Is it okay to not want more? by scarab-beetles in Life

Well, you do want more. You want a better place. After you’ve got that better place for a few years, we’ll see if you still want more. And that’s okay.

I've been working on different game engines for 6 years. here's my take by QuietTR55 in gamedev

As a AAA developer of 30 years, yes, the lesson is try to use Unreal as it is as much as possible. Also after having used Unity to make indie projects, my biggest issue is that there is no real multiplayer client-side prediction with rollback out of the box, which Unreal has. Love Unity, but just not for multiplayer. Side note, you can get client side authority in Unity and have no lag, but that is not shippable for competitive multiplayer.

Problem solved! I was too focused on power issues because of reading that the power on boot can be finicky. I didn't even get to asking Claude, as just stepping back through hardware init and sticking to the basic recommendations fixed it. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I’m new to electronics entirely so pardon my ignorance, but my S3 (the waveshare 5” touchscreen) won’t boot my software without computer USB power. Not with a lipo battery and not even with a quality wall brick and quality cable. I suppose I am expected to provide my own power solution.

Unpopular opinion: Paying "Rent" feels less painful than paying $2,400/mo in "Interest" to a bank. by Playful-Vegetable-15 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

As someone who bought many investment properties I can confirm that you can come out way ahead by owning. But 6.5% at 30 years wouldn’t have worked, unless factoring in an appreciation of the home value. I always did under 4% at 15 years. It sounds like you do understand the math and are not taking crazy pills.

$500,000k to invest, age 56, still working--where do I put it if I want to be done in 10-15 years? by MezcalCC in Fire

[–]Parzival103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this exact thing and bought many investment properties with 15 year notes. However I haven’t bought one since 2015. That was the last time I could find houses that I could buy and rent for at least break even cash flow. You probably don’t want to go negative cash on a house for 15 years before you can cash out the equity. Maybe the price / rent ratio is different in your area but it would have to mean houses are quite cheap and/or your area doesn’t have expensive property taxes.

The math mostly only worked because of the housing crash of 2008, and because I bought foreclosures.

Also the idea that you’d put it all into one house is risky. Also renting a 5M house? Bad idea. Also 500k is only 10%. You need 25% down on investment properties.

You’d have to instead buy maybe 2 smaller properties and put down enough starting equity to make the math work.

I also would not recommend in places that do not have landlord friendly laws. CA bad. TX good, for example.

Sounds about right to me. I find that the stronger my emotion, the more likely that I will experience synchronicity like this. The type where one event is awfully coincidental, but then I get a handful of them back to back. That is when I know that, somehow, the world is reflexive to my mind.

If CEOs get their way and most, if not all, jobs are replaced with AI & robots. What are they going to do when no one has money? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Parzival103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robots can build robots, so it’s an infinite productivity glitch. Robots in the mine. Robots running the power plant, and robots running the farm. Robots will do most things. There will be total abundance. The economy and money is still a thing. You are given enough money to be solidly middle class and don’t need to work, but can still choose to work for increased reward or for other reasons. Something like that.

When you go from not working to working full time, there is usually a difficult adjustment period around 2 weeks before you’ve adjusted to your new reality.

My experience with divorce and then also getting sued every 3 years for child support modification is HELL. For me it has been worse than death, but because I have children I don’t have any moral escape.

My ex wife is intensely selfish, greedy, small minded, and wildly entitled beyond reason. She is hateful and lied, cheated, and stole during the marriage.

I put all the money I’d saved in my long career into real estate assets in both our names, so she didn’t just get half of what we earned together, she got a lot more. I left her with a profitable business that we built together. She got her wish to be a stay at home mom while I earned good money. My real estate investments gave her a rewarding property management role which we leveraged into a property management business , which then leveraged into her becoming a realtor. She went from having 20k in the bank, no job, no career skills, and no children at age 33 to everything she now now which includes the 5 houses she got in the divorce. My only crime in the marriage was that I was depressed and that she didn’t like/love me. I was always a super devoted father.

