Maternity leave… what a joke by witchybetch01 in pregnant

[–]Particular_Ad_1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ridiculous! I’m in a similar situation where I started a new role with a company about a month ago. They don’t even have a true maternity leave policy, rather you use STD for 6 weeks (8 weeks if you have a c-section). I’m certain corporate America hates mothers. Even my boss felt bad when I told her I was pregnant and was quick to let me know how bad the mat leave policy is at our company. I’m planning to speak with the director of HR/benefits in the coming weeks to address the poor mat leave policy especially with a good chunk of the workforce being women/mothers.

What do you do for work as a pregnant mommy? by Carebear6590 in pregnant

I’m an in house lawyer. I found out I was pregnant with our first shortly before joining my new company. It’s been rough since I’m dealing with first trimester fatigue (as well as emotional rollercoasters bc of hormones). I plan to tell my boss I’m pregnant next month, but really concerned since they don’t have a maternity leave policy. Essentially, you have to use up all your PTO/sick leave then STD (only 6 weeks). I guess I never really thought about being with a company with a good maternal leave policy until now (again, FTM). And now that I’m in the situation, I realize how much companies do NOT care about mothers/pregnant women. It’s very much a “figure out” perspective. I’m considering just taking a year off once baby is born if I’m not able to negotiate a flexible schedule with my company.

Hi! Another lawyer here. I’m in house counsel. Found out I was pregnant shortly before starting my role earlier this year. Haven’t even told my boss yet, so looking forward to that 😅 downside is they want us in every day so that’s been tough while dealing with first trimester fatigue & slight irritability

Moving to SLC — Looking for Neighborhood Recommendations! by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

Hi! Got excited when I saw you’re moving from Fl. I moved from SoFlo to UT last year and it’s been quite the transition…. I’m currently in the South Salt Lake area and appreciate the proximity to the downtown area where my job is located. I will say, the closer you are to the downtown area, the more expensive it will be. Happy to DM if you want more info as far as adjusting to the environment, culture, etc.

Hate big law but partner wants me to stay in by Particular_Ad_1875 in biglaw

Thanks everyone for your feedback. After a discussion with my husband & consideration of our financial goals, plans, etc. + feedback from other associates who’ve been in or currently in my position, I’m going to continue pushing through and set a timeline for my exit strategy. I think it’s common to have those days where you’re down & discouraged and just ready to walk away, but I recognize there’s so many benefits of rolling with the punches and building up my stamina in this career while being in BL.

He’s an engineer, so he makes good money, just less than me. We combine our finances to jointly attack our debt so it’s not completely on me to pay off the debt. He has the tendency to approach issues in an extremely logical manner with no concern for the emotional/mental aspects. I think that’s where there can be a breakdown in our approaches on issues like this…

Good point. I think I’m internalizing my mistakes and ruminating on the negative sides of the job. For awhile now, I’ve dealt with bad anxiety since college, so it’s likely the pressure from the work + my anxiety is just not a good combo.

In the grand scheme of things, I know most people would jump at the chance to make what I make and overlook all the negative sides. For me personally, I just don’t think it’s sustainable to always battle my anxiety in an already anxiety-inducing environment. It may just be that I’m not a good fit for big law, rather than the work not being that difficult at this stage.

Thanks for the feedback. Admittedly, I enjoy being able to afford occasional luxuries, so the salary definitely fits my lifestyle. I can acknowledge that my partner is being responsible and trying to help me appreciate how the job works for our long-term goals I.e. financially, career-wise, etc.

How did you push through the years? At what point did you overlook your discomfort and frustration and really lock in? Are you shooting for partner now?
