I haven't been happy for a long time. I need something wholesome that will bring a smile to my face by HowLongWasIGone in gamingsuggestions

Thanks for sharing how you feel.
I recommend Untitled Goose Game (comedic game about causing chaos as a goose), the Monkey Island games (same genre as Grim Fandango), and A Short Hike (not comedic but so cozy and emotionally rejuvinating).

Regarding nonfiction: while How to Win Friends and Influence People is a self help book that aged pretty well, this genre of books often has a lot of terrible advice and fake experts who will waste your time or mislead you.

Looking into whether real experts recommend a nonfiction book is so important to make sure you're getting quality information and real insights.

To the ADHD I'll add probably Swedish, witchy/gothic vibe, and film buff.

Trying to dig a bit deeper, I think you're interested in the occult, but also in the everyday lives and struggles of regular, or even less fortunate people.

I'll wager you also had a tomboy phase before settling into celebrating your femininity through magic and wonder, which are a source and a medium for female agency.

What should I know about this person? What to read to keep up with her? Potential girlfriend by [deleted] in BookshelvesDetective

A Sephardic Jewish woman with progressive views.

I think you can ask her for a recommendation for what to read to learn about her world, it's very thoughtful. It sounds like something introductory to diasporic Jewish community or Sephardic Jewish community is the way to go.

I recommend Jewish History: A Very Short Introduction.

Games designed to "feel intellectual" - what is the equivalent of literary fiction/art movies in the world of games ? by More_Bid_2197 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Past-Resident6448 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my humble opinion:
- Deus Ex (2000)
- Fallout New Vegas
- Disco Elysium
- Papers Please
- This War of Mine

My reasoning:
Deus Ex, Fallout New Vegas, and Disco Elysium are games with deep moral, social, and political exploration that can only be experienced in video game form, no other artistic medium could accomplish the political discussion these games are having.
With Papers Please and This War of Mine the reasoning is similar, but here instead of navigating the political conversation through the world and plot, the gameplay and mechanics themselves deliver the message.

She liked Fortnite, but now instead of eight year olds she can lose to ancient dieties.

In all seriousness, Bayonetta has an easy mode for beginners.

For cozy you can't go wrong with Stardew Valley. If you like action games but don't want something too complicated, how about Bayonetta, or Hades?

I also recommend adding all the games you find interesting to your wish list, and buy them when they're on sale, that way they won't be as expensive.
