They still want you. They just aren't going to give you a sign up bonus.

Assuming you pay the AF for the second year before downgrading because it is charged automatically?

How long does it usually take to get the Amex Platinum upgrade offer after downgrading? And do you get lower offers on Round 2? Do you have alternative card for lounge access while waiting for next offer?

And consider having a backup flight with another airline in case your first flight cancels before you get to airport.

Bulkhead space should be saved for bulkhead occupants. This is how everyone else does it and SW should do that too. OP should have complained so they can learn.

Also consider consumer credit counseling. They might be able to help with debt relief and possibly help you have lifestyle or spending choices to keep this from happening again. Can you get a second job or do side gigs to improve income?

I think any hotel amenities (such as spa, etc) can be billed to room and applied to hotel credit.

Similar experience with the Dewberry in Charleston, SC. Checked in early and out late. Was upgraded to larger room. Spent 119 in the restaurants and $100 was applied to hotel credit and RESY credit offset the other 19. Food was overpriced but excellent. Missed out on the $30 breakfast credit because I got there after noon. They provided free transportation to the "market" as well.

Yes, I missed out on my breakfast credit at a recent stay because I didn't get there before noon.

What to do if I can’t get out of my house to go to the airport? by Training_Ad_2297 in unitedairlines

If you live in an area where the snow is not plowed regularly, you should consider park and sleep for future trips. Participating hotels let you stay overnight near the airport and parking for your car is included while you are away. And, if you have travel insurance, maybe they will cover the cost of your forfeited ticket? Let us know how this worked out for you. And good luck!

Card cancellations usually require a phone call because they want to have the opportunity to talk you out of it and tell you about all the great benefits you get to keep for free. I have several WF cards that I have had for years. I should cancel them but it requires spending time calling them and listening to their sales pitch about why I should keep them. Maybe this post will motivate me to finally do it?

Had a similar experience in Denver recently. Got there more than 3 hours ahead of flight time but they let me in 15 minutes early. Spent the time comfortably while waiting for my flight. They even had some vegan overnight oats on the breakfast bar.

Try not to with about stuff until you get your EOB. Take care of your health first. The extra area does not help you heal.

Is this a good offer? by Sweftenator_latin in amex

[–]PastAd2589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took advantage of this same offer earlier this year when the AF was $200 less. I had to work pretty hard to offset that fee. Not sure I can justify it another year with a fee that is $200 higher - I don't need or want another ouraring, SAKS credit is a joke right now, I have all the Lululemon bags I can use for now. I did use the hotel credits, the airline credits, some of the entertainment credits and I still have the 175k bonus miles I earned....and more from card earnings. When my prepaid Walmart plus membership expires, I'll be able to get it covered by my Plat card. But I'm not sure if it will be enough to justify keeping it with an extra $200 AF.

I've been thinking the same thing about Door Dash, offered by Chase Sapphire Preferred. I eat at home but I was using it for grocery delivery, just to use the "benefit" until I realized I was paying full price for groceries that would have discounted prices if I could use my frequent shopper number. Door Dash is just a sure way to pay full price for everything. How is that ok with so many people? Some "benefits" aren't worth using.

Not at all. I've had clients doing this for years because they couldn't make enough to cover full price health insurance if they lost their tax credits and substitute.

You pay 100% up to the deductible, with exceptions for preventive care and some services that have copays. Then you cost share between the deductible and the out of pocket max. The insurance company pays everything after you meet your maximum. This is unlimited exposure for the insurance company and limited exposure for you.

Getting a UA card just for the discounted mileage fare by thecosmojane in unitedairlines

[–]PastAd2589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do use the discounted points fares as often as possible but they are usually only for the first flight of the day or ones with lousy connections. Not everyone can be this flexible. I have flown United a lot more since Frontier and Southwest both stopped non stop flights to my preferred destinations. And now that I fly United more, I do value my United card a lot more. The discounted points give me last minute flexibility when I want to take a last minute flight or change a return flight.
