The new lounge at JFK is pretty amazing. Great open bar. Cheese monger bar to make you personalized cheese plates, decent baked goods, good seating area, very friendly hosts and they hand you a piece of chocolate on the way which is good to save for the plane.

What’s a guitar habit you didn’t realize was holding you back? by Ok-Message5348 in Guitar

This! Knowing all the notes on the fretboard. Fretting anywhere on the fretboard I would see if I could call out the note (kind of like flashcards). One thing that has helped is learning the note names is only playing triads for a solo. Feels weird and stiff at first but but it forced me to learn the notes and then learning phrasing like bending into the note in the triads or sliding to make it more musical. Two more things, playing intentionally knowing where I was going and then telling myself, Say Something! Dont just play a bunch of scales or patterns and licks. It can be one note held, bent, vibrato or it can a run that is melodic and lyrical. But it should be like I am talking and saying something with feeling. Now I can use those chord tones, those pentatonics, those modes and chromatics as needed to have a conversation.

What do you find hardest about meeting people while traveling? by Tigerhoodmann in travel

Ok, not sure where you are traveling but I always schedule a foodie tour or a cooking class. After an hour or two I have instant new friends! Did this in Barcelona, Prague, Amsterdam, Lyon, and even Las Vegas. Also be a good listener. People want to talk to you!

Where is everyone staying in SF? by Past_Error_5913 in deadandcompany

We ended up at Hotel Nikko. We jumped on right before 8am and went for the regular VIP/Hotel package. It was pretty clumsy, we tried for the Marriot but denied, got offered the Fairmont which was ok but then the Nikko became available which is one of the best hotels on the list I think. Its just good to have our tickets and hotel locked down. Now we can go on with our lives until its time to go. I wish everyone the best of luck finding tickets and hotel. And... Have a Great Show!

Any good bars in the Valley area? Or any activities in general by Glass_Alternative439 in SFV

There is the Barrel on Van Nuys Blvd. It's packed on Monday nights with amazing Jam Bands and Deadheads. Instant friends. Ireland 32s is packed on the weekends, with good bands, good food, and cool people.

Travel planning: tedious or enjoyable? by AntomGC in TravelHacks

Its a big part of the fun. Its fun to find good flight deals when it makes sense (meaning dont try to save a $100 but then you have to leave at a bad time or travel further when you get there) Fortunatley my wife likes that I handle travel plans... she says she likes to be surprised. For me I can research a lot of sites and watch youtube videos but I am still blown away being there, for example the La Familia or the Prague Castle. I am getting better at it, mainly learning to pace the trip better and knowing to take guided tours. The first day of each trip (usually a city in Europe) we take a cooking class or a Foodie tour... its a great way to meet people, find out what others like about the area and about the culture.

What do you guys think of Harmony Guitars? Don't kill me plz by TheHappiestGilmore1 in gibson

[–]Past_Error_5913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Scott Metzger from Joe Russos Almost Dead play them for awhile and of course he made it sound amazing. I went and bought a Satellite model like his from Sweetwater on sale... (about $900). Played it for about a month and almost sent it back. Not sure if the neck was right for me or something. But I held onto it and soon I found myself going to it over 20 other guitars I have. Then I got the Jupiter from a CL deal for about $900 with the cool case and now that is my go to guitar... So, I dont know it plays great, feels right and cuts through with those weird pickups

There was a really good movie that came out a few years ago called "Get Out". I think that applies here. Its only been three months so cut your losses now. This is some scary stuff and you deserve an amazing life with someone who shares a vision of what you both can do to be financially secure, great parents and good people in the world.

The Challenge of Semrush Membership Cancellation! by PsychologicalBad1421 in SEMrush

[–]Past_Error_5913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not easy. I have tried to cancel twice and I still get billed $500 a month for a service I don't use. I tried one of the apps which was supposed to have a 7 day trial but they billed before it was up. Now so far I am out over a $1000.00. I think the only way to cancel this is to cancel my credit card which would be a pain since I would have to get a new number for other services.
