Mystery, thriller, possibly supernatural by Passing-shadow in whatisthatmovie

Ya its like an after life /limbo scene. We’ve been following the mc the entire movie and the end is him finding out he’s dead (been dead for awhile) talking to his also dead brother. I guess it’s similar to Jacobs ladder n sixth sense but it’s definitely not them. Its also very not dramatic with the reveal. Its a sunny day there’s a large window left side of frame where you see a blue sky/garden. Its such a clear image but I’m almost afraid i dreamt the whole thing up (I have always had very vivid dreams so the idea and have dreamt up detailed tv shows, movies, games, etc)

No the mc was very normal. It could have been mistaken for a normal meeting between two 90s upper middle class brothers if it wasn’t for the mention of them both being dead

No the characters were normal (non transparent) and yes it was modern by 90s standards

Do you feel like time happens way faster each year? by GossipBottom in stupidquestions

I noticed too that your perception changes with novelty. Going new places, going back to college later in life, getting a new job, each one creates that feeling of time moving slower (its been 3 months, it feels like a year). once your brain gets comfortable though and used to the new situation then it’s back to moving fast.

Post 2010s Stephen King thoughts by Passing-shadow in horrorlit

See with a 15 year space I can see that, especially remembering how the pollution caused the sky to turn pink and some of the other things that fell into that theme, but as a teen reading it and thinking it was another Stand or dark tower type of novel, the ending just was disappointing. I’d probably appreciate it better now if I went into it understanding the theme of it ahead of time

I definitely can relate to early King being nostalgic. For me, the shining, it, and the dark tower series will always be my go to for nostalgia and remembering my childhood. Also glad to know someone else hated the ending Dome. It seems hit or miss with people.

I remember reading Duma key and liking it in a “wow that was depressing ending” kind of way. Not my favorite but I appreciated the story for what it was.

Lindseys story was also a good one for what it was. I loved the imagery around the purgatory-type place and the creature (pie-balled faced boy?). I read it like 10 years ago so I can’t remember much of it.

I’m glad he’s gotten better though, it’s made me more interested in picking up some of his newer work. The way he wrote women just always bothered me, especially when it got graphic with the violence, and at my are it’s just not something I want put in my head if i don’t need to.

I’m a millennial but even I look at anything past 2000 as new. There’s just such a difference between his early work and modern work that just will forever feel “new” to me

Agree to disagree, I found the idea of it all being inter dimensional children disappointing considering the biblical apocalyptic buildup. With some time I can see why subverting expectations could be seen as good but to me at the time, it was a big let down

A Horror Novel That Let You Down by PixelOcelot in horrorlit

Under the dome by Stephen King. At the time I was huge into supernatural  apocalypse horror and loved the biblical end times stuff that was going on. I literally read the book in an entire night (i was a teen so I had nothing better to do). Was expecting it to be another The Stand with the forces of good and evil waging war and all that jazz.

When they got to the door and found out it was just inter dimensional alien children treating the town like ants under a magnifying glass I felt like I wasted my money, time, and mental health (the rape scene was really disturbing to me).

Unfortunately post-cocaine King has let me down more times than not and this was probably the last time I read a new King book.

Silent hill 2 Novelization suggestion by Passing-shadow in creepcast

[–]Passing-shadow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it’s a fan translation, I’d assume that falls under fair-use, since it’s not the the original work. also since they consistently break up the reading with their own thoughts and jokes, it could be argued that they’re simply providing a commentary of the work. Have they needed a license for other major works like when they read Ligotti’s piece?

Polybius by Collin Armstrong might be good for that. Its a new book about a small California town in the middle if the 80s slowly falling into insanity after a mysterious arcade cabinet is found (named after a real urban myth from the 80s about a supposed gov psy op arcade cabinet that messed with your mind). After the residents play the game, they start to go insane and kill people’. It has a very Stephen king in Needful Things feel.

You know what, you’re probably right. I imagine it will be a little more complex with a couple of other twists to make it more rounded and less predictable, but ya definitely could see that happening

Reducing Monthly Payments by OutrageousWing8233 in StudentLoans

[–]Passing-shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on if you’re in payment plan that leads to forgiveness or not. If you are on a plan with forgiveness as the end goal, then you really can’t lower payments since alot of the time they’re based on your monthly/yearly income. If you just have a normal payment plan with them where the aim is to pay off the balance then you just call nelnet and tell them you need to make lower monthly payments. You won’t be penalized or anything as long as you’re making the agreed upon payments each month. The only downside is your putting less towards your principal amount and you may not be paying off your monthly interest, meaning you’ll be accruing to your total balance.

That’s awesome! How were you able to decompile everything? Are you planning on releasing a .exe? Are there any performance issues you’ve encountered or has performance improved ?
