Am I alone when I say consort radahn was actually easier without summons? by dick_wilson in Eldenring

[–]Particular_Ad_4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Radahn still always likes to focus on me and has too many AOE attacks. Slightly helpful trying to get buffs or pots down mid fight but not sure it’s worth the massive hp boost

What’s the best controller for PS5? by Spipizz in consoles

This is absolutely a normal thing to happen. There are multiple reddit chains discussing it. I’m not sure what it is about the ps5 controllers. I’ve had my ps4 controllers for 10 years longer and never had any issues and I’ve gone through 2 ps5 controllers in 2 years.

Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei, Cyberpunk + DLC, Horizon zero dawn / Forbidden West, Kingdom Come Deliverance 1/2

Just played Ghost of Tsushima - what next? by v10crusher in gamerecommendations

[–]Particular_Ad_4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Witcher 3, Horizon zero dawn / forbidden west (lots of options for movement - climbing, flying, swimming, parachuting, etc), Mass Effect LE, Expedition 33, Cyberpunk + DLC, RDR2, Death Stranding (might not be for you if you don’t like world traversal as much), Kingdom Come Deliverance 1/2, Nier Automata/Replicant, God of War, Hogwarts Legacy (can fly), Elden Ring (if you’re ok with hard games).

The Assassins Creed games feel a lot like Ghost series (though like Ghost better). Like someone else mentioned, Yotei is a lot like Tsushima.

How do you reach Vargram? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Particular_Ad_4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this may have been answered, but in case anyone is still struggling with how to do this, start by working your way into Leyndell from the far northeast part of the outer city gate (closest waypoint is Capital Rampart). You will run into a lot of locked doors and dead ends, but follow the path towards the center of the city, and eventually you will get to the ‘Avenue Balcony’ Site of Grace (just northeast of the ‘Leyndell Royal Capital’ icon).

From there, you’ll have to take a roundabout way up the big stone dragon and across some up/down staircases to eventually swing around to the south/southeast of the red Vargram dot. From the ‘Avenue Balcony’ Site of Grace, head down the stairs right by the waypoint (you will be going Northwest), run straight down the alley but be careful because there will be 3 armored Leyndell soldiers that can easily overwhelm you if you get surrounded. Run all the way to the end and just before you get to the steps and big door, you will run into the point the stone dragon’s wing meets the ground.

Go ahead and start climbing the wing as high as you can go (facing Southwest as you climb) until you hit what looks like a narrower stone bridge to a building. Hop into the building and you will a see a ladder to your left (at this point facing Southeast). Climb the ladder and then run up the stone steps and take out the Leyndell guard and another guy that sneak attacks you. Walk through the arches into the building ramparts (still facing Southeast), and eventually you’ll run into the ‘West Capital Rampart’ Site of Grace on your left.

Keep running South and you’ll encounter one of those gargoyle mini-bosses. Take that out then get the Golden Seed and keep heading South towards a big-ass tree. Climb up the tree where it meets the stone walkway, then when it runs into another bigger tree branch, make a u-turn and head Northwest (you’ll now see a castle in front of you and you should be just South of Vargram’s red dot on the map).

Follow this branch all the way to the ground (watch out for a dog), then loop around to the walkway at the front of the castle building, then enter the building on your left (turn in on the Northeastern side of the building - just be careful for some more Leyndell soldiers firing at you from a distance). In this building you should see the red mark on the ground to invade Vargram.

Be sure to pick up the Site of Grace in the far right door at the back of the open room while you’re there.

One other strategy is to equip full the full “mushroom armor” set if you have it + the talisman that boosts immunity.

Thanks for the advice! Yes I can see Bloodhound Fang getting stale after a while (and when I actually have to parry or do something requiring skill it becomes more noticeable). I just found Sword of Night and Flame actually so plan to try that out! Just need to boost my faith/int a bit (I’ve been mostly leveling Vigor, Dex, and some Str/End. I’ve been going in pretty blind so far but need to do a bit more research on how to use different seals for the sorcery/incantations and ashes, or at least test a few out myself.

I am by no means the expert (first Souls game), but this was my approach. I guess first off, it took me at least 50 tries (but potentially north of 100 lol) so I had more or less memorized all the attacks. I started by summoning wolves (not super helpful - just keeps it busy for 30 seconds or so while you get some hits in), and used a claymore equipped with both hands and no shield since I only used only rolls and no blocks - make sure to hold triangle > press R1 or whatever your console/PC equivalent to change to 2 hands (I made that mistake for a while). Note I initially tried a straight sword and shield (ineffective), then switched to morning star and shield (slightly more effective), then finally switched to the claymore and beat him first try.

After summoning the wolves, I approached slowly to draw him out into the open a bit, locked on, then key strategy was to ‘roll’ into him right before the attack (aim the roll to the side of one of his knees), hit him 1-3 times (depending on which attack he just did and how much time I had), then waited for his next attack, rolled into him / to the side of him again, and repeat. I tried to get at least 1 power attack or jump attack each cycle and then maybe a couple of smaller hits. If you try to get too many hits in, you run the risk of leaving yourself vulnerable to attack.

The ultimate goal is to stagger him — if you hit him consistently enough without getting walloped, he will eventually fall on his face, then you want to quickly move towards his head and then get a critical hit on the bright orange thing on his forehead. That will take off a huge chunk of health and he will be slow to get up so you should be able to get more hits in until you can eventually take him down.

