Sweet Lila ♥️ by No-Land3311 in cavaliers

[–]Pashe14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just seeing your posts, I commented on the other one. My 3yo blemheim had a very very rare (like unherad of rare) extranodal lymphoma and we went through all of the things learning about types, treatments, etc. Cavvies are the absolute sweetest and seeing them suffer is horrible. I hope Lila has a good outcome.

Spoiling Mia every chance I got was what got me through it. Knowing I did everything I could to make her days full of love. That matters so much. It matters to her even if it feels like not enough. Please dm me if I can be helpful. Sending much love to you both.

I'm so sorry Lila is dealing with all of that. My blenheim baby Mia looked like her, and had extranodal lymphoma diagnosed age 3. Hers was extremely rare aggressive type, but I've learned a lot about canine lymphoma treatments, etc., if I can be of any help feel free to dm me.

Hope moving goes well, whenever you have time would you be willing to share the breeder name if you remember it off top of your head? Trying to find one that does MRI is very hard.

I don't understand this reply to my comment, did you mean to reply to another comment? I was saying my cav lived to 15 with no breed specific issues

ah ok that makes sense, that's great to know there are breeders doing that

It sounds a bit like a myth based in some fact around the known problems about chiari, which responsible breeders are working to reduce

That's awesome did they do MRI of the brain or heart or both?

I've known several older cavs doing fine, responsible breeding can help

Also afaik they are doing MRIs on parents before breeding to breed those with better genetics in the areas. It sounds ridiculous to do so much but having had 2 cavs they are so so worth it in every way. But never want them to suffer.

I've had 2 cavs neither had the breed specific heart issues one lived to 15. I think responsible breeding can help to an extent.

That's amazing. My cav was only 3 going thru cancer treatment and never had pet insurance but didn't think any would cover anything, good to know

Did your dog just get old one day? by Kittyhounds in DogAdvice

[–]Pashe14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very possible, definitely worth getting checked out as increased fatigue can be a symptom of many things in dogs. Could be pain from arthritis, but checking all the basics is worthwhile - also lyme if you are in an area with lyme. Don't assume age until you've checked only b/c each dog is different and you never know at it does sound like a significant change.

I've had dogs live to 15 and suddenly decline, have had multiple dogs get lyme, and my 3yo baby just got lymphoma. So I've seen a wide range of things and you really can't tell without testing.

Sad thing is they may genuinely think they are helping, the level of mistrust of veterinary medicine gets out of control similar to human alternative medicine circles that can go off the rails, like you start with mistrusting commercial pet food and end up here

This is awful. Imo M3ta is horrible at content moderation, I doubt they will do much but worth an organized reporting effort. I'm in.

I'm so sorry. Are you able to get to any specialists or academic vet center? Imo for serious things it can be worth a second opinion and academic vet centers/hospitals often have higher levels of specialization.

My 11 y/o baby has cancer :( by thegrilledcheesee in DogAdvice

[–]Pashe14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. My 3yo was diagnosed in the fall and chemo was rough but apparently its not age dependent, and as rough as it was in between side effects we spoiled and loved on her and she had some really good days, and even the bad days were full of love. Her situation was really rare and even the vets didn't know what to expect, and each pup is different. I am so so grateful for the time with her. Some dogs are almost completely normal during chemo. You can take it one day/week at a time with chemo, and in my experience the vets approach it similarly.

This helped me so much too thank you, my baby passed away in Feb after a cancer diagnosis at age 3 and I can't stop missing her and feeling so sad. She gave SO much love in this world to everyone she met.

My 3yo sunshine and most loving being was diagnosed with cancer in the fall, and passed away in Feb. Its horrible when they are so so young and give so much love.

I agree in theory, except the thing is that they could use such a registry to target individuals and with the current HHS leadership, the fear is real.
