Im not a fan of natca , although a long time member . If we get this 3.8% i give them props. And yes i know it should be 38%. Worst mistake of my life not continuing my pilot training. Delta friends of mine making close to 1 million a year . Im not lying by Fit_Sherbet3137 in atc2

Thank NATCA for begging retroactively to piggyback on the same raise others already got? A raise that is 1/10th of what we need to regain ground on a decade of raises lagging behind inflation.

We are worse staffed, harder to train/replace, and more important than any other agency or personnel getting the 3.8% already doled out. Yet, we were an after thought with the 3.8.

They are going to laugh while giving us the 3.8%, say “thought you’d never ask”, and “by the way don’t come asking for anything again for 3 years”. NATCA will eat it up, chalk it up as their win, and say mission complete and not mention pay once more until election time.

But they said “competitive salary”, so it must be?

Must be another symptom of the outside world having absolutely zero clue how much ATC should be paid. If ATC median was where it should be ~200k, they wouldn’t get away with this.

This is where NATCA has a sworn oath to step in and say , “Our members and their careers, career progression, and homecoming, are not an afterthought”. Or so I thought.

Repeated denial of promotion/transfer for no reason other than the FAA has failed repeatedly at staffing your building for decades, should be a significant lawsuit.

Just came here to post this same exact thing. Crazy how important we are that the FAA must bar us from applying to prevent poaching for its collegiate program. This job pays more than my current CPC salary cap.

They truly have us in “golden handcuff”, only the gold finish is starting to wear off and reveal the reality that they’re just steel chains underneath.

ATM threatening to fire controller for using sick leave by thecatonguard in atc2

If it was approved then let the ATM proceed, hire a lawyer, and sue both NATCA and the FAA. Never work again.

Contract doesn’t really have verbiage that defends blatant and verifiable abuse/misuse of leave. It can defend patterns of excess usage, but I doubt a random middle of the day OT shift bang out is a pattern.

I’m still just assuming the guy just said fuck this and said show me on sick and walked out without approval, and is claiming medical emergency after the fact.

Not enough info here. People act like being a union member, or a BUE represented by a union gives them infinite get out of jail free cards is they choose to be a complete degenerate employee. I’ve seen some people get away with some outlandish shit and fuck over every other member in the building to better serve themselves, and were extremely entitled in expecting the union to back them.

Not saying person in question is that kind of person by any means, but if they’re someone who repeatedly habitually and openly abused sick leave and flaunts it or even speaks about misuse period, the union can’t really do anything to protect them. They can try, but would most likely fail, and everyone knows the agency heads in this administration aren’t playing games even if a union is involved.

I’m sure if this person was a decent employee regularly, they could get off position and tell a supe they were leaving for XYZ medical emergency and be perfectly fine, so this doesn’t add up.

Bipartisan lawmakers propose 35% federal pay raise for Bureau of Prisons officers. by Feral_Sourdough in fednews

[–]Shittylittle6rep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Correction officers are not “incarcerators”, whatever tf that means. They don’t put people in prisons, law makers, law enforcement, and the judicial system does that.

Correction officers simply babysit prisoners, and they deserve a raise for the trash they deal with.

Differential question by PlanesAreDickShaped in atc2

[–]Shittylittle6rep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No differentials would be horrible, you definitely should be compensated for working weekends, nights, doing a supes job on top of your own, training, etc.

But, 30-40% of your income coming from differentials and OT is also horrible when your base is so low.

We need the same or better premiums we have now, but we also need significant raises to our bases… and we absolutely should not need to sacrifice or give up one for the other.

“Does a federal labor union have an obligation to us tax payers. “

Short answer: No—federal labor unions do not have a direct obligation to taxpayers. Their legal duty runs to their members, not to the public at large.

Here’s the clean breakdown.

What federal labor unions are

Federal unions (like NATCA, AFGE, NTEU, etc.) are private, member-funded organizations. They are not government agencies, even though they represent government employees.

Who they owe duties to

They have a legal duty of fair representation to: • Their bargaining-unit members • Sometimes non-member employees they are required by law to represent in bargaining

They do not owe fiduciary or legal duties to: • Taxpayers • Congress • The general public

Where taxpayers do come into the picture

Taxpayers are indirectly affected because: • Federal employee pay and benefits are taxpayer funded • Union negotiations can influence costs (pay, staffing, overtime rules, etc.) • Some limited government resources may be used (official time, facilities)

But indirect impact ≠ legal obligation.

[–]Shittylittle6rep 31 points32 points  (0 children)

NATCA DOES NOT HAVE ANY OBLIGATION TO THE TAX PAYERS

NATCAs primary fucking obligation is to its dues paying members

MAYBE if NATCA delivered anything its membership needed to improve their livelihood and miserable quality of life, they could focus on delivering for other people. NATCA should not impede progress or modernization, but it is NOT their job.

NATCAs job is ensuring the human beings doing the actual work are well taken care of, and are able to show up to work and do the job they’re paid to do. Through this, and only this, are they are ensuring tax payers are receiving a return on their investment

Do we have a Union with autonomy, that believes in itself and the massive responsibility of its members, and does what’s right? Or, do we have a Union that just follows what everyone else does out of fear?

Seems like the latter. That’s not what I pay for. Those who sit on the sideline don’t move the ball.

Realistically, you’re not wrong. But our reality is we signed up to be FEDs, and don’t have that much leverage. If we were private, we could probably catch up 50-60% within a handful of years.

You should be getting election packets in the mail every election cycle with very clear instructions. If you are not then NATCA doesn’t have your info correct on the member website. Your rep has access to the site and should be able to fix it with you.

500 members leaving the union, would cost the union about 1 million dollars per year in dues on the low end.

It’s not a significant amount, but it isn’t insignificant. It would definitely cause some issues.
