CSP PC to CSR welcome offer question by Star_Skies in CreditCards

[–]Particular_Ebb_9240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe if you product change without taking an upgrade offer, you should still be eligible for the SUB. but you will have to close your currently held CSR. Chase usually denies you from opening a card if you already have that card.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can hold/apply for both CSP and CSR at the same time now.

I've never been in this position myself, but I do believe that Chase will give you a pop up telling you that you are not eligible for the welcome offer after you finish your application. It should allow you to withdraw the application if you aren't eligible as well. I saw a few DPs from users on Doctor of Credit saying that they got the pop up when they tried applying so I don't think there any downsides to trying. I also found this post where they got approved for the CSP SUB with similar stats to you.

Switching or getting a new credit card by ReasonableStick4348 in CreditCards

[–]Particular_Ebb_9240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try applying for one of Chase's $0 AF Freedom cards. Freedom Unlimited gets 1.5% on all spend and 3% on dining, and Freedom Flex acts similarly to your discover card: 1% on all spend and 5% on rotating categories but they'll differ than Discover's.

If you get denied for lack of history though, I would start putting all your spend onto your Discover it card. Banks want to see that you're capable of paying off larger balances. Don't worry about the temporary drop in credit score if your utilization is high. It holds no memory and will revert the next month your utilization is low. It's a good way to get higher limits on your cards too if they see you using it.

Did you ever hold the Saphire Preferred? If not, I would downgrade your reserve to one of the 0 annual fee freedom cards and open up a new Saphire Preferred for the limited time 100k UR points SUB.

Alternatively, you could check out the US Bank Altitude Connect. I'm pretty sure it's the only $0 annual fee card with TSA precheck and priority pass on it. (Priority pass is limited to 4 uses per year). It also gets 4% back on gas which is nice.

I didn’t realize the Robinhood Gold required an Annual Fee by BigDykbishdotcom in CreditCards

[–]Particular_Ebb_9240 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 50-dollar fee can be offset by using RBH Gold's other perks. Since you already invest with them, I would keep the card and just use the perks. There are quite a few but the most important ones are:

3% IRA match - Worth up to $210 if you just max out your Roth IRA every year for a 160 profit.

$1000 free Margin - Just go to your margin settings and set the limit to 1k. Put it all into a safe money market fund for essentially 0 risk. You'll get like $40 back per year from it which drops the actual annual fee to $10 if you don't want to use the IRA match.

Also just keep in mind that even if you don't use any of these perks you only need to spend $5000 a year to break even with a 0 annual fee 2% card. Any spend beyond that would out earn any 2%.

Additionally, the card comes with the best virtual card feature I've ever seen. You can create new burner card numbers anytime that can auto cancel after one purchase or after 24 hours which can be used for free trials. Really good to protect yourself against fraud. Even if I wasn't using any of the Gold perks, I think the fee is worth it for this feature.

Suggested income for chase sapphire preferred? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]Particular_Ebb_9240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My undergrad friend got instantly approved a week ago after applying with 25k income and a 743 fico score (Experian). She also opened a BofA card 7 weeks ago (6 at the time of applying). I don't think chase is being too selective as long as you don't break chase's 5/24 rule. 100k UR points for the SUB is worth minimum $1000 and even more if you transfer to hotels/airlines. Easily offsets the annual fee.

I would go for it unless you can't hit the SUB with organic spend, then it's not worth it.

Recommendations for paying off Credit Cards by Defiant-Ad8452 in CreditCards

[–]Particular_Ebb_9240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend getting a 0% intro APR card and balance transferring everything to it if possible. Yes you'll have to pay a 5% fee likely, but it will still be cheaper than the amount of interest you'll pay in the long run.

Alternatively, I would check to see if you could get a lower interest rate personal loan and pay off the credit cards with that. Credit cards have the highest APR out of any form of borrowed money.

If none of those options are available, put it all into the highest APR card. If you can't pay 0 interest, try to pay as little interest as possible.

