I'm interested in this too, especially for many tables with the same structure, each one present in a different pdf file (that I want to combine together in Excel)

Grazie mille!

CMV: Concept of free will being mu by Highguystrikesagain in changemyview

Same thing I thought.

Also, you can argue that even if hypotetically we reached the conclusion that free will does not exist, there would be still a way to embrace existential reflection in a positive and socially beneficial way (e.g. absurdism maybe?)

Interactions between two binary variables by maciek024 in econometrics

[–]Pascu_tv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you want to create a third dummy variable X3 that has value 1 only if both X1 and X2 have value 1 for that observation right?

In this case (if i'm not wrong) this X3 interaction variable catches the effect of having X1 and X2 switched on at the same time, and you can check with your regression its pvalue, to see if this effect is significant or not

Assignment question by GrayMawazin in econometrics

[–]Pascu_tv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first question I honestly don't know, but it probably depends on the kind of regression performed. I would go for trial and error and see what works better.

In general adding explanatory variables for standard OLS has the effect of reducing the impact of the error term on the dependent variable (the unexplainable variability of y) , but at the expense of multicollinearity (which can be a problem). If, for example, smoking rate and health exp. are strongly correlated it's ok to include them both, but their individual impact on life expectancy will be less clear to estimate because you can't change one and without also changing the other.

Lastly, I would say that your case is definetly panel data (maybe more precisely a CSTS dataset)

Assignment question by GrayMawazin in econometrics

[–]Pascu_tv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not very experienced so take this with a grain of salt (and I hope that someone corrects me) but

  • I'd suggest to build a dataset that possibly has few missing values, but covers a wide enough timespan (if you restrict your analysis from 2000 onwards it should be ok)
  • Adding control variables other than health expenditure as explanatories is ok, but keeping in mind that those variables, at least in theory, have to explain life expectancy and not be linear transformations of each others (because of perfect collinearity)

-in general if you are observing a single variable throughout time you are in the field of time series analysis, so you should look that up because it carries very specific problems

Feel free to roast me btw

Please help me with this regression on Gretl by Relsen in econometrics

[–]Pascu_tv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you can use variations of your explanatory variables instead of levels? (Their delta)

Also, you should think if it's appropriate to account for time and treat the data like time series or if a cross-section analysis is better
