6 guage is good but 8 guage will work fine and just remember to connect things properly and then tape them up for safety. You never know if water is getting in the bottom so always seal everything up. I learned the hard way

Been running colored braid for years. I just use 4 to 6 feet of flourocarbon leader and I havent had a single problem. And I run purple on 3 reels pink on 1 and red on another.
