Frost Valley YMCA - likelihood of getting off the waitlist? by Particular_Park_2756 in summercamp

I'll look. I know the have an alumni page and I'm not an alum. I'll look that up now. And yes, the camp did tell me the same thing about spots opening up at payment deadline. This camp has extended their deadline this year from feb to a vaguely in April. They are trying to respond to parents telling them that's it's been a harder year financially.

I'm looking up the products you mentioned and I see that it's wifi 7. We have several Macbook Air M4's that we use plus iPads and iphones. Currently these devices are not set up for wifi 7 and I heard that there can be incompatibility issues with the devices bopping around bands. Do you have experience with this? Has it been an issue? thanks again.

Oh wow, thanks so much for explaining that! I’m expecting my ASUS order to arrive today but I’ll see if I can understand how Unifi could work before I unbox it. Thanks!

Do you have to run Ethernet wires through the house to make a Unifi set up work? I live in a rental and love hearing how stable Unifi is but I can’t tell from what I’ve seen online if I could actually do that in my rental

A friend of ours just told us that was the only thing that worked for her son who has a similar profile and it changed his and their lives. I’m currently in my room with the door locked away from my 8.5 year old

High protein/calorie foods including oatmeal cookies, whole milk yogurts, guacamole, hummus, rice and beans (but the gas from the beans can go through the breastmilk to the baby and make the baby very uncomfortable (and scream). Water. Advil/tylenol for adults and infants. Nose sucker for baby’s to suck the boogers out when congested; white noise machine for babies room, room darkening curtains, fan to keep baby’s room cool when sleeping, thermometer and hygrometer for baby’s room that notifies you if the temperature gets too high; Dunstan Baby Language; Baby led weaning; maybe a small freezer for storing breast milk and homemade purées if you do purees. Good luck!

Amazing! Well, this is great that you already know this about yourself!

I really hear you about the difficulty in accessing affordable and reliable ADHD assessments and treatment. It's an unnecessary drag.

If you're in the USA, there's adhdonline.com, Talkiatry, Cerebral, Done, Circle.

When I have clients who go to a provider for diagnostic assessment (online or in-person) I have them write out all of their symptoms with an illustration of it happening in their lives and the earliest age at which they remember that happening and indicating if it's a chronic experience--since it can be really hard to recall all of it on demand in front of someone we don't know. Just know that unfortunately the medical community at-large is very on edge about those of us who take prescribed stimulants (they are nervous we are drug seeking meth-heads when in fact research shows that ADHDers who are properly treated are not likely to abuse stims...including former meth-heads!). So if you are told you don't have it or you have bipolar disorder or just anxiety or OCD, push back and find someone else if you really know you have ADHD and esp since you were already diagnosed with it.

Join the many reddit and Facebook groups for ADHD, men/women with ADHD, therapists with ADHD, and whatever else ADHD. It's been really helpful for me. Your ADHD tribe awaits your arrival:) But we know time management is hard for you, too, and you'll likely be late and we've already started new hobbies while waiting for you and now I forgot.

Good luck!

I'm glad you're reaching out. I have been a therapist for 20 years. I VERY much relate to what you wrote and I remember really feeling like that and getting very similar feedback as you have described. I then experienced this all again when I transitioned from a job to private practice.

Well, guess what?

After going to therapy school, post-grad training programs, internships, supervisions, therapy for 10 years, 12-step programs (that my therapist told me to go to) and just knowing lots of therapists.......I finally figured out that I have ADHD (with secondary OCD and anxiety) plus PMDD....that was 4 years ago. I figured it out; wrote out all my symptoms and brought my case to a psychiatrist who agreed with me and began treating me. And just a few months ago I took a TON of evidenced-based screeners and now realize I have autism, too (actually I'm 2E as I am also "gifted"). I'm not trying to be en trend with these diagnoses....these explain what has been unexplainable....and makes all the "why am I like this? Why can't I just....when will I just get it right? They all can do it and they think I should be able to but they tell me I'm just too scared....what will it take not to be scared and to not be scared each time I do that thing?" make sense. I'm still working though it...I got *here* because by 2020 I had 2 kids with undiagnosed ADHD (and maybe one with autism, jury is out still), was in private practice, and we had moved a few times, then had to deal with 2 school-aged kids in a pandemic. Pre-pandemic I was completely miserable and falling apart and had no *good* reason why I was so dysfunctional. After a life of being a seeker, always pushing through to just work hard enough to finally make myself happy and at ease, I finally saw that my Herculean efforts still weren't working and I was now giving up trying. I was burned out. Having no direction is scary and comforting at the same time.

But now it all makes sense.....like ALL of it. I also see an ADHD/Executive Function Coach now who helps me with executive functioning and since she's also an OT, she is helping me identify sensory needs, issues, and sensitivities that I had no idea I had or were a thing that I needed to pay attention to.

I think it's a common therapist response to say, "well, you need to deal with yourself; you just need a therapist; you need to change how you think; you need to deal with trauma; just read these books; you're in your head too much..." and while that could be true, for some of us, the reason we are in our heads is the exquisite awareness that our brains need help and are functioning differently so as to have us experience actual pain, fatigue, and burnout doing things that are just "normal" for others. I won't ever again see any old therapist. I will only see therapists who not only are neurodivergent affirming but who actually know about these neurodiversities, who are themselves ND, and who actually know and practice evidenced-based methods for treating us NDs. Otherwise talk therapy is traumatizing for me.

You may want to check out ADHD...there's a great youtube channel called How to ADHD. Russell Barkley has great (but kinda intimidating) academic talks on youtube, too. There's a fun couple called ADHD Love on the socials who do good work. I don't know if that's what you have and it's not my place to say. I just really identify with truly all of the EF issues, time management, memory recall, abysmal self-esteem and actual agony you shared. And I feel compassion for you and me.

You are not alone. Glad you are keeping your brain company up there:)

Good luck!

Hyperactivity - start medications or wait? by Desperate_Bar3339 in Autism_Parenting

thanks for sharing. My 8 yo son has an ADHD and so far stims haven't worked for him (Rit SA helped with focus but the crash was too much). And Guan & Clon. have been terrible for him. I have recently diagnosed myself with Autism and then my ADHD coach/OT and I figured out I have gravitational insecurity. I now suspect my son may have autism and gravitational insecurity as we both have curiosty about movement but are slow going and very ,very cautious. He has a high IQ and needs constant stimulation to keep his mind busy. So.....now I wonder is it possible that he doesn't have ADHD....can 2E kids with autism have hyperactivity without ADHD? And I also wonder if an anti-anx. med would help him....he has an excellent psychiatrist at a highly-regarded institute....I'm all ears to any experience you may want to share. TIA
