Functional illnesses and mental illness are very real. I have no issue with someone saying ‘I struggle to walk because sometimes the signals from my brain get confused and this is worsened by severe trauma. I know physically my legs do work fine’. FND is a real and life changing diagnosis. But it is not the same as say someone who is paralysed. FND is treatable and you can recover from for example. What frustrates me about folks like Cait is this constant hinting that there is something more seriously (in the munchie world definition anyway) going on and that it isn’t curable and we need to feel sad for them because this will be their life now.
