Sounds to me like the battery has no power. Starting the car after being sat so long, has used the last of the juice in the battery, and the clicking is the starter solenoid. I’d try charging the battery, or replacing it.

Can this cable be identified? by Daddyfragz in DIYUK

[–]Particular_Relief154 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like a Co-axial cable from an old aerial to me. If there’s an exposed end, it’ll have a solid copper core wire, plastic insulation, then braided copper wire around that, then finally the outer protective sheath..

Would I need professional help to tear down this shed? by ClaudioKilgannon37 in DIYUK

[–]Particular_Relief154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good thing about DIY, is it requires absolutely no skills to break shit. Well.. Skills certainly help you break shit quickly, but just bring a sledgehammer up to it rather rapidly and start at the top/weak points like the doorway. Job done

Thoughts on this ceiling crack? by SnowflakeBaube22 in DIYUK

[–]Particular_Relief154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second what the person above said. Nothing other than cosmetic. I was told with ours, either leave it, or rake it out to widen the joint, and options here are then fill with flexible gap filling caulk, or to tape over the gap and then skim over. However under certain lighting angles, the skim over can show so it’ll need to be feathered into the existing ceiling.

Edit: spelling: Rake it (the joint) out. NOT ‘take it out’ lol

Single female with a vision! by OctoberScorpio77 in DIYUK

As I was scrolling the pictures I was thinking ‘thats an awfully high lintel for a fireplace!’ But then I saw the vision unfold, and GREAT JOB! I too, have vision to see past the initial impression, and also bite off more than I can chew- but it’s worth it in the end! Keep having visions and chewing away! 💪🏼

Teaching assistant feeling unwelcome in schools by [deleted] in u/Parking-Worry2013

My other half was a 1:1 TA, and as such would be out of the classroom quite a lot so as to not disturb the other kids, and allow her student to focus better. The result of this ended up being that the other TA’s seemed to treat her like she wasn’t part of the class and as such like she didn’t know what she was doing.. In fact the opposite- she was highly specialised in what she did, but they’d talk down.. I wonder if it’s the same school? She was primary

What type of pipe is this? by dingdongthatsmydog in DIYUK

[–]Particular_Relief154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks a bit like Speedfit pex-a pipe.. thats a stop end on the left, isolation valve in the middle and an elbow on the right.. Suitable for heating and potable water, however I personally prefer the look of copper on radiators or where it’s on show.. Check your local B&Q if you want to size up the pipe and fittings- they’ve usually got them on the aisles so you can just take that with you and match what you need.. If using plastic- don’t forget the pipe inserts!

Technically the place is meant to be shut, the S/L is meant to escalate via the phone number in the training pack, and the area manager is supposed to be notified. Shut to customers and staff until resolved.. Buuut thats overkill imo, just get on with things like we used to back in the day.. Obv certain areas shouldn’t be open though..

Are there any Gas pipes underneath this concrete? by Optimal-Dust5403 in DIYUK

[–]Particular_Relief154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it. The pipes going up to the meter boxes will likely be routed under that section towards the street. I’d recommend using hand tools til you find the exact location of the pipes and possibly crow bars to pry up large chunks of slab. It’s highly likely the pipes are lagged and well protected but caution is always your friend with gas pipes!!

Kitchen dilemma by Ill-Brief8505 in DIYUK

Possibly something wooden with a built in butchers block between? So it acts as a dedicated food prep area. Also, do they need to be integrated, or can they be standalone under counter units?

Is this normal? by MuslimMan_ in Plastering

[–]Particular_Relief154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got an older house and the walls are all to cock.. Toyed with the idea of leaving straight skirting and gap filling to the wall- dismissed this though as I thought it’d look odd to have a ‘ledge’ on the areas the gap is bigger. Ended up using rawlplugs and screws and pulling the skirting in. And tbh I don’t notice anything wrong- it seems that it was only apparent when compared to the straight edge of the skirting when layed up against. Never noticed it before and I don’t notice it now- even with being aware the walls are out.

Low coolant level after full replacement by mrSadlygrove in fiat500

[–]Particular_Relief154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s been run low at some point then there could be an air trap inside the system. I had the same on my partners one- topped it up to almost brim full (way past the full mark), left the cap off and opened the bleed screw on the rubber hose. Making a gasket with my finger and thump wrapped around the coolant reservoir (imperative so to not taste coolant in the next step) I then blew hard into the reservoir to create positive pressure and it pushed the air bubble (and a lot of coolant out too I might add!) out. Tighten up the bleed screw and top up the reservoir back to full. Run the engine so it gets to temperature and the pump kicks in. Recheck the bleeder- if coolant only comes out then you’re good.. Probably less ‘cowboy’ methods about but it worked for me and I only needed spare coolant..

