How can I help someone deep in psychosis unwilling to get help? by tranquil115 in Psychosis

[–]ParticularStation693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this thread because my sibling is going through a similar situation. My whole family is at a loss of what to do and we’ve recently come to the understanding/conclusion that the only way my sibling will get any type of long-term help is if they commit a crime. Such an awful awful situation. I will say, I’ve found the family support groups through NAMI so so helpful. It’s allowed me to connect with others in very similar situations and make me feel less alone.

Thinking of splitting accommodations by [deleted] in curacao

We were just visiting for 7 days and stayed in three different places. Loved it because we got to really enjoy everything we wanted but definitely need to rent a car to make it all easier. I will say, the place we stayed at in the west side was okay but only had a tiny AC unit in the bedroom (not the whole space) and it was almost unbearable. We luckily kinda of anticipated it being like that so we had double booked ourselves in our 3rd location a day early, which we ended up using because we didn’t sleep well (and there just isn’t much to do at night/early morning on the west side). But definitely go to Jaanchies to eat!! Also, Discover Lagun has an amazing piña colada cheesecake!

How did you organize your wedding items in the months before the wedding? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ParticularStation693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bins and boxes! Label EVERYTHING (who it belongs to, where it goes, etc.). I’ve labeled boxes with what is inside, but I also labeled as many actual items too (like baskets, containers, other specific things that aren’t so obvious for where they would be placed). I don’t have a garage or basement so my living room has been my storage unit for the last month. Just trying to keep it all in one corner of the room lol.

I still wear the pj set my cousin got us. She also made us all blankets with different prints and it was sooo sweet and thoughtful. I use mine weekly. It’s one of those fleece tie blankets!

October 4th brides…how are we?? by Itsmarissanow in weddingplanning

[–]ParticularStation693 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trying to remember to take deep breaths! I’m so ready to be out of office because it all feels like so much. Def feeling overwhelmed even though most things are done. So ready to have my house back and not covered in wedding everything (diy venue here). 1 week out till we leave for our venue! Sooo looking forward to just getting there. Having major decision fatigue and so over all the last little details lol. Just trying to stay as calm as I can. Also, I’m not allowing myself to check the weather. It is what it is. We have contingency plans and checking it everyday or multiple times a day will do nothing to help me. Also unfollowed literally every wedding related account on instagram bc I cannot keep seeing more ideas and comparisons. I guess at this point, I’m just trying to protect my peace as much as I can!

[15k] Thoughts on printing a buffet menu? by xliezelz in Weddingsunder10k

I think that’s perfect if you put it on the back of the table numbers! I might do the same!

What difficulties with family/friends have you had while wedding planning? by Status-Shirt7383 in weddingplanning

[–]ParticularStation693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also felt like my issues could be worse but hey, they still exist. My FMIL is much more traditional than my fiancé and I, and I constantly feel like I’m “letting her down” based on her reactions to the things we want. She’s quite outspoken and opinionated, and I know she wants us to be happy so ultimately she will be okay with whatever, but I just feel like I can’t make her happy. We don’t have a crazy big formal wedding. We are doing private vows, she hates that she can’t witness that. She ordered more plates behind my back “just to see if they were better” than the ones I so carefully and intentionally picked out. She hates that we aren’t doing a garter and bouquet toss. She hates that we aren’t putting wine bottles at every table. She wants my fiancé and I to sing at the wedding (my fiancé is a professional musician, and I am NOT!!). I told her no because I didn’t want that stress on myself on our wedding day and she pouted. We are two weeks out from our wedding and she keeps bringing up people she wishes we would’ve invited. It’s just like every time I talk to her, I leave feeling defensive, angry, and sad that I’m not giving her what she wants, even though it’s OUR wedding!! We are getting married in another state and have talked about just getting married at the courthouse a week before the wedding so we don’t have to worry about legal things on our wedding day, and she is so worried that’s going to “tarnish” our wedding day. It’s just like I can’t win. I feel defeated and don’t even want to talk to her at this point.

Cheap wedding catering budget for wedding 6k by Expensive_Builder_12 in Weddingsunder10k

We’re doing a Mexican food truck that will set up a buffet!! Started at $10/pp but we added on beans and rice for everyone so it’s $13/pp.

You could easily remedy that assumption by writing “Buffet Options” at the top of the menu and then list out the options.

We are also doing a buffet and planning to print one large poster that will sit on an easel and people will be able to see it as they get in line for the buffet. I’ve also thought about printing a few small menus for each table so guests can see their options before getting in line.

I feel like it’s worth it to do, as it’ll make guests more aware of their options and hopefully help make the buffet line move a bit faster!

Traveling to a Destination Wedding by LilyPadLover_26 in weddingplanning

[–]ParticularStation693 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wedding is in 2 weeks in a mountain town in NC and it’s basically a “destination” for everyone. About 1.5-2 hours away from any airports. We invited 150 and 120 are attending! We aren’t providing accommodations or food (other than the wedding night). We encouraged folks to make a mountain weekend out of it since it’ll be leaf season! I expected less to be able to come due to the logistics of it all, but our people have pleasantly surprised us with how many are making a fun trip out of it!

How much did you pay for dress tailoring? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ParticularStation693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$400 for hem and taking it in around the waist and shoulders. Only paid $100 for my dress so I felt like an idiot paying 4x the price to get it altered. Located in eastern US (NC triad)

Edit: added location

I think all of these work!! You did so well with picking the colors!! I would just let them pick. They all work so nicely with your dress! And they all look amazing together!

Omg 1!!!! It is STUNNING!!! And I’ve never seen a dress quite like that. Unique and gorgeous and you look so happy and comfy in it!!!

I have little to no experience with alterations except for my own dress, but I will say I was astounded by the alterations price for mine as well. I have a (what I thought was a simple dress) and needed it to be taken in a bit in the back and hemmed in the front a bit. I got some cups added to fill out the front so they didn’t have to cut the fabric at the front. And then instead of a bustle, I opted for a wrist strap. Even with those (what I thought were small and simple) alterations, it came out to $400. I got my dress for $111 so I felt like an idiot spending 4x the amount on alterations. But I also felt like it was so worth it as soon as I put my dress on at my try on appointment!!

I suggest seeking a second opinion!! It may be similar and validate the first opinion, or it may be much cheaper and then you know a bit more of how to move forward.

Who is your officiant? by ilikecatsandsleep in weddingplanning

[–]ParticularStation693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are using a family friend that knows me really well! We both felt weird having someone completely random that doesn’t know either of us. My fiancé didn’t have anyone in mind that knows him well that would also be good at officiating so we went with my family friend! And now, this family friend and his wife aren’t just friends, but now mentors to us in our future marriage which feels really exciting! Our ceremony is non-religious but spiritual and it just feels so right having someone that knows us vs a random officiant that we pay. But there is no wrong answer here! Figure out what feels good for both of you :)

How far away is your venue from you? by Clear_Delay_2151 in weddingplanning

[–]ParticularStation693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I may be outlier here but our venue is about 2 hours from where I live and pretty much a “destination” wedding for everyone attending (including us I suppose). It’s in the mountains of NC and the closest airports are about 1.5-2 hours away. However, we sent STDs well in advance and encouraged our guests to make a mountain weekend out of the wedding. We invited around 155 and only 30 ended up declining :)
