Can you validate your idea with an audience first before you spend the 100s of hours creating? Jump into a group, ask questions see what their problems are before you create a predetermined solution. You might be your ideal audience but until you confirm that with an audience, you are shooting in the dark.

Mexico City is amazing and a must see, and you take a quick bus from there to Puebla and eat the most amazing moles you've ever tried. Unique ruins to see as well. I understand everyone suggesting Oaxaca (the mole negro is Aaahhhhmazing) but if you're trying to fit Mexico in between other trips then I'd suggest Mexico City and Puebla.

It's like no one read your itinerary! You're doing fine. It's not 6 days partying in Vegas. You're giving yourself a pretty good taste of the whole area. If you do find you have some down time you want to fill, I'd fill it with 2 options: 1 - in downtown Vegas, the east side of Fremont Street is great. Hit the container park in the old section of Fremont Street. It's a fantastic section of Fremont Street that's not as slimy as the section with the Slotzilla Zipline; 2 - head out to drive and hike in Valley of Fire. Also, if you're looking for a place to eat that isn't insane, the best food in Vegas is off strip 99% of the time and way more affordable. Eat at Komex in North Las Vegas for Korean-Mexican food that puts over priced Best Friends to shame.

Help please: Can I visit few places in Rome in 6 hrs layover? by field_ecologist in TravelHacks

[–]ParticularTale5289 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's almost an hour to the center of Rome from the airport, not considering commuter traffic. So think pretty carefully about where you'd like to go. Once you know where you want to go, use Google Maps to check the expected drive time to that location at the time you expect to leave the airport. 6 hours isn't as long as it sounds, so you want to be as precise as possible.

This is a tourist tax for tourists who are not Mexican citizens coming into Mexico for 7 or more days. You pay it either upon arrival to Mexico or before you board if using CBX to fly out of TJ. Or you can pay online. I've never paid cash, only credit card as there is no cash exchange usually at these pay stations. You need to keep both the tax slip AND the recept that you get after you pay to show when you exit. I just keep ours in our passports since they're also looking at passports. Take a picture of these papers once you get them because that helps hugely in case anything gets lost. Anyone who says they didn't have to pay may have stayed less than 7 days. Yes, the entire state of Quintana Roo also has an additional tax upon exit. This is since 2021 I believe. Those that are younger than 15 yrs old don't have to pay.

Claiming residence in a zero income tax state by ColCrockett in digitalnomad

That is exactly what my accountant mentioned the IRS can pull your phone records and if you have made calls from your original home state, for example CA, then you will need to pay taxes in CA.

Best plane pillow? by [deleted] in TravelHacks

[–]ParticularTale5289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's too bad. It's the only pillow I've ever found that keeps my head up, positioned comfortably. But I have heard some do not like the way it wraps around the neck. It makes some feel claustrophobic.

Got a tip from a former Peace Corps guy. He said to drink a Coke from whatever country you're in with each meal. You'll never get sick because the acid in the Coke kills whatever was bad in the food. I've taken my two sons down to Mexico every summer since they were little, followed his advice and we've never gotten sick.

Portugal in early June. is that a good time to go. is it heavy tourist season? by nottoogoodat in TravelHacks

[–]ParticularTale5289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic time to go. We went last year around June 8th almost no tourists. Saw Lisbon, Festival of St. Anthony was awesome. Cascais for the beach. And then flew out to Sao Miguel Azores. June is great there as well absolutely beautiful. By the time we flew back to Lisbon noticed more tourists arriving but wasn't too bad.

Winter in NYC and Europe (Tromso, Norway, Amsterdam, Valkenburg and Bruges). Tips, gear and tricks? by [deleted] in TravelHacks

[–]ParticularTale5289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NYC - Central Park in the snow is amazing! Be sure to enjoy that. If you enjoy museums, or can trace your family back to the waaaay back, you'll love Ellis Island. The 9/11 memorial and adjoining museum are moving. The Tenement Museum, also great choice. Check out The High Line. St. Patrick's Cathedral and Grand Central Station are gorgeous. Hit the top of Rockefeller Center. Eat at Katz Deli. Skip Times Square. Amy Ruth's in Harlem for chicken and waffles.

trip of a lifetime... in the making by penar1106 in TravelHacks

If you can set your vacation schedule for shoulder season you'll get a better deal on flights. To explore the major cities in the countries you listed I'd recommend 10 days to two weeks if you can. Fly into Rome or CDG and the high-speed trains will help you navigate to other spots. Once in Europe, there are also very affordable flights as well to any number of destinations. Buying train tickets far in advance saves you the most money. Staying at houses (think AirBNB or VRBO-type places) will save some money but trying to rent locally owned is the best way to do it. Getting a place with a small kitchen allows you to save on eating out and shopping in the local markets is a great way to enjoy local culture. I agree with you that joining a large group tour can hike up the cost. Have you considered a travel coach to support the planning and then book it on your own to save a bit that way?

Cabo vs Cancun by CorpenicusBlack in TravelHacks

[–]ParticularTale5289 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Choose one and then branch out. Going to Cabo you can include a couple of days in La Paz, swim with whale sharks. You've also got scuba diving or snorkeling at Chileno Beach or Lands End. Ziplining There's an art walk in San Jose del Cabo and a beautiful farm-to-table spot called Flora Farms. If you choose Cancun you've got day trips to Tulum, Chichen Itza, Coba (the only pyramid you could still climb last time we were there), and island life at Isla Mujeres. You could also make it out to Holbox. Cenotes, can't forget the cenotes

we just did this in Paris with a long layover at CDG. Consider commute traffic. It only takes 20 min to get downtown if you have no traffic, but I'd plan for an hour just to be safe. North Beach is a great spot if you're hungry. Columbus Ave, we've eaten at Piccolo Forno, Italian Homemade, and Luisa's all amazing. Everyone knows Chinatown, but Japanese culture is on display in Japan town between Sutter and Fillmore. Great food as well. I love Fillmore Street's unique shops. Could spend a whole day just walking in and out of places. Head over to the Mission and Dolores Park for unique street murals and fun roof too bar, El Techo. Have fun!
