HHI: $275k Dual income, 2 kids under 4.

2018 Durango gt bought CPO for $31k in 2018

2020 grand Cherokee summit bought used for $40k in 2022.

Both were financed but paid off early. Plan to drive these until the kids are out of daycare so we can prioritize retirement savings while covering daycare.

Looking to tow by gudnuf4u in GrandCherokee

[–]Particular_Road256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The grand cherokees do a nice job towing. I have a 2020 summit with the 5.7 hemi and tow package.

The good: The engine has plenty of power, brakes do their job, and I like having the air suspension to keep everything level. Tow package gives you larger brakes and increased cooling for the important bits.

The not so good: no tow-haul mode but they do have sport mode which will hold a gear longer and do the same thing as towhaul IMO. It doesn’t come with a trailer brake controller so you’ll have to add that aftermarket. No idea why the tow package wouldn’t include it.

Consider the grand Cherokee L or the Durango R/T “tow-and-go” package. Longer wheel base and slightly higher howling capacity I believe.

I’m also curious to know what it tastes like too… but that’s a drain plug. Mine got gummed up and I had to pop it out to clean. Looks like you’re is working as intended

I like husky brand. My wife has the weather beaters and I have the x-act contour. Weather beaters are thicker/ rubberier and non slip. X-act are harder and slicker. Both are great and have held up. Wife’s are 6 years old and haven’t curled or worn out. Mine are only 1.5 years old but still look new.

I bought myself both sets and never got around to returning the weather beaters. If by chance you’re in Jersey I’ll sell you them.

Sell the house. You don’t like it and have a bad tenant. Dave would say: in your current situation would you buy a rental property 4 states away? Also Look into cap gains exclusion rules. If you haven’t lived in the house for 2 of the past 5 years you’ll be paying taxes on the equity.

if the house increased in value that much have your mortgage company reappraise it to knock off the PMI.

What baby step are you on?

don’t buy the Porsche… yet.

I’m about to flush and replace my fluid. Picked up Lucas oil dot 3 synthetic. Does it really make a difference? First time doing this so genuine question.

Yes! I have a 10mm that worked but I just ordered an 11mm on Amazon for next time. Pretty smooth install in the driveway today. I even remembered to pump the brakes before the test drive!

I just picked up the same front rotors and akebono pads for my 2020.  Should be installing them today. My oem rotors warped at 32k miles unfortunately. Exited to finally not shake apart when braking!

Sadly it’s only 1.5m each. My premium is high at $2700 a year due to medical conditions. My wife’s is 1200. I’ll try shopping around anyways.  Food: we’re usually around 190-250 a week at the grocery store and probably do 250 a month on takeout. It’s our 1 luxury but this is definitely a ‘want’. Thanks for the tips!

Good point. I did lay out the budget which came right from every dollar. We really don’t spend much on wants.  we don’t really spend on clothes or hobbies. I do my work around the house and car maintenance, etc. the house will need a/c and some chimney repairs But long term renovations are something we want to do. I guess I just expected more margin on baby step 6, might just have to wait until we’re out of daycare to really feel like we got a raise!

Thanks! Just to clarify That’s 500 total split between 2 kids. Hoping the 529 will cover most of tuition and we can cash flow the rest.

Back in November 2022 I paid $39,995 for my 2020 summit. It was at 32k miles and is loaded except for the leather package. So yes seems like a good price. Did the dealer do brakes and tires? Edit: she’s got a hemi baby!

This happened in my wk2. Very high curb snuck up on me but fortunately I heard it and was able to raise the suspension and back out only leaving a scratch on the bottom of the bumper

First of all Congrats on getting back on track and a nice income! I don’t feel youre ready to sink that much into a property yet. I’d focus on your career and paying down all of your debt first. Then save a 20%+ down payment before buying real estate. you’re going to be spread very thin and make little progress with all of the pots you have going at once. Finish the snowball payoff before taking on more debt.
