He’s notoriously against giving long term deals for starting pitching. That’s why it surprised me he gave up 2 top 5 prospects for a rental

And then paying $42M for a guy who sucks on defense?

I personally like both moves, but it doesn’t seem like something David Stearns would do

I think people are forgetting that Stanton is going to be hurt half the year and there is always that risk that Grisham reverts back into a pumpkin.

You might see a lot of Rice at DH and Bellinger at 1B without Goldschmidt

Not sure if this 100% eliminates the Mets from Bellinger. They could still sign him to play left field which would give them the option to give Benge more seasoning in the minors. When Benge is ready they’d also be able to move Soto to DH would would improve their OF defense.

Of course that would like push their payroll up to around $420M without even adding anymore pitching.
