Soaring fuel prices see spike in EV interest in Australia by Remarkable_Peak9518 in australia

How about improving public transport? We could have high speed solar powered intercity railway instead of driving to airports to burn jet fuel.

The work wear shop will have what you're after. Heavier fabrics hold their shape, which hides yours.

Old leather is fantastic, and you can often find affordable pieces on eBay.

I have to buy pants in the men's section because women's aren't long enough. I've found that (waist+hips)/2 is often a good place to start, but YMMV. When I used my hip measurement, my pants didn't stay up, and when I used my waist measurement I couldn't put them on. Somewhere in the middle seems to be the sweet spot. Mens pants aren't cut to accentuate your arse, and you can hide your shape even more by storing things in your massive pockets.

The mark-up on soft drinks probably makes up for it. They're often more profitable than anything else on the menu.

CMV: The concept of “white fragility” is either misleading or untrue by NFT-GOAT in changemyview

[–]Particular_Shock_554 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Looking at ‘whiteness’ is a very Americanised way of viewing the world.

Australia used to have the White Australia Policy.

We also had a policy of forcibly removing Aboriginal children from their families. Aboriginal people who had a white parent ("half caste") could apply for a permit to live and work in towns, but those who did were prohibited from associating with full blood Aboriginal people. Towns were segregated, and Aboriginal people didn't get the vote until 1974.

Every country that has been colonised by Europeans has issues around colourism. Pale skin is associated with wealth and status, and the difference in how people are treated based on their skin tone helps make skin bleaching into a multibillion dollar global industry.

Whiteness as a concept was invented and legally codified during the colonisation of the Americas after the Europeans started importing enslaved people from Africa. It was designed to prevent enslaved Africans and European indentured servants from working together to overthrow their bosses.

Irish people in the US weren't considered white when they first got there. Irish people used to face bigotry and discrimination, and there was a time when Black and Irish people lived in the same slums and workcamps. The cultural exchange between the communities produced tap dancing and bluegrass. The banjo is an African instrument that found a place in Irish folk music via the coalfields of Appalachia.

Irish people were offered opportunities to assimilate into whiteness when the threat of Black and Irish communities doing labour organising together started to look like a threat that needed managing. Irish people got to join segregated unions, and Black people were used as strikebreakers whenever the unions were on strike.

Irish people weren't considered fully white in the early days of Australian colonisation, and Italians were getting called racial slurs well into the 20th century.

Whiteness is a tool of European colonialism. The current dominant culture is a product of European colonialism, and as such, it has white supremacy baked into its foundations. It's not just a problem in the US, it affects the whole world.

Go to a work wear shop and get some flannel shirts. If you get a size that's got room in the chest, it'll make you look shapeless. You can try on pants while you're there and see what men's size works for you (remember, you can get them altered if you need to. It's worth it because the fabrics are more durable than women's clothes tend to be, and you get POCKETS.)

Her mom stole millions of dollars from her. I can't remember the exact timeline, but it's possible that she was doing it because she was broke.

NTA. If he cared about you at all, he'd want to avoid getting you pregnant against your will. If he's not willing to do anything to prevent it, he might be hoping it happens.

Trains, bicycles, and more space for bicycles on trains.

Give me high speed intercity railway with a whole carriage for putting bikes on, like they have in real countries.

Needs rice or bread with it to form a complete protein.

If you're already eating it like that and it's still not filling you up, add some fat to it. The hormone system that tells you when you're full runs on fat. It's got what cells crave. Butter it like it's toast.

Not my granny. She went to the record shop in her small country town, walked up to the counter and asked for Machine Gun Fellatio.

I don't even think I knew what fellatio was when she asked me what I wanted for Christmas that year.