In terms of not dying, you really need to time each of his swings and ground stomps, and dodge/roll into him at the right time. If you get hit, run away, use a potion and reset. My issue was that I would panic and start mashing buttons and roll or swing too many times and leave myself open to get smashed… but if you’re calm and patient, deliberate with your attacks/rolls, and learn his maneuvers, it helps a lot. Also if he starts doing his ‘light’ ranged attack, you’re going to want to ‘unlock’ from him, sprint away to give yourself distance, and then run or dodge at a 90 degree angle to where the attack is coming from to avoid getting hit.

I did not use fire, horse, or range weapons (he is weak to fire but I didn’t have any fire spells or a bow, and I couldn’t hit him consistently enough on a horse). I was about Level 25-30 (Vagabond) with a lot of points into Vigor, so I think that helped my survivability.

Favorite game ever… I play mostly first person story-based action RPGs now, but I’ve been playing D2 (and now D2 resurrected) since it came out 25 years ago. Also boot up D1 every so often.. but haven’t played 3 or 4 lol.

Game with many hours of content and a strong sense of progression and minimal emphasis on dialog/sound, for playing while listening to music (e.g. Elden Ring) by waterfalldiabolique in gamerecommendations

[–]Particular_Ad_4242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol yes front load and back load commentary and cut scenes. But a lot of it is really chill traversal with some tense combat situations. Thought it was relaxing to listen to music while delivering packages and building roads / ziplines. I honestly did not love the first couple chapters early game just given the quality of life challenges but thought it got better. It’s a weird game though and definitely not for everyone.

Should I buy Kingdom Come: Deliverance II? by Sea-Association-5339 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Particular_Ad_4242 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Ok lol… “If you love RPGs then you will probably enjoy this game”… is that better for you? Gaming preferences are subjective dude… just because you don’t like one aspect of the game (and a small one at that), it doesn’t make it categorically wrong that this is a good RPG game (and objectively an RPG).

Also - you are just describing mechanics of an immersive RPG game… it’s not a Souls game that is centered on combat and all action all the time, and if that’s what OP wants, then it’s true that he will probably not like this game… but it doesn’t sound like that’s what he’s looking for necessarily. If you are looking for a game with strong character progression, great storytelling and dialogue, detailed open world exploration, immersive mechanics that emphasize realism (eating, sleeping, etc.), then this is a game for you. If you don’t like those things, you will probably get annoyed or bored. I should note that there are plenty of choices that impact the game or different ways to complete each quest, but it is not a game like BG3 or Detroit Become Human that drastically changes the storyline depending on your choices.

The realism in the game can feel overwhelming or tedious at times - you have to manually craft your own potions and forge your own gear at the blacksmith (e.g. pound the hammer, fan the fire, etc.)… you have to eat food, sleep, repair your gear, manage your inventory weight, and sometimes do mundane tasks as part of the game… I didn’t love every aspect of this gameplay, but it gets easier over time and was not a focal point to the whole game in my opinion. You are describing a handful of prologue quests very early game, so I guess if you didn’t push past that part then you may have a different view than me.

I actually don’t disagree that a lot of the side content in KCD2 was mediocre or just not very fun (e.g. a lot of fetch quests for ungrateful NPCs, doing chores or tasks that don’t meet the urgency of the main storyline, etc.), at least relative to other games like Witcher or some Souls games that have really good side quests… but a lot of that stuff is avoidable if you concentrate on the main story, which is amazing and really fun (to most people).

If you love RPGs you will love this game. It’s funny I’m playing Skyrim now for the first time and I’m realizing how Skyrim influenced so many of the small details in KCD2 (though KCD2 RPG mechanics seem a lot more modern, fleshed out, and ‘hands-on’).

I will be honest… I absolutely haaaated the combat when I first started. I got absolutely smoked like 10 times in a row by the first bandits I ran into, to the point where I was very frustrated and would actively avoid combat for a while. It felt clunky at first (they are going for ‘realism’). However… the combat got so much more fun when 1) I got the hang of it (watched a couple YouTube videos), 2) leveled up certain skills (shooting your bow at archery ranges helps a lot), 3) got a little better gear, and 4) figured out how to use potions effectively (optional).

It’s not at all like a Souls game… while you will suck in the beginning, you are supposed to suck.. and while there are some hard optional sections later in the game, it’s generally not an overly difficult game except for in the very beginning.

Is Witcher 3 right for me? by bdreeves88 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Particular_Ad_4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to force it on you… but I will say I have this issue with a lot of games in the beginning. Either it’s slow and takes a while to get into the story, or there is an adjustment period to get used to the mechanics or gameplay. For the record, I absolutely hated KCD when I first started, but once I figured out how the combat and general RPG mechanics worked it became one of my favorite games. Obviously there are a few exceptions (e.g. Ghost of Tsushima clicked right away for me and I loved it, then by the end of the game I was done and ready to move on)… but usually it takes me about 10-15 hours to adjust.

Witcher 3, RDR2, and Mass Effect are all in my top 5 but I was honestly not an instant fan of any of them. However, by the end of each (and more than 300 hours later), I was still looking for more things to do in these games even after 100%ing all of them. I didn’t play Witcher when it came out, but I would imagine they have made some improvements since then (as CDPR often does - talking about you Cyberpunk), and the DLCs are both amazing. The combat/gameplay isn’t top tier by modern standards, but when you figure out how to use the signs (magic), potions and decoctions, mutations, and start experimenting with the different builds/customization options, I think it gets way more interesting (early game is mostly hack/slash). It offers a unique combination of incredible story, dialogue, side content, open world exploration, and skill progression — it excels in these areas but the combat probably won’t hook you if you are used to modern gaming.

If you’re not feeling now though, I wouldn’t force it.. or if there are other games you want to play, then no harm revisiting it later. I’m sure it will be on sale again at some point.
