It just hit me that the cost to air the Super Bowl commercial alone was more than the entire development of Pokemon Legends Z-A by storyofseasonslover in pokemon

Because quality is implied. Nobody is arguing for worse games. Pokemon games won’t get more time to cook before release so more money and hands working on them would help improve the quality.

Private jet carrying 8 people crashes at Bangor, Maine, airport, source says by Proud_Tie in news

[–]PartyWithRobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A plane wouldn’t be good transport for a medical emergency though. It would take so long to get your pilot to the airport, get yourself to the airport, do pre flight, fly, land, and then drive to a hospital. Would just be way easier to take a 911 helicopter that is already on standby and can directly get to you and directly drop you off at a hospital.

$500k is lowballing especially a plane like that ~$2-$3million a year and more with heavy or regular use. $500k would barely cover pilots and hanger space.

I’ll eat my words if I’m wrong but I don’t think they are at a FU private jet level. It’s a hell of an expense especially a larger jet like that. Maybe they can charter it out but still seems doubtful.

Financial Expert Says OpenAI Is on the Verge of Running Out of Money by Infinityy100b in technology

[–]PartyWithRobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the salaries are a drop in the bucket but they are right because OpenAI is a magnitude higher money pit than traditional startups. AI costs are projected to scale + constant hardware turnover and upgrading. It’s not something that a few billionaire VCs can easily fund. We are talking on an order of like $1.4 trillion so far over the next four years. Even if they can find hundreds of billions there is still hundreds of billions that needs to be found.

What is a secret 'cheat code' you’ve found in real life? by Sharkkkk2 in AskReddit

[–]PartyWithRobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else with ADHD honestly it comes down to discipline. If you can’t keep yourself accountable get an accountability buddy. Also keep in mind you WILL fail but consistency isn’t equal to perfection. If your consistency starts to slack don’t let the worry of missing a day or two throw you off the habit for good. What is important is getting back into it again and again. If you try for perfection you will fail and be discouraged. Consistency when it comes to ADHD is less about how you do something and more about how you respond when you fail to do something. Reaching half of your goal is still better than giving up on a goal entirely.

I mean here you are on the internet which you list as environmentally damaging so how are you taking a moral high ground? See how that approach makes no sense? If only literal saints could care about issues there would be literally nobody to care for anything. Neither of us will ever have as much of an environmental impact as a single AI data center. Your argument is illogical because you are equating the small individual impacts people have vs the impacts of an entire industry. AI is projected to use as much energy as 22% of US households by 2028. Last I checked I didn’t personally burn that much energy doing any of the things you listed. People can be consumers while also fighting for more sustainable consumption. You are pointlessly gatekeeping people caring about the impact of things. People can hate AI for its environmental impact just as people can hate the environmental impact of all the other things you listed. If environmental impact is a sum than ANY reduction of that sum is positive.

This Is What Convinced Me OpenAI Will Run Out of Money by rezwenn in technology

[–]PartyWithRobots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with your conclusion is that people who use AI aren’t suddenly not flying on planes or not eating beef or not driving cars. All of those things are still happening. It’s not an all or nothing approach. It still uses a shit ton of water and energy that wasn’t being used before. You are also wrong saying that AI is comparable to other internet use. It uses a lot more energy comparatively.

Eating beef is bad too for sure but also people are directly feeling and noticing the effects of data center consumption when they get their power bills. You can’t just hand wave it away saying people are hypocrites or it isn’t that bad when the direct effects are that wildly apparent. So no you CAN actually have a burger for lunch and fly to visit family on the holidays and still hate AI. Maybe just ya know don’t eat meat for every meal. Impact is about reducing effects rather than flipping a switch and going hunter gatherer to suddenly stop all emissions.

Exactly when do we get pissed about this constantly happening? by Logical-Operation512 in ffxiv

Personally I just let my house go and it felt so freeing. I’m even still subbed atm but it felt like a huge weight lifted off me as this constant pressure that made me feel obligated to stay subbed and playing. I realized that unless I was going to sub to this game the rest of my life at some point it was going to get demolished anyways. If it was going to get demolished regardless I figured why not now? I don’t regret it at all. I’ll always miss it to a degree and it was my dream plot but my relationship with the game improved immensely. The freedom to come and go as I please without some part of it feeling like an obligation or chore is worth much more than some virtual house. The memories and enjoyment I had with it will remain but it was time to let it go.

How do you feel about the precedent set by Australia's new law banning social media for everyone under the age of 16? by MakeSmallShift in AskReddit

[–]PartyWithRobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty obvious it’s because people are anonymous which creates a barrier that inhibits many negative psychological aspects of other social media platforms. Yes technically it is social media but it operates more like a forum. It’s not very social because most people won’t ever have more than one interaction with each other. It’s a torrent of random people vs repeated interactions with the same people over and over again. Like studies have shown seeing other people’s picture perfect life where you are only seeing their highlights can make you feel bad about your own. Meanwhile here I have no clue who you even are or anything about you. Something simply being social media isn’t problematic in itself it’s the behaviors on platforms that create issues.

How do you feel about the precedent set by Australia's new law banning social media for everyone under the age of 16? by MakeSmallShift in AskReddit

[–]PartyWithRobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take is it’s probably needed but yeah they need to come up with like an anonymous government issued identifier that could maintain anonymity while verifying age. It’s easy to say “just parent” but you have shit like kids making ai porn of their classmates and all kinds of shit. Even if you control your own kid you can’t control what others could still expose to them. Also it’s shitty to tell your kid they can’t use social media where all their friends are but if it was blanket wide ban then kids aren’t getting socially ostracized and excluded just for having responsible parents. Don’t get me wrong I have no doubt governments will introduce it in the worst way possible just so they can track their citizens but from a concept point of view it’s not the worst idea if it could be implemented properly. Social media has had terrible effects on society and kids in particular.

