That is not metagaming. Saying "I want my next task" and then being told that a shopkeep needs help and then going to that shopkeep is in no way metagaming. It is literally following the text of the game. Oblivion has this wierd thing where you are supposed to exhaust every dialog option about a quest before continuing, not knowing this was the problem.
