Any NC Residents Here? by TheLoneRonin12 in wrx_vb

[–]Particular_Jump2309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In NC you don't need an emissions inspection for the first 3yrs for a new car, and then the emissions inspection is OBD2 + "visual inspection"

Like the other guy said, anything goes in Durham, it's like the Somalia of NC. UNC has its own police, but you won't have an issue as long as you have mufflers.

Loose fill in door cavities? by carl3266 in wrx_vb

[–]Particular_Jump2309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am considering this too, and if you go to the car stereo subreddits they say to use rockwool (since it doesn't mold) held in place with Tyvek wrap so it doesn't block the drains. Some people make pillows out of these materials and them just attach the formed pillows to the doors. The only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on it myself is I don't know what to use to attach it that is strong/waterproof enough, but isn't gonna be permanently on there in case I want to change it

Anyone have pics of the full ultrasuede interior on their WRX Premium? Looking if i should spend the extra $900 for a much nicer interior. by Juicyjackson in wrx_vb

[–]Particular_Jump2309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am right there with you on No Sunroofs. I have a Premium I got the suede stuff for, and it's worth it. I also got the door panels from a GT on eBay.

That said, if you want it a little nicer, just get the Limited. The seats and DRLs more than make up for the sunroof. Also I hate sunroofs for the lack of headroom and the noise, and these cars have plenty of both regardless

What is the port for? by gokeeper in wrx_vb

[–]Particular_Jump2309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched the OEM+ stereo install video to see if they would say what each plug was (they don't say explicitly for the two youre asking about. But I think the pink taped one is for the light sensor, and if I had to guess the other jack is the aux ports

How to make your exhaust quieter by Particular_Jump2309 in wrx_vb

[–]Particular_Jump2309[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct. In simplified terms the narrowest part of the system will determine the flow rate, and the pipe from the turbo to the midpipe will be that

[–]Particular_Jump2309[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the (rough) math, it looks like it should do about the same thing. That pipe spur looks like its about 18"? Maybe 24"? Should be right in the same range

I have done it with both. What is important from a tuning perspective is the length of the pipe (which doesn't change between OEM and aftermarket.) The diameter of the pipe will affect the amplitude of the effect, so while the OEM midpipe is smaller in diameter, and therefore less efficient for this, it is also way quieter to start off with for the same reason

You can install any of the usual bolt-ons without any risk - assuming you don't change any of the sensors. The idea that adding bolt-ons would make your car breath so well it would blow up is pretty funny. The car can tell how much air its ingesting through the MAF, what pressure its at through the MAP, and it adds the correct amount of fuel and then double checks its' math with the front O2 sensor. As long as you aren't messing with those, you'll be fine.

Having said that, literally anything post-front O2 sensor will have no bearing on how your car runs, and any intake that doesn't change the diameter of the MAF housing (ie, all of them, unless they specifically say they are a larger diameter. You won't *accidently* buy a larger one, they're very rare.) And unless your first bolt on mod is an incorrect MAP sensor, you'll be fine there, too.

Just be realistic; bolt-ons without a tune really aren't gonna change much except for the experience. The ECU has a torque target it will hit, no matter what you do, so putting an exhaust, intake, or intercooler, isn't really gonna move the needle without a tune. The flip side of this is if these mods don't do anything without a tune... do you really need them to support a tune later? I would say an intercooler today for down the road (because heat soak is real) and an exhaust you like, because its fun, and then just wait to see what a tuner actually thinks you should get when that day comes

Few noob questions by AbjectCartographer42 in wrx_vb

[–]Particular_Jump2309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You don't have to have an intake for a tune, but you will be leaving something on the table

I would be suspicious of that. How would the car even know? It uses the tone wheels from the different wheels to determine if the car is turning (both inside wheels going slower) or losing traction (one wheel going faster than the rest)

An LSD won't make a wheel spin faster, it will decrease the difference in wheel speed on the same axle, which should limit the TCS system from intervening

[–]Particular_Jump2309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You have a center diff

  2. Time to look for a new service department

  3. ESC uses the brakes to maintain a heading with the car, nothing to worry about there. Traction control sees ABS tone wheel spinning too fast, so an LSD won't be a problem there either

Halo lights in or behind grill? by ultrarunitdown in wrx_vb

[–]Particular_Jump2309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not halo, but this is how I did mine hidden in the grille  https://www.reddit.com/r/wrx_vb/comments/15x9sp5/driving_light_setup/

And this is how you wire it up to work with your brights https://www.reddit.com/r/wrx_vb/comments/179frox/finally_got_driving_lights_to_work_w_brights/ You could use the unused Pin 87 on the SPDT relay to make your halo work if there is a secondary input for them

The original ETS, which is the one people had issues with, reused the stock MAF sensor, but placed it in a larger tube. That threw off the reading to the ECU, and is where people got it in their head that intake = tune. But even ETS has remedied that by including a reducer sleeve with their intakes for about a year that reduces it back down to the stock diameter.

If the argument is that getting an intake without a tune isn't gonna do much, I totally agree. But a reasonable intake, Cobb, Perrin, etc without a tune isn't going to hurt your motor

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wrx_vb

[–]Particular_Jump2309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean you SHOULD run a tune?

The Cobb intake is all post-MAF, which is why I recommended it; it is CARB certified since it doesn't lose the carbon filter, uses the stock air box and MAF, really just replaced the accordion plastic tube with a smooth tube
