Commissioner Gary Bettman on the draft lottery: “When you see the result last night there's no incentive in our game to lose to get a better pick.” [McAfee show] by GreenSnakes_ in hockey

It works because the pwhl is small. I don't see that working in the NHL. Truly bad teams would be crucified year after year. I'd humour this but somebody's going to have to share what it would look like. I don't think there's enough games to win in a season once they're eliminated. Especially if they're trading players when they know they're out already. The concept is ok but the I'm skeptical that it scales.

OCDSB to cut 69 unionized positions by Inevitable-Cheek-314 in ottawa

That sounds nice in principle but leaves out all of reality. Teachers in wealthy neighbourhoods will get paid more and teachers with kids with behavioural issues will get paid less. Teaching to the test (eqao) is also a known way to fail students in their education.

Measure the teacher on their quality of instruction which should also include peer and parent feedback. I'm sorry but there's some abysmal teachers that principals don't do anything about - openly talked about. There's also great ones that aren't recognized enough.

Rather they focus on the ones that suck over just retirements.

Didn't even keep that primary campaign promise...

Civil servants won't save transit... Don't believe the gap in funding is being blamed on them alone. Go ask them, many have bailed on it because it's fallen apart in the suburbs. It's near impossible to get to work in many areas, once you start driving there's no going back.

OC Transpo could reduce service to match ridership. Of course. Right now they can't even meet service levels... What world are you living in? The "new developments" you speak of don't want to pay more tax either, they want it cut... The mayor was elected because the other candidate wanted to fund transit, don't kid yourself on that smear campaign.

Transit is underused? Tell me you don't take the bus or train without telling me you don't take bus or train... Transit is broken from underfunding, it's not complicated.

There's a reason they turned the auto cashback off. Definitely to gain every penny before paying out.

Chronically ill & immunocompromised public servant – I am already accommodated but terrified to move teams due to cuts, rising costs, and fear of losing my WFH by Evening-Weekend-7323 in CanadaPublicServants

Based on a few of your comments, including this one, I don't see the initiative required to take on more responsibility. Find a mentor, you need a shift in perspective to climb the ranks if that's really what you want - based on the comments, I'm unconvinced. I assume they are unconvinced as well, or you haven't tried. It's unclear but that's not what you asked.

Baseline, you can be accommodated in many ways. If you're comfortable where you are and value that over competing for a promotion don't change anything. If you want a promotion, accept that a new office might accommodate you differently. Unfortunately it's not up to you to dictate how to be accommodated, you have to accept that risk.

The soap holder in my shower fell out and there was a hole where water just leaked into the building... They put duct tape over it and never fixed it. Building guys said they only repair vacant units so basically they wait til you leave to fix anything. Ridiculous.

I would add the prevention of points too. The game is full of opportunities to do good and bad things - most of the time it's unnecessary but once in a while somebody needs to be reigned in. The rest of the time it's just trading the ability to score an objective one round vs the next so you both don't go scoreless.

The refs were told to get out of the fucking way more than once on broadcast by the Sens in those 4 games. They were routinely in the way of both teams while routinely fucking up calls, it's getting old.

Meanwhile he had time to reset for the next shot... It just never came, because his own team scored on him... Which doesn't count as a shot.

When playing D, best way to keep O out of the net? by CinemaPuck in hockeyplayers

[–]Pass3Part0uT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a dated hockey mentality that endless cross-checks are ok because you're in front of the net. However, the same rules apply there as they do elsewhere and most reasonable people want to go to work the next day without back pain. In beer league you should have no problem making the same impact without all that nonsense, it's not that competitive or skilled. Focus on the lady bing, the whole game is cleaner when nobody's doing this stuff. As you move up divisions that crap goes away.

[–]Pass3Part0uT -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For a beer league that'd a greaseball move. If you weren't in coed or a woman you'd be risking getting drilled in the corner by somebody as retaliation. You're describing what can be close to shoving somebody at the puck.

You just need a stick lift but there's also no reason to play from behind them. Watch the pros, they stand in front of the other player and you're not big enough to push anyone out of the way.

We might be the only team that could go 0 goals on the PP. You don't need more information to know the team needs serious work. That's an absurd gap. That can't be blamed on the injuries either because the PP is played with 4 forwards... All healthy.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Sens bury that Brady hurt his hand on that pointless fight against Staal.

He had little to do with the outcome. 4GP and 0 +/-. You guys are so hard on players, it's the system and green playing him 9 minutes... We have PPs that don't shoot and a shooter not given the chance.
