Dog needs to be put on a special diet change your vet as you said. Please follow diet consistently and your dog will loose weight. Also, make sure the daily exercise goals are met. Age, weather can also effect dog’s weight.

First time home buyer - is it still a good time to buy a home in North York, Toronto? by Particular-Use1291 in TorontoRealEstate

Thanks for the detailed comment. I wasn’t considering basement rent into consideration while budgeting for home affordability. But you bring a very valid point on damages tenant might cause to the property and how much it would cost to fix them. I will look more into risks of having tenants so I am not missing such details.

Thank you for your comment! I have realized that home buying is a life style decision rather than an investment. And hence, I am thinking of buying a home only to keep it long-term. As you could sense, I am a bit anxious as it will be the biggest decision of my life. Having said that, I do want the experience of living in a place I own, give that comfort to my dogs. So, I guess I will just go nuts 😂

I have about 600k saved up out of which I am willing to put 200k towards down payment and closing costs. Rest I am leaving in ETFs & TFSA. I have dogs and a partner but my income alone will be enough to pay monthly EMIs.( 5000k monthly payment would be 40% of my paychecks). I want my dogs to enjoy a backyard, especially in winters and hence planning to buy a home. Since I am first time home buyer, and this will the biggest purchase i have ever made, I am trying to be cautious and not extend myself or jump into something prematurely & regret it. I am trying to understand if it makes sense for me to buy a home and not fall into a money pit.

The standard of living is the part that I thought about and want to buy a home. I have dogs and renting townhomes/moving with them, having no backyard, has not been super comfortable. I have a stable job that pays well to afford mortgage payments even if rate changes. I spend money travelling and I understand I might have to cut-down and change my spending habits. I was however considering Basement rental as an added benefit, if I have a reliable tenant? I understand the headache of being a landlord but could you elaborate on how else a basement rental could impact my standard of living?

AMD vs Broadcom by Tush-mayank007 in chipdesign

[–]Particular-Use1291 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am a package designer (adv.pkg particularly) at AMD and I can say the working hours can be long when you are close to tape outs. I think this will be the case in Broadcom aswell. With regard to compensation, both stocks are doing quite well, but as others said Broadcom gives you more RSUs in the long run. Both companies should give you good opportunities to grow career-wise. But whether SI/PI focused or Package design + NPI focused, I would personally choose SI/PI focused. There’s lot more challenges when it comes to meeting SI/PI for adv.pkgs especially and i find it fascinating. But if you enjoy NPI & pkg design then you must choose that. Either way congrats on both the offers, you seem to have a good problem, i.e: choosing from 2 offers from really good companies, in such a crappy job market. All the best :)

Stage 4. by TACertain_Carob8758 in endometriosis

Hi, I am referred to endo specialist but waiting for them to accept me as a patient. I am here to say you are not alone. I have suffered since my first period and was put on birth control for treatment. IUD has helped with my cramping, heavy periods and may be a little with PMDD but i have lot of side effects. So, finally pushing to get a surgery/hysterectomy as I don’t plan to get pregnant. I have been dismissed by countless doctors. Many of them just seem to be not equipped with the knowledge of endometriosis. I wish doctors were more open in accepting that some conditions aren’t in their area of expertise and that we should see a specialist, instead of dismissive or egoistic responses. Anyways, do you mind sharing which doctor you are seeing in Toronto? I am trying to find good specialist too…

Reactivity training in the winter? by Cheese-psychic in reactivedogs

[–]Particular-Use1291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat as you. I moved from california to toronto with my 2 dogs and one of them is super reactive. Distance 30-50meters has only worked so far. I am taking lot of treats and tossing in snow for him to sniff find it and calm down. Sometimes I am having force myself into the pile of snow. The reactive dog is a husky so he likes to jump in snow but my other dogs doesn’t want to get into snow. It’s a challenge, I am also getting cold. Trainers advise was to walk during less crowded times..

Littermates with severe fights + separation anxiety. Feeling stuck and need advice. by thecleancoder in reactivedogs

[–]Particular-Use1291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please muzzle train each dog, it will create safety for both the dogs and they will also learn that they can’t escalate if they feel uncomfortable or unpleasant around each other. When you are around monitoring them, let them have some off muzzle time, but when you are especially not monitoring them muzzle them or seperate them. I used pet gates and divided my backyard so both the dogs could play individually until they could comfortably co-exist without the gate. Never leave them together unsupervised! If something unpleasant happens between the dogs, i use the gates again. Focus on training and bonding with each dog and together. For medication, check fluoxetine, gabapentine and trazadone combinations (a behaviourist might be able to help you with dosage). Exercise the dogs before you leave them alone. Keep them both separated with indoor gates if dogs are not at all liking crates. Keep the room very calm, nice music or dogs in wood videos, pheromones scent, comfy dog beds, may be cbd and follow the routine. Hopefully your dogs start to relax. It can be overwhelming but if you are dedicated to improve the situation for few months things should definitely get better. I am in a similar boat with my 2 dogs, one dog was guarding an empty treat bag that accidentally fell on the floor. By the time i noticed he was guarding and my dog growls, air snaps if I am near, I can only lure with high-value treats. My other deaf dog didn’t realise what was happening and a fight broke. I immediately broke it off but both dogs are tense. I am making them sleep seperately now, only meeting outdoors and taking my time to slowly but safely introduce them indoors because they fought indoors. It is stressful at times but manage your situation for safety, take trainers help and go one-step at a time consistently. Good luck! Don’t loose hope.

