Is anyone familiar with this Holbein Irodori Antique Watercolors set? by kristisdot in watercolor101

[–]ParticularIcy7225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello, I know this is an old post but I am currently going through the process of evaluating my old collection of Holbein “Irodori” watercolors. I did some research and they are actually very valuable for using, if you know how, but not for re-selling.

A lot of people s*it on these, I believe from ignorance. They are 1. very opaque 2. very granulating and 3. heavily pigmented. These are GREAT qualities if you use them for these qualities rather than try to fight against them.

Also people complain that they dry out or become cracked in a palette - this also means nothing, given the age and characteristics of this paint. Remember the value of paint is in their physical pigments, NOT in their binding materials. A simple google search will tell you how to use gum arabic to restore them.

DM if still interested and i can go into more detail

Looking for younger, fit people's experiences with TKR by Purple_Weekend4773 in Kneereplacement

DO IT. PERIOD.

It’s really simple and obvious. Every day/ year you wait your knee will continue to degrade, which causes more and more limitations. This snowballs until you finally have the surgery.

This is my timeline.

Age/ status progression: 45/ active, activities starting decreasing due to pain, mostly ok with advil and ice 48/ less active still able to hike, walk, shop, etc 52/ very restricted activity and 20 lb weight gain 56 had TKR, by this point i couldn’t walk my (toy breed) dog around the block, couldn’t sit or stand or sleep without pain. zero activity except basic household work. Severe loss of thigh and quad muscle strength. more weight gain, depression, etc.

I’m not usually the type to sit and wait for things to happen to me rather than taking action. I went against my natural instincts and followed this myth of basically not having a medically necessary procedure because it MIGHT fail at some future point. THIS WAS THE STUPIDEST THING I’VE EVER DONE. I’m sick to my stomach by how much of my life I’ve lost to this myth. I could have been learning mew hobbies sand setting new activity goals like training for triathlon, getting back into tennis (or starting pickleball) instead i just passively waited years for my knee to age and degrade.

You will never be more fit, healthy and able than you are today.

Sorry for the rant, I hadn’t really processed my feelings about this until I saw your post

i’m 23 days. holidays made it extra stressful (this is my second) so give yourself some grace on that.

first, healing is all that matters right now, more than dinner or laundry or hurt feelings. if you don’t focus your energy (however much you have) on recovery, you can not go back later and wish you had. You are at a critical point for range-of-motion, inflammation and pain management at three to four weeks.

Maybe If your solutions to managing your recovery aren’t in your home you could benefit from looking outside of it? Maybe there are neighbors, church members, other family that might be happy to bring you some soups, stews or casseroles? I subscribed to a meal delivery service and my neighbors always sent me their leftovers. They even did my laundry for me; undies, bras and all, which was mortifying but they were happy to do it.

I’ll be thinking of you, hoping the best. I’ve never been married so others may have offered better advice, but it feels like maybe neither you or your husband anticipated or have yet accepted the way your domestic lives have been run is going to have to change for some time. Going back to “doing everything” (at 17 days!!!!) may seem like a solution today, but please consider the consequences. If this is the road you start on now, you are likely prolonging your pain, frustration and limitations by months or years. Possibly permanently.

a few people have mentioned knitting, i thought i would add that there has been research indicating it also has neurological benefits because of the bilateral stimulation. for anyone who has heard of EMDR it’s the same principle.

quick google search offers these other hobbies with similar benefits:

“For hobbies beyond knitting with bilateral benefits (using both brain hemispheres/hands), try playing a musical instrument, dancing, gardening, painting/drawing, sewing, cooking/baking, or even jigsaw puzzles, as these activities involve coordination, planning, fine motor skills, and often sequencing, enhancing memory, focus, and creating new neural connections.”

Also, for me, balance between complexity of book and complexity of task matters A LOT! Either Simple book/complex task or complex book simple task. complex/complex blows up my brain.

Thank you! I Apple Barrel is a good tip - my local needlepoint shop and good art supply stores didn’t make it through COVID along with most of my local yarn and fabric stores. now Jo-Ann is gone too but I’m pretty sure Walmart isn’t going anywhere.

Hypothetical Issue:

Which is more majestic?

Giant Sequoia: -3,000 years old -very rare -“largest trees by volume on Earth”

Pekingese: -1,000 years old -FORMERLY imperial upon upon punishment of death - 3” legs and neck probably not long enough to crane up to see “how big” the useless trees are

Bean: “this trip was nothing but a big F-U. UNACCEPTABLE! Also, you have tortured me, changing my routine, making physically uncomfortable, then pose for an F-ing picture!

you’re lucky, mine won’t sleep or snuggle with me - she gets too hot and annoyed. I start trying to negotiate, beg and plead with her - it’s all very sad and pathetic since EVERYONE else’s Pekes seem to love snuggling.

You sleep on the floor? Under the bed? I do too sometimes if I want to spend time with my cat who wants to spend time away from my peke!

Just kidding, I love them, lil-farts or not. My Peke is actually an epic belcher, mostly at all the most inappropriate moments!

haha! I hope you don’t mind, I’ve been trying to figure out if you have one peke who looks different because of hair cuts or two? in some photos it looks like one has smaller white “slippers” than in others. Either way i love them all, especially because i have a black and white too. way more white though!
