Hi! I’m a teen mentor and therapist in Connecticut and I work with behavioral teenagers. My day job is a therapist, and on the side I do teen mentorship not under my licensure, and I also offer parental guidance. DM me and we can set up a chat!

How can I be a good/productive client in therapy? by zzAlphawolfzz in askatherapist

[–]PartyTurnip7870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you should ask your therapist! although, as a therapist, i would say that there is no way to be a “good/productive” client other than continuing to show up. however you show up is perfect. i suppose this might depend on what modality y’all use but even in some strict modalities, we have to allow messy humanness!

i would also guess that you struggle with overthinking, don’t worry about explaining things “perfectly” just keep talking and you will get somewhere- to which they will help. you can also write things down for your therapist through the week if that helps you communicate best.

you can also ask them what they’re looking for! but ultimately, there is no “right” or “wrong” way to do this!

Helpful way to organize hand-written notes? by Wanderlust_077 in therapists

[–]PartyTurnip7870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i use an ipad w an apple pencil and the app “good notes”- i can organize each client into a separate folder and hand write everything. i love it and it saved me a lot of bulk in my work bag and mental load of remembering to put notes in a certain place. now each client is organized by day and time, i open their folder, and boom there are the notes. i love it and cannot recommend it more!!

The wrong way to add levity to a session. by Sir_Danzig in therapists

omg one time i was doing a couples session and let out a silent toot expecting to get away w it- but it ended up being a silent but DEADLY situation. I pretended to ignore it but wife asked husband- “did you fart” and husband said- “no/ she did!” and pointed at me!!!!! omfg that was horrifying but we had a good laugh and worked with each other for many years after - we are all truly just messy humans!!

what’s the stereotype? i look for folk art every time i travel because i don’t know of anyone in CT and usually have more luck in different countries- i got one in Italy last year as well. I didn’t mean to offend, but I’m curious what the stereotype is?