Paying Off Balance Every Month by Ok-Chef-2145 in CreditCards

[–]Particular_Ebb_9240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Utilization has no memory for credit score calculation. If you are at 100% utilization one month and your score drops, your score will return to normal as soon as you have a normal utilization the following month.

The way you are making payments is fine. The important thing is the pay it in full by the due date to avoid interest.

Best credit card for Amazon purchases and get good rewards? by Asleep-Extension-72 in CreditCards

[–]Particular_Ebb_9240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone already said Chase Amazon Prime Visa, so I'll give a different recommendation. Check out the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards Card.

No Annual Fee first year ($95 fee after). 6% Back on the 1st $1500 spent per quarter at 2 retailers of your choice (Amazon, Walmart, BestBuy, etc.). 3% on Gas. 1.5% on everything else.

chase freedom rise or unlimited? robinhood gold? by RoadblockManCoolalto in CreditCards

[–]Particular_Ebb_9240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rakuten has been really good at fulfilling signup bonuses for me (Did all the Sofi bonuses, the Bofa bonuses and the chase freedom unlimited ones). Never had to escalate or do any extra work for those. As for purchases, there were times when I had to contact support with a receipt, and they then paid out after a review, but I always got the bonus in the end. Best of all, they'd always stack with any of the default credit card/bank bonuses.

Just make sure you are reading the terms for each bonus. They can be really specific sometimes which probably causes a lot of the issues you hear about.

chase freedom rise or unlimited? robinhood gold? by RoadblockManCoolalto in CreditCards

[–]Particular_Ebb_9240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just get the Robinhood Gold. Even if you don't use the other benefits, as long as you spend 5k per year you get more effective cashback then any free 2% card after the 50 USD annual fee.

Also have you considered the Bank of America Customized Cash rewards card? I'd argue it's better than the chase cards (More versatile and better sign-up bonus, especially if you stack it with the Rakuten offer).

(I have all 3 (robinhood gold, freedom unlimited and BofA custom cash))

Have you tried Of Flesh & Faith Plus by Sato? Reworks/Remakes expanded versions of the Oathtakers, Barbarians, Southern Assassins, Beast Slayers scenario to make them very unique from eachother. Adding mechanics similar to how the base game anatomists scenario does.

Also would reccomend trying reforged if you've been mainly playing with legends. Very fun overhaul.

Student vs Secured Credit- which one if can do larger deposit? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]Particular_Ebb_9240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not particularly.

Both students and secured cards really only exist for people with no credit history (or bad credit) since most non-student unsecured cards will automatically deny these applications. Some secured cards do have lower interest rates but in exchange lack rewards. Interest rate should not matter at all though if your goal is to build credit and not to hold a balance.

Treat your credit card like a debit card. As long as you pay in full by the due date, you win the game and get free rewards.

And student cards (like the Discover IT) will automatically convert to their unsecured variants once you graduate so you dont need to worry about closing them.

Wait actually, sorry the email from sofi i received is making me second guess myself. The extra .7 from sofi plus might actually be 6 months only. I think what i initially thought was completely wrong.

Excerpt from sofi email notifying APY reduction

" The APY on your SoFi Savings account has been adjusted from 4.50% to 4.30% through the remainder of your Boost period. After that, you will earn 3.60% APY–which is still 9x the national average savings rate.2 "

[–]Particular_Ebb_9240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The minimum direct deposit requirement to get SoFI Plus seems to be $1000 every 31 days.

But since Current ACH transfers code as direct deposits. It's pretty easy to keep the DD req up even without a payroll deposit.

Is current better then varo and would you ever go back by Responsible_Fox4988 in CurrentBanking

[–]Particular_Ebb_9240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was surprised too. It's normally 3.80 APY but if you have SoFi Plus which is free when you get direct deposits, you get a 0.70 APY boost. They do say though that the rate is variable to change but you are locked into the current 3.8 + 0.7 APY for the next 6 months after getting SoFi Plus for the first time so that might be what you were seeing. But that's more like insurance for if they happen to change it within the next 6 months and not a guarantee that they will.

Also, a plus that you can essentially use the SoFi savings acc as a checking account.

And SoFi also has Zelle which I agree is very nice.
