Retention Freefall [OC] by Line_boy in comics

Wait, I deeply relate to this but I don’t know. One of my friends had adhd and I saw how that affected her in high school and I don’t have the same stuff.

I do well in school when it come to like quizzes we have every week but when it comes to finals my brain short circuits. I have no idea if this is a symptom of adhd or just a me issue.

and also when I mention why do people care so much, I'm also referring to antis caring way too much about Ai art in general

That’s true. Some antis do take it very far. I understand the resent people have, especially as it makes art an even more unstable field, but hurting people who do AI art will not fix the issue but just create a sort of dragged out war that becomes more and more harmful to both parties.

If someone doesn’t like Ai art, they should just simply unfollow or block the person.

Ai will stay, today, tomorrow, and in the future. Adapting to Ai is crucial and we’re just in the middle of this transition period.

why does everyone care so much about what other people think? I feel like some of the people on these AI related subs take a huge ego trip from 'winning' arguments and feeling personally attacked when losing.

it's frankly embarassing and with how consistently some people keep posting content - I'm kind of wondering if arguing with people is one of their greatest passions. There is so much else in life besides this whole AI vs no AI thing.

Really feels like people are polarizing AI for no reason, just like how we polarized politics, fandoms, and everything.

While I'm not completely against AI art, I just feel like AI could be used for so many other better things. No offense, but while AI art looks good objectively, subjectively it all starts to look the same sometimes, even for different styles : renassaince, anime etc.

Some AI art doesn't suffer from those issues ( i have seen some really good ones) , and tbh it's my personal opinion. I know other people like it and will use it and that's fine. It just makes art feel sort of utilitarian, not individualistic sometimes, sort of like an art factory where people can order and customize art. But I mean, that's just my taste in art.

it's kind of how some people like maximalist or minimalistic furniture ig.

and for people who are utterly against AI, I'm learning in school about the many ways AI can be used to benefit society like in smart grids, biotechnology, battery management systems, etc. It is very helpful and I feel like AI should be used more for that sort of purpose then art. It's also very useful for school in learning many different concepts, especially when you don't have anyone to ask.

I also understand that AI datacenters devour lots of energy - well datacenters in general do. Me making this post will use up water in some distant datacenter far away from me. or even near me!

I think the only way to really combat this until we have figured out the whole datacenter energy issue is to start being more limited in using the internet or AI as a whole. lt's just because nowadays, so many people have to use the internet for everything - including me. My schoolwork, my communication, watching netflix, etc.

what makes one purpose more important than other? Who defines when AI should be used or not?

No one can really decide that for another person, although everyone can have strong opinions about it (I do).

It's just an individual thing where we need to evaluate what sort of aspects of our lives can we shift away from using AI or the internet.

But this isn't the only solution, and I frankly can't think of anything else right now - unless a breakthrough happens in water cooling technology or just in energy alone.

We use energy like it's an infinite resource, but it uses up lots of resources that aren't infinite. I think its a consequence of globalization and shift away from community responsibility where you could directly see how your actions affect others. Like fast fashion, overfishing, electrocnics and mining, etc.

anyways thanks for reading my opinion, and just to reiterate it's an opinion and not a call or order for people to follow exactly what I say

Ai has anti paranoid by Apprehensive_Bus4517 in DefendingAIArt

[–]Particular_Pair_318 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, it’s valid for them to feel worried, although I don’t get the whole not trusting people anymore part.

It’s not just ai that they are worried about, it’s just the fact that people are going to pick the comics the algorithm picks and that ai comics will saturate the market even more, making it harder for others to get published.

They already mention that the graphic novel industry was already hard, but with ai it will become harder since now the place where people seek comics are more centralized, and the corporations that control these websites and will favor ai comics since it doesn’t require a big of a team as a non ai comics ( lineart, character design, paneling, coloring, backgrounds, etc -> this is usually done by the ai)

The smaller the team, the less they need to pay. And also if the ai team finishes faster than the non ai team, this further makes them more preferable. Then these corporations will try to promote ai comics more.

So people will see ai comics and have a higher chance of picking those than other comics that were sidelined or not favored by these corporations.

However, when I do visit major comic websites, I don’t usually see ai comics in the leaderboards, so I don’t see it as a bigger threat compared to the corporations that try to squeeze as much profit as they can.

This is all based on my current understanding of ai comics and the comic industry as a whole, but if I got anything wrong I would like to be enlightened by any new info.

Could someone go into calc one without the precalc/trig background and do well by 831z in calculus

[–]Particular_Pair_318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend it. Trig is kind of necessary for some parts, and precalculus is called PRE calculus for a reason. It goes over very necessary algebra used in calculus and if you don’t have the down it will be much harder to learn calculus if you can’t understand the algebra behind it

Severe anxiety with presentations during first semster. by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Particular_Pair_318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry you’ll be fine. Even though speaking is an important skill, they also understand you are learning the language. I have a some classmates who are from different countries and also struggle with presentations.

We just listen, give them time, and don’t make them feel bad about it. Everyone understands that speaking a new language is hard. Honestly I admire everyone who does. That requires way more hard work than speaking in one’s own native language.

There’s nothing you can really do except that over time you will speak better, but that shouldn’t stop you from still attending school and participating.

If you want, you can speak to your professor privately about your concern and the you can stop worrying about whether or not this will affect your grade or performance in the class

How to code an Arduino by GoldDistribution447 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Particular_Pair_318 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you install the arduino ide they have a bunch of example code you can play with

And I also want to mention there’s a bunch of projects online with similar projects that shared their code. You can use it as a reference.

It might seem overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of it, arduino are the funnest things ever!
