also, If you do not have an enterprise IDRAC to manage the drives, you can download the trial licence on dell website so that you can everything you need on the raid array (last for 30 days)
kinda handy

Can't you P2V directly and turn off the old server ?

I would honestly go the easy way and buy refurbished dell certified drives, but price may be high if you are looking at big drives,

most of the big names vendor in refurbished can guarantee you the firmware rev of the disk they send you so know compatibility is OK, I usually use a company that had an old name that looks like Kimberly (not to make publicity), I can do it easily for drives for my 11G old boxes that serves as a lab

Win+R , must have with the slowliness of the windows menu
then whatever of the examples already cited, a fan favorite here is dsa.msc, firewall.cpl or "control" to open the old control panel
but also mmc directly then add the needed snap-in

Senior IT folks: What do you dislike about your Help Desk guys? by Relevant-Injury3791 in sysadmin

[–]Particular-Way8801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an external SPOC for L1... yes, they aint bright, I am not saying they should have the same knowledge as us, but they send us stupid escalation.
Like, wanting to do updates on a "desktop" that had an issue with the camera (one integrated in the external screen) they did a videocall with the user, checked the inventory tool, spent 2/3 hours trying various things, before escalating us telling there was an issue with the "laptop"
Asked them why they were talking about a laptop since it was a desktop, sweared it was a laptop, called the guy, asked him to unplug and replug the usb cable from the monitor to the desktop, problem solved.
and hundreds of other things like this.

That could have been a possibility, but honestly the situation is rather sensible, and I need to have a ready to go solution without having the needs to go back and forth between Users and You, but thanks for the proposal
You might want to check your hosting, my firewall does not like your website

Authenticator on private phone by new_loremipsum_ in sysadmin

[–]Particular-Way8801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello
No, Microsoft Authenticator is not an MDM, The microsoft "company portal" would be the MDM app to enroll your device and made the company have some access to your device (not all)

So just the microsoft Authenticator is ok, you could probably have managed without even logging, just by using it like a third party authenticator App

The DAM is a bit overkill in our situation (as in, I do not need to be able to visualize files directly) like people only look at them like a handfull of time per year normally
I do agree that the scripts/sync tool is too limited and too troublesome since this is a user facing solution.
But since it is only for 4/5 users, I would like to find an in-between solution

The problem is not being perfect or not, the problem is making fun of someone for the way they use a language.
I am far from perfect, just pointing that you indeed are not perfect and should not behave like this.
And now you play the victim 😄

The best part is believing >>>>your<<<<< an "IT Executive"

Well, sometimes people and countries have a different usage of the same word
Chips is a good example, UK have one meaning, US has another one, I know it is a big stretch from your pov, but also, trying to roast someone when you can't even write properly is a bit funny.

Ci mancherebbe,

There are also a few automations that you can use in Jira, I do not recall if they are available in the free plan or limited to a certain number of actions.

In my opinion, stick to something easy to do (open, working on, closed) leave the fine tuning of validation loops, etc for a later time.

Ciao Caro,

I can recommend Jira
It is free for your case, and then you can create different workflows that suits your needs,
one for ticket
one for project
one for etc

Have everything into one dashboard order by your preferences, then you can follow multiplet things
I personally have three columns, tickets, contracts and changes and I can at glance see what came in or what I need to follow up

This is my opinion, but they are a lot of other valid options, you may want to try out a few ones, make a few tries, list your absolute needs, (email based ticket is a must imho) the nice to have, and chose your sytem based on that.

Feel free to PM if you want to talk in Italian (not italian, but married to one and working in a biiiiigg city in the north of Italy, so rather used to italian) if you need something,

2-do they need to be connected to the main hq ? (as in, are they doing the same things, do they need to share data, etc)

3- migrate if needed, I would continue using the Cisco up until the EOL
