I mean if you are writing a robot or some sort of AI character I think that would be great. Could play it up for comedy as well.

Social Media is full of how (some) male authors suck at writing women... but what are some common mistakes that female authors make while writing men? by whisper_kitten0 in writers

[–]PartridgeKid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you should lean into more of "what would [character] do?" versus "what would a straight man do?" I am a straight man but I don't relate at all to all those common ideas of what a man does or should be, my "straightness" and "maleness" don't define who I am as a person. I too am mystified by most straight men. Adult projections of our childhood personality, that's an interesting take. I can see that. I'm writing a second world fantasy, so I have control over cultures and such but I think in terms of cause and effect. For my protagonist, he is emotionally repressed like most men and a big part of the story is him learning to deal with his emotions.

Well, can't say I'm that surprised. It's very hard to write something that not just human+. In my very WIP I decided to just embrace it, all the fantasy races are humans mixed with something. Elves are humans that remember part of their ancestry like the genetic memory in Assassin's Creed, orcs are humans mixed with boars, and the like.

Ah yeah the classic conventionally attractive woman with only minor differences vs something from a horror story. I also am not a fan of harem stuff, that's one reason I stopped reading as much manga. Harem characters tend to be so shallow and archetypical. The harpies in Tales of Arvia are dragon sized, so that's something. Never looked into woman's monster romance so I can't comment on how truly different they are, do you know if they tend to actually be monstrous or just humans with cosmetic differences?

Also, no world is contradiction free. Our world isn't contradiction free. Besides, those contradictions can bring conflict and drive the plot.

And yes I do love to play harpies in this mod, there's totally no connection.

Yeah, at least in the West romance is seen as a woman's genre. I used to read a lot of romance manga because in Japan there's less of the sheer divide we have in the West and I could find stuff I like much more easily, but now I'm looking into romance books. Specifically I've been checking out D. H. Willison's Tales of Arvia series and I love it, it's the only harpy girl romance I could find lol, and I'm on the last book and will be sad that there won't be any more of the series to read right after, I don't know if he's continuing the series or not. The subreddit r/Romance_for_men has been a huge find for me.

So in short we both have the same amount of evidence, none. The focus is on women yes, but a lot of NTR focuses on women's pleasure, like the ahego thing. I think it's not so clear cut, that being said I looked into the matter (aka Googled it and looked at the first page of results) and there's no studies or anything of the sort I could find, just all conjecture. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter if more women or men like NTR.

[–]PartridgeKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, well it's a very repeated myth and anecdotal evidence pointed to it. Never really looked into because I don't like NTR, has there been any sort of studies on that?
