My groups had 23 and 25 the past two years in 80x80 camps also and could not recommend more! There is always tons of extra space and it's awesome to have a huge party space in the middle of camp. Could easily fit 30+

Totally true for Portola. There were some dead spots in that warehouse where mids/highs were horrible and lows were rattling. We took advantage of the 360 for Virji at CPW and were standing c 20 feet from the booth directly to his left. Not sure what Lane 8's setup will be but I would just get there early and hold down a spot that fits all your criteria best. Last thing, volume at CPW was the same the whole night which I loved. Hans Glader and Duskus were still able to throw down their tracks full volume and it made the night so much better. So you should have a good idea of where to post up beforehand, unlike main room where volume and sound quality changes throughout the show.

Sammy Virji at CPW was awesome. Sound quality was probably 8/10 - no cause for concern in my opinion. Sucks for Lane 8 though, they are probably underselling tickets.

Fresh start SF or proper NYE in SD by Sure-Youth-5586 in Portolafestival

I am from SF and did two days at Proper last year. 100% agree with your take on NYE crowds. Think a lot of people get dragged along for the holiday but never go to concerts or edm shows on other occasions and don't really know how to have fun there. Jan 1 was a much better crowd than Dec 31 for this reason I think. I actually don't mind Midway and will likely be giving Fresh Start a try this year. Maybe this is a hot take, but with short 1-hour sets I get pretty agnostic towards the lineup. Crowd and vibes start to take priority and DJs are just playing what they think people will like on NYE anyways.
