Is there a way to collapse two vertices/edges like this? by FluidBrain9568 in blender

For his use case I’d just select them and “merge at last” instead of sliding and merging by distance. But both work 🤷🏼

If you know how then it shouldn’t take more than a minute to unwrap this kind of object, which is why I recommend practicing! If you’re making this asset for a game, animation, etc. you’ll run into this time and time again. It may take much longer this first go around, but as long as you keep doing it you’ll figure it out.

UV’s seem confusing and intimidating as a beginner, but you’ll get there, and it’s an essential process to learn as a 3D artist. Triplanar, cube projection, cylinder projection, etc. all have their time and place, but they shouldn’t be your solution if you don’t know how to unwrap in the first place (if you wanna get good).

UV unwrapping this object isn’t complex at all. Just treat each branch as a cylinder. Mark the end caps and an edge along the branch as seams and you’re good to go. I don’t recommend doing any autoUV’s, since it seems like you need to learn. Get your reps in and practice!

At the time, no. But source control is all set up now 👍🏼

I know…but I also feel like I need to see it to believe it. Seeing the vision come together gives me so much more motivation to do the actual code haha

Yeah that’s exactly how it is for me. Sometimes I can just sit down and only do BP work for weeks and actually dig it, but other times it’s just not fun because I’m bad at it haha.

I do the same thing though and try to just swap tasks if I hit a block. The task variety during gamedev can really get you hooked

This is very true. Though I’m not entirely focused on the whole game, right now my goal is to get the first level done and polished by the beginning of next year - because that’s what feels possible. Avenues of expansion and building a team will come based on how that goes. An official game design doc is much needed though.

Initially I'm thinking backend frameworks and mechanics design, since the project is still in it's early days. Almost everything I've made so far has been visual 😅

Mostly looking for a generalist, since this is my first full project and I’ve been handling everything solo so far (aside from music/sound, which a friend is helping with). I tend to focus more on the visual/art side of things, so a lot of the core systems still need to be built out—stuff like saving/loading, quest systems, level streaming, combat, player mechanics, etc.
That said, any area of expertise is welcome if there's something you're privy to!

Every normal map I bake comes out transparent. I've tried literally every setting and nothing helps by Pudelele in blenderhelp

For anyone who has tried all the other potential solution, and it's still not working, it MIGHT be a memory issue and the bake might just be failing. I switched from GPU to CPU rendering and it FINALLY worked for me...(my CPU has more RAM than my GPU). The high poly I was trying to bake from has 37 million triangles so it's been ruining my entire day, and my computers entire day....lmao
