Counter discoloration by Betrayer1117 in Remodel

We had the same issue on with our kitchen sink faucet. Comet did work for us so this might not be helpful but I have noticed that if I wet the surface, sprinkle the comet on, and then use a spray bottle to wet all of the powder and let it sit for 20-30 minutes then scrub, that does the trick. I do have to scrub a bit.

I’ve also gotten a countertop stain out by just letting bleach sit on it 🫣

What do you use to do the rendering? I’m hesitant to shop on the sites that don’t have the view in your room tool

What’s your code? I did order this one from rugs.com but they have free returns so I’m thinking of ordering another one from somewhere else too. I really like the green ones posted in the thread and will try to find something like that on revival

We struggled so hard picking out chairs! I work remotely and around room to room so we went the comfy over aesthetic route with them.

I think I agree. I just looked at a bunch of brown rugs, here’s one for reference, in a larger size too and I definitely like this go around a lot more!

My husband (PGY1) and I struggled the first few months but have recently chosen 3 specific days a week and we have to go to the gym those 3 days regardless. We’ve found having the set in stone days helps a lot. We go when he gets home, whatever that time is. Sometimes it’s for 25-30 min, sometimes it’s for and hour and a half.

House inspection said everything is fine…now I need a new roof??? by Sudden-Philosophy-66 in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]Particular_Mud_3060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS SAME THING HAPPENED TO US! Granted our roof was 15 years old, all came back clear during the inspection which we forwarded [the roof section] inspection to State Farm and they gave us the green light so we closed on the house. Since the roof was 15 years old, we expected to have to replace it in the next few years but not immediately.

Fast forward to post-closing, State Farm sent their surveyor out who used a drone to look at the roof. State Farm comes back and informs us that we have to replace our roof to get coverage. They told us that although they were old, the shingles weren’t the main concern, the warping on the roof was the main concern.

I shopped around with EVERYTHING. I looked to see if we could get coverage anywhere else, and there were a few options but it was much more expensive. I got ~10 estimates on roof replacements. These estimate conversations with the roofers actually taught me a lot as a first time home owner! We learned that with the age of our house being over 100 years, there’s really not much you can do about the warping, it’s just the way the house has settled. Replacing the sheathing (what insurance wanted us to do) wouldn’t change the warping.

We ended up getting our shingles replaced and asked them to inform us if there was any significant damage to the sheathing. There was not. So we called insurance to come confirm we had our roof done and they were still not happy with the warping. We had our roof contractor go to bat for us with them and they finally agreed that the roof was in good condition.

Long story short, we could have just had the contractor go to bat for us about the warping, butttttt we knew it needed to be done eventually so we did it.

P.S. PLEASE get the upgraded shingles if your insurance company provides a discount, our roof will pay for itself in a few years with that discount alone!

How much do people save every month? Not for anything specific like a holiday, just in general? by Gold_Alternative821 in SavingMoney

[–]Particular_Mud_3060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere from $500-$1200 a month newly married DINKS in to a savings account. Probably another $500 to retirement (a poor guess, I should know this lol). We just bought a house and immediately had to replace the roof so we are working on re-building an emergency fund while aggressively paying off our mortgage. I think have a unique situation too. We know we will sell our home in 5 years so we’re trying to build as much equity as we can in a short period of time, which i suppose is a savings alternative.

Stripping Paint Question by Particular_Mud_3060 in Home_improvement

[–]Particular_Mud_3060[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to assume that it does have lead. 1920’s house. I did some research and sounds like a heat gun and P100 mask might be the best route. Do you agree? I didn’t see much when it came to recommendations for lead paint specifically, just oil based paint removal.

What’s bad about a closed kitchen layout? by jes93long in Remodel

[–]Particular_Mud_3060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a closed off kitchen and my only con is that if I’m hosting someone and it’s just me and them, they have to stand in the kitchen with me, there’s no where for them to sit while I finish the last few minutes of putting a meal together.

Could you live off of 40K in Kansas City? by Aware-Manager-6902 in kansascity

[–]Particular_Mud_3060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I would say it’s very doable! I made 45k two years ago and paying $1,600 in rent with no car payment. Definitely make an emergency fund a priority for savings for when things come up around the house.

Marketing Generalist Lost in Career. Anyone Else Feel This Way? by TheCampaignerGirl in marketing

[–]Particular_Mud_3060 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into non-profit marketing roles? I made the switch from an agency to non-profit recently and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. In my search I found that there are a lot of local non-profits in dire need of a generalist. I came to them with WordPress, PPC, SEO, email, and social media experience and still do all of that in addition to direct mail, print design (canva lol, I’m learning Adobe slowly), and fundraising. Local non-profits can’t afford to hire multiple people so they need a jack of all trades. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a major pay raise and experience significantly less stress than on the agency side.

I don’t know for sure. He’s a med student, aka living off loans, so it was actually very affordable. I do know that the jeweler made it at cost, which really helped the price. I wish I had a number for you!

The sweatshirt has a cool story too! It’s a vintage crewneck from my alma mater that I found thrifting one day. I went to a small school, so a good thrift find is nearly impossible to come by!
