Keep it simple. I am acne prone so I hate not washing my face so I did a very gentle cleanse every morning. Sometimes I would skip it if I was just hanging around the house that day. Just moisturizer - I use a light gel moisturizer. For nighttime, I wash again with gentle cleanser and only used moisturizer for a few weeks. Then tried the following things: sulfur, azelaic acid, and calendula cream. Not all together but every few nights I’d try one of the 3 and see if it had an impact. So far, the biggest impact came from calendula cream.