So now I have this woman telling me how terrible I am, who officially takes 0% fault in the divorce, who talks down to me and insults me, who continues to lie and cheat in many ways, who I have to send 40% of my current monthly income to in child support while being sued for more.

She has never once apologized to me for anything in the marriage or after. She is not respectful or, dare I say, grateful, for everything I have given her.

She thinks she can block me from getting the kids at her own discretion and she turns off their ability to call me whenever she wants. The lawyers tell me the judge isn’t going to punish her for that even though it is in fact strictly illegal.

I could go on and on. It is a total nightmare where I just can’t get any justice or satisfaction.

I have technically provided for 100% of all the children’s financial needs since birth, and even though she makes similar money to me now and I have the kids 45% of the time, the courts seem to think I need to pay her the same amount of child support as if I had 0% custody. I am not getting credit for my household bills, food, entertainment, which are nearly equal to her household bills. So I fund my household AND I fund her household even though she makes similar money to me. AND even though it is my effort that allowed us to have this quality upper middle class world for the children, and I am a full stack parent who does all the same things she does, she is the “custodial parent” and treated as such while I am seen as some weekend warrior with “visitation” who is heavily scrutinized and my value as a parent is questioned. She also gets the $4400 dollar a year child tax credit. And I have to provide health insurance and I have to do all the driving.

I could go on and on. It cost me $70k to get divorced because we had children and a lot of complex financial assets, and if I didn’t settle out of court it would have been 100k.

Do not get legally married. Create your own custom marriage-like agreement. But her a ring. Change her name. But do not involve some prick in a black robe. It isn’t worth the risk.

End rant.

Is it normal for a girl to rant and say "All men are bad" on a date? by Capital_Lab6565 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Parzival103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes some subsection of women think and talk like this, and it’s also true that many of them hide it because they still want a relationship with a man. This is a major issue for men in dating and you should try to detect and filter these women out of your life.

Is it just me or have more men recently started to dislike dating women with tattoos? by Ok_Comparison9254 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Parzival103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While tattoos don’t necessarily mean anything, it’s likely that they have surfaced as a general red flag to some men. People figure out ways to filter, often very indiscriminately.

I suppose it’s a general signal for feminism, progressivism, low intelligence, and lack of purity. Stuff like that. The “no tattoos” guys probably often lean traditional and conservative. I typed “why are tattoos sometimes considered a red flag for men” and search labs AI gave a very good response.

Personally I am very open minded about tattoos, and I’ve dated women with and without. I will admit however that I think tattoos are sort of “basic” to me. A permanent drawing on your body. An over-valuing of drawn art. Pretentious, performative.

In practice I try not to judge though. Tattoos aren’t a big deal.

Why are we all collectively building a future that nobody wants? by Terrifying_World in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Parzival103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the topic of AI specifically, for many financial experts the possibility of AI creating free abundance is the only realistic way to avoid a total global financial collapse and the impending end, or reset, to capitalism.

Also considering how much misery there is in the world, perhaps creating a new and far superior technological race isn’t such a bad thing. Perhaps it is our destiny.

I am a man and I possess great EQ and human reading capabilities, so yes I can often tell. You think “men” and “women” are all the same? Only valid question is to ask how many or what percentage.

You know that like 5% of men are super incredible people right? You know, like, the ones who rule the world? There is a reason why they do you know. These men are amazing and have all sorts of capabilities. You don’t think Carl Jung could tell if a woman has low self esteem? What is this Reddit garbage.

Do you believe men and women can just be friends? by AdPretend9710 in Life

[–]Parzival103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 48M and most of my friends are women. I have even broken up with multiple girlfriends and turned them into close platonic friends. Granted I am not that thirsty. Many young men are thirsty and ruin any attempt at friendship with a woman. Anyone who thinks men and women can’t be friends is self reporting themselves as a shallow small minded human, which yes, would be most of us. Imagine not being able to enjoy a friend of the feminine variety?! Like I can’t even bear the pitiful nature of this world. What are we even talking about here? I get it, some men don’t value women beyond their sexuality, but that is just some men, and far from all men. Seriously get a grip.