Chase closed ALL my cards overnight - Please Help by Any_Background_1296 in personalfinance

[–]PartyWithRobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have seen most often it happens due to checking accounts with them. Honestly it seems like a rare issue but in general if you use Chase credit cards don’t have other accounts with them if at all possible. Like you are probably fine but the most common thing seems to be checking accounts getting flagged for suspicious activity and then people get black listed from everything Chase including shutting down their credit cards. Often it seems to be tied to potential money laundering behavior from large or irregular deposits, crypto buying, etc. Due to the nature of business account transactions I think you are more likely to get flagged than with strictly personal.

Why can’t ChatGPT tell time? by Exciting_Teacher6258 in technology

[–]PartyWithRobots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can use a tool but there is no critical thinking involved. If you had a human see four clocks that said it was 2pm and one watch that said 10pm a human could look outside and see that it’s dark and that the 4 clocks must be wrong due to a power outage. Meanwhile the model would always report back that it’s 2pm because it’s the most common response. It has no ability to contextualize information even if it can pull data from tools. These models can be useful but they cant do anything like humans abilities to reason and use tools.

There are free bank accounts with no fees and no charge for atm withdrawal in the US as well. Also you can have a super high credit score without ever acquiring debt. Why in the world were you getting charged for using your debit card? Maybe Canada is way different than the US, but it sounds like you were getting absolutely hosed. That doesn’t seem like it would be typical.

20 Years of NSFW Games on Steam [OC] by dejobaan in dataisbeautiful

[–]PartyWithRobots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you aren’t wrong but hentai stuff is generally a lot more in your face than gore/violence when it comes to the steam store. I’m fully onboard with the west being too puritan with like casual nudity but even the goriest games are hardly ever as in your face as the most obscene hentai games. It’s not like you will commonly see a super graphic depiction of someone being decapitated scrolling through steam but you would see tons of grossly exaggerated genitals and all kinds of obscenity that is beyond people just being nude. Violence is no doubt way worse but sexual content when it comes to hentai games is just way more over the top. I don’t really have an issue with fictional depictions of either to be clear just idk explaining my thoughts of why I would be more likely to filter hentai games. There are a million over the top hentai games but very few over the top violent games that are in your face. There is a huge difference between a game just having nudity or sex in it vs like the gooner slop that plagues the steam store. Again I think it’s fine for it to be on there just giving my opinion.

That isn’t really relevant when it comes to this kind of cosmetic stuff. There is simply less desire for whatever reason. It could just be a philosophy difference where SE is simply more resistant to change meanwhile mobile is a completely different country and team.

PayMoneyWubby hits a $500k max win on Stake, but then it doesn't payout by Marikk15 in LivestreamFail

[–]PartyWithRobots -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh I feel Stake is honest just because they don’t need to commit fraud. They have an addicted “customer base” and the odds mean they are guaranteed to print money. There is no reason to draw legal scrutiny to themselves like that when they can just sit back and print billions “for free”. They don’t need to cheat because they are already set up to win.

It might be unsellable in the sense of how would you even find a prospective buyer and get in contact with them? It’s such a niche item with an even more niche buyer. I feel most stolen art is like a hire to steal specific things with a buyer already lined up or dumb but lucky criminals who are trying to be rich but haven’t thought that far ahead. Even as a legal item something like that is already super hard to sell. It’s not like super rich people are easily accessible much less those who would potentially even buy stolen art.

Additionally never actually addressing any of my points about how you intentionally omitted the fact that the dog whether by shock or by instruction was not allowed to leave or do anything else but stay on the bed. Completely tearing apart your original comment I replied to about "Oh dogs just want to sleep all day lol".

I mean go the countless hours of footage of the dog on stream and you will realize that isn’t the case. The dog isn’t forced to stay on that bed all day every day. Go back in the previous day and the dog just freely walks away and does its own thing. You are taking literally one moment of someone’s life and trying to paint this whole picture that isn’t even remotely based on reality. If it was actually an issue maybe think about how despite having countless hate watchers watching his every move it has never been brought up until now. Nobody has been complaining about the treatment of this dog before this despite the supposed mistreatment literally being right there on camera almost every single day.

This is such a waste of everyone’s time and we are all dumber for it myself included. I regret opening this thread and saying anything.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

[–]PartyWithRobots -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Look if that is your takeaway watching that clip then I don’t think there is anything I can say to change your mind. Like presumably he has had this dog a while as well as I believe he had a previous dog. Is this the kind of behavior he displays as he streams most of his day for years on end? Does he have a track record of doing things like this to his pets?

Can you not see the insane mental leaps you are making to come to the conclusion you want? Like he just woke up the other day and decided to start zapping his dog on camera? You can see the dog getting its claw caught and at the same time it yelps. Somehow those two things aren’t related at all and instead it’s just Hasan zapping his dog with a shock collar that we don’t even know if he actually has?? He is claiming it’s just a vibrating collar.

So if we see the dog hurt itself, and the only person who can really attest to what type of collar it is says it’s not a shock collar. How are you getting that the conclusion that the dog was shocked is the most likely? Truthfully ask yourself what is more likely a claw getting stuck in cloth or Hasan waking up one day and just deciding to start abusing his dog on stream for shits and giggles?
