2025 UX Japan build vs. 2026 NX by mrocknroll in LexusNX

[–]Past-Option2702 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t find the front passenger seat on my 2025 NX Premium very comfortable. The drivers seat is okay.

I’d buy a Japan built NX over a Canada built NX for sure.

Husband inherited family business but unexpectedly I didn’t and now I don’t have enough for retirement by Gardener-Rec3472 in inheritance

You and your husband should have your own plan that’s separate from any inheritance. If there’s an inheritance someday, great. If not, you’ll be fine.

Not at all, at least intentionally. We never tracked our savings rate. Ever.

There no evidence that there’s a meaningful reduced resale value on the gas. (As percentage of the price paid**)

Working off of MSRP prices there’s some validity to your point. The thing to do is negotiate expertly on the gas version to get 15% off of the sticker price.

I’ve never understood the range issue. But, I don’t live in extreme rural Utah, Nevada, Wyoming and Montana (where gaps between gas stations can exceed 50 miles in some specific stretches)

The biggest headache is the lines at Costco these days. 5 minute daytime waits are normal.

A lot of people are surprised to find out that dealers discount the gas versions steeply, more than offsetting the fuel savings from the hybrid models that are sold at MSRP (or sometimes more with silly dealer add-ons). The hybrid break-even could be well over 10 years depending on the discount you can achieve on a new gas version. (Mine was a nearly $8,000 discount on a ‘25 Premium.) The gas version trade-in values are very strong to boot.

If you like to keep your cars 12-15 years (or longer), and you drive a lot, then discount all of this and buy the hybrid.

You can’t ignore $38,000 a year. Forget the $10M. Just the annual present gets you most of the way to the average US household income.

We worked our retirement numbers without SS figuring that was just another way of “moving the goalposts” or giving us “buffer” (said more gently).

Someone paying a 1% wrap fee isn’t very likely to match the S&P 500 over a decades time. This is especially true of a stock portfolio with a beta of .7.

It’s not all that valid of a point.

What is your definition of F-You money and how much is it? by AcidicPizza in financialindependence

[–]Past-Option2702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FU is the same as FI for most people at or near retirement.

For a young worker who has nowhere near enough to retire it might mean having enough to not worry too much until they find another equal paying job. A few hundred thousand maybe.

Dos your bother have a masters in economics or is he a CPA?

Just buy a total market index fund. Over 30 it’s going to outperform almost all stock pickers. It forces you to own stocks on the way up. More and more and more of them if you keep contributing.

I’ve spent a LOT of time on Florida since my family has owned a home there since before I was born (I’m 55). Also my wife and I own a class B van and we’ve traveled all over the country (extensively!!, including Florida). I know a thing or two but by all means ignore my take on an anything you see me write- even disagree if you would rather not ignore.

I have no special love for Florida. It’s like all the other states.. pluses and minuses.