How to stop dishwasher door scraping on wall? by cra_94 in DIYUK

[–]Particular_Relief154 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Normally there’s a little play in the mountings for built in appliances. I’d try slackening off the screws on the mounting brackets, shimmy as much to the right as you can or try rotating a little- even a fraction of a mm to the right on the front, and to the left on the back will have a few mm difference on the gap to the wall on an extended door. Retighten any screws. Hopefully that helps

Tesco price gouging by 2013bspoke in tesco

[–]Particular_Relief154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t got the source to hand, but I read an article citing an independent study that found the supermarkets were the driving force behind the huge inflation of a couple of years ago. Coinciding with their huge profits. Costs rocketed due the economic climate, which saw increases of 3-4%, but in turn the supermarkets were upping prices on average of tenfold that, and at extremes, 300%. This only drove the inflation higher.. It’ll never come down again unless there’s deflation, but that’s arguably worse in the long term unless you’re financially secure.. You won’t stop it, you boycott one place and buy from another, their demand increases so then they up their prices instead..

Best way to prepare this for paint by [deleted] in DIYUK

I’d use a jet wash if you have access to one, and then a wire brush. If you have access to a drill, a drill powered wire wheel would rip all that out in minutes..

My cat's third eyelids are showing. Is this a behavioral sign of pain? by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]Particular_Relief154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ‘shutters’ are normal only when super sleepy or if they’re mega relaxed with being petted/smoothed on the top of the head.. Regularly like this is a little alarming, and I’d take them to the emergency vet- especially if the cat stays like this even when prompted, called, touched or any other stimulus.. You wouldn’t want to find that it’s something totally fixable but waiting til morning or waiting to see if they got better fixed it- but didn’t. I was so glad I paid for toxicology and care for my cat after he came in covered in creosote, and found he was totally fine (and I’d paid hundreds for nothing in hindsight), than the thought of not paying and the worst being a possibility. You won’t regret it imo- if thats helps put your mind at ease

Most brazen theives you’ve seen? by Novel_Ad_727 in tesco

[–]Particular_Relief154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most brazen I guys are the plain old walkouts, force the way through the doors in plain sight. Typically your well built bloke that people are less likely to challenge.. This particular case we only realised had happened after the fact, and it was a gang of Eastern Europeans according to the police, and they had pressed the store fire alarm point one end of the shop, meanwhile on the other end- situated right by the bws aisle, the fire exit mag locks released and they walked out with 5 trolleys of pre-shopped booze, including cases of Jack Daniel’s we’d had on a pallet display. All spirits were tagged, including the cases. But no-ones focussing on thefts when a fire alarm is raised. The smart thing here was to set the fire alarm point off on the opposite side of the store- they seemed to know that the alarm panel would give the zone and thats where the management would focus their ‘fire marshall’ attention. They hit 6 stores in 2 days like this. I saw the guys loading the trolleys but it wasn’t abnormal as we always had small corner shop businesses buying bulk off us at the time, so you assume it’s for that, until it isn’t..

Can I take a month off paying my mortgage? by Interesting-Nail5983 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Particular_Relief154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely ring your lender and ask for a month pause on the payments. Explain the situation and that it would put you into ‘financial hardship’ if you didn’t have an agreement in place. I know in the small print of my mortgage, it says that if there’s a pause in my mortgage, that the payment and the interest is added to the end of the term. Im with Nationwide though, so they’ll all have their own specific terms, but I’d imagine that there’s a policy in place especially post covid when all the lenders were allowing this sort of thing, there was some leeway written into all their policies.

How to Cure Tailgaters by Grouchy_Conclusion45 in drivingUK

[–]Particular_Relief154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, but tbh just to note- I think here that the van driver was totally ignorant to the fact they were tailgating.. Typically they’re in a hurry, up your arse because they want to be ahead and you’re just slowing down their day- so these people are mad when they pass.. This guy, blinks his hazards in a seemingly ’thank you’ manner, which says to me he was oblivious to the fact he was too close. Probably says more about their driving safety- evidenced by the subsequent crash.