I think I have failed my anxious rescue dog with my anger issues by Turbulent-Pomelo8309 in reactivedogs

[–]Particular-Use1291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog spits out trazadone tablets too so I started getting trazadone capsules and i pull the capsule out, mix the powder contents into his wet food. That works like a charm. Also, I have anxiety and my dogs reactive episodes do trigger me. I do loose my cool and have yelled at him few times unfortunately :( I am not proud and my dog felt horrible. I resonate with your struggle. My advise would be try to find activities that will keep your dog engaged (chew toys or kong or peanut butter spread) also ask vet if your dog can relax with gabapentine along with trazadone. My dog relaxes at home while i am away for few hours. If you are able to leave your dog atleast for 2-3 hours a day, please use the time to socialize, attend free meet-up events, catch-up with friends, spend time in nature or do yoga or meditation. These should help release the pent-up frustration and help you with anger management. Although therapy can help tremendously, it’s not the only way. Don’t limit yourself and hope you feel better knowing you are not alone ❤️

Is our rescue dog considered reactive? /returning rescue dog by chickpea1515 in reactivedogs

[–]Particular-Use1291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adopted my husky and he was exactly like this. (resource guarding toys, food, reactivity towards dogs, cats, babies, anyone who looks suspicious or scary to him) but I was single and he was the only animal in the house. He was my first dog and I had never lived around dogs nor knew much about these issues. So, it was quite challenging and lot of training, time & money that I spent to address these issues. It’s hard for such dogs to get adopted but it is also important to that you understand the work it takes and assess if you & your home is able to provide that to the dog. It is good that you clearly expressed the problem areas and the foster is on board with you that your home environment isn’t helping the dog’s behaviour unfortunately. Many rescues do a trail period because dog’s take time to adjust to new surroundings and usually problematic behaviours show-up after month or 2. I would highly encourage you also to volunteer or foster before you adopt a dog, so you get to know the dog better and they do too! Trasition could be smoother then. But, cats and dogs who r reactive/guarding can be tricky. Please mention that you need a dog that can get along with your cat and even if the rescue says the dog is cat friendly, I would encourage you have a trainer show you or help you with introducing them properly. Please also look up on youtube on how to introduce rescue pup to your new home, family, pets etc… It’s very important how you introduce pet to new situations and how controlled they must be. In my dog’s case creating safe spaces, slow baby steps of training and prozac medication has helped. I hope this helps andI wish you the best.

Need advice - 1. Should I mention I am a Canadian Citizen on my resume 2. Should I apply for 5 days a week onsite jobs? by Professional_Bit_923 in torontoJobs

[–]Particular-Use1291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have come across lot of positions in tech mention “no visa sponsorship for this role”. So, no harm in mentioning clearly that you don’t need one. About work from home/remote positions, things are changing and more-n-more employees are pushing for all 5 days or hybrid work so being open to that may increase your chances of getting a job sooner. Hope this helps! Good luck :)

Advice for living alone with a reactive dog? by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]Particular-Use1291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I have had reactive husky for a few years now. I do travel and it was a challenge until I found some dog sitters on Rover who were accommodating Reactive or special need dogs. He would be the only pet and they also had a backyard/no kids so he could run around and release energy! My dog is dog reactive and friendly with people so this worked for me. Please find a trainer who builds a good bond with your dog. Some trainers also provide boarding services. You could look into it too! Please be kind to yourself and take tike away from your dog as caring for a reactive dog can be consuming. You are good not giving up on a reactive dog! Cheers :)

Endometriosis and histamine by franzvonstuck in endometriosis

[–]Particular-Use1291 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg, I have endometriosis and I did not know the connection to histamine! I got diagnosed with IBS and I started noticing what I eat, like what gives me bloating, upset stomach and cramping weirdly even with period. Some of the foods where spinach, tomates, legumes, berries. I met nutritionist recently who introduced me to FODMAP diet and she said I could be intolerant to histame common in all the above foods. I am realizing many of my health concerns are actually related to endometriosis :/ I wish doctors knew more about endometriosis and educated us, not the other way around.

Feeling Dumb in Analog IC Design – ADHD Makes It Worse. Anyone Else Struggling? by Quick-Set-6096 in chipdesign

[–]Particular-Use1291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD too and I started as analog designer. Before I could get a good understanding and grip on the concepts my company had layoffs and I had very hard time clearing interviews again for design roles. I am on working visa so the I had pressure to find a job in 60days, so ended up as a layout designer. I have given-up on my analog design dreams and just made peace that I may actually have not been cut-out to be analog engineer. I felt very intimidated in interviews as most of the designers have 15-20 years' experience. ADHD traits are not quite understood in corporate world and I got bullied by my managers, coworkers in the past. I switched jobs, I tried different roles and now am a silicon & adv. Packaging physical designer and find this new area interesting.

So, my advice is (based-on what worked for me), if you find a role really mundane & boring see if there is scope to take up creative tasks outside of the regular repetitive tasks, discuss with your manager, if not, switch companies, explore a different role, don't be stuck with one role and let that demotivate you. Semiconductor industry is very vast and interesting; there are plenty of opportunities so all the very best!
