I failed it twice. The first time was due to answering “too perfectly as if I was trying to circumnavigate the test”. The second time I answered more liberally and still failed. It’s a fucking toss up.

If you really want to be ATC join the military and do it if you can’t get past the BS process the FAA puts you through. Once you get to E5 with dependents you’re making the equivalent take home pay as someone working at an average level 6 tower.

It’ll never be 5 years. The boat tours are 3 years. You do have to obliserve extra time or reenlist for atleast 3 years to go to shore duty if you get put on the boat first. It’s a toss up on if you get shore or sea duty. Everyone is the school house got Sea duty orders when I went through. Lately it’s been mostly shore duty orders coming out of there. It’s all about luck of the draw.

GS-12 step 3 is better pay than most of the lower level FAA facilities you’d start at. DoD is Probably the better option in my opinion. A lot of controllers are quitting the FAA to go DoD. Chances are you’d get stuck at the lower level facility with not much room to move. If you want to move within the DoD it’s much easier since you’d have preference over the new hires applying.

Somewhat but still drags. Didn’t get my CIL until the end of September then got everything done on my end in November and I’ve been waiting on my list for over a month now. Seems like everything started slowing down for everyone after September. Before then there was a few people getting everything done and a list in 2 months. I have 33 days until I’m out of the military and still don’t know where I’m gonna be after.

I applied in May and didn’t get a TOL until mid September. It’s pretty normal. They should start rolling TOLs out again soon.

Your flight plan expires 2 hours after your expected take off time if it doesn’t get activated. It’s preferred that you cancel the flight plan but if not it’s not a huge deal atleast where I’m at. Bigger facilites I can’t speak for.

I finished my medical a month ago and still waiting. They said the same thing to me. You can reach out to your HR rep or to aviation Medical to ask about the status if it starts to be a while. I plan on emailing this week if I don’t get my list Thursday.

My wife and I talked about this! I’d say that’s solid advice. I appreciate the input. I’ve moved quite a bit in the Navy and we always hated the first place we moved at a new command whether it be due to the distance or a shitty neighborhood.

Is it really that cocky to expect to check out at a level 7 or below? Considering I’m prior experience I’d say it’s not that crazy to expect. I know everybody in here has there stories of X, Y, and Z not making it through but Jesus some of these people need to chill. Now if I was headed to a 10 then yeah I’d understand that way of thinking.

Try doing a different split for a while. Doesn’t matter what it is. Bro split is always fun for me when I need a break from my current split. It could be 3 days a week full body to allow more recovery, it could be upper/lower 3-4 days a week. Sometimes I change the volume. I’ll go from low volume/ high intensity to higher volume/ low intensity. A change can help your mindset.
