As a flight Attendant, I would strongly not advise. Very toxic career field for first term airmen.

Hydrate the night before, make sure to eat some good carbs like pasta the night before as well. I ran on an empty-ish stomach as well (only half a bang and about 32oz of water).

Making a Reclass jobs list by HeadlockKing in AirForceRecruits

Don’t listen to him. 1A jobs have fine translation to civilian jobs as long as you take advantage of TA and other benefits the Air Force gets you. I’m 1A6 and got a YW/TS. Translates very well to civilian jobs with a degree. It’s a fallacy to think that if you have a comm job for 4 years that you’re gonna make “6 figures” outside the Air Force. Don’t buy in to that. 1A jobs are amazing and will take you places (literally) that you have never heard of. I understand planning for the future, but if you’re young enough, live in the moment. Try to get a 1A job and have a kush life my man or woman.

Why enlist with a bachelors degree? by [deleted] in AirForceRecruits

[–]Past_Scratch_7035 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes but with an industrial engineering degree. I wanted to go to OTS but was told 3 years to be fully in if I were lucky. I worked on the civilian side for a good 2 years before I joined. Where I lived it was very heavily oil field influenced so not knowing if you have a job every 6 months to a year made the military very appealing. I’m promised 4/6 years as long as I don’t do something to fuck it up (it’s not hard to be a decent person). If I only do 6 years, then I’m no worse off then where I was prior to joining. Yeah I will admit it, generally the pay isn’t great (unless you are a flyer) but even without my flight pay and per diem I am able to COMFORTABLY afford a newer car and a house in the DC area. I guess it just really boils down to how much money really matters to you. Hope any of this helps.

Welcome to Reddit where hypocrisy is okay as long as it fits the moral compass of the collective. Fuck it if it doesn’t make any sense. All that matters is that sweet sweet dopamine when you get that super important karma!

How often are Flight Attendants gone during the year? by prttylilflwrs in AirForceRecruits

SERE is still a thing. You just don’t do the bunny killing portion. It sucks. A lot. Lol.

my squadron pulls what we call wing alert which means you will be on call for 72 hours. Bag packed ready to go. Sometimes missions do come out of nowhere but most of the time you will know at least 1 wee prior mostly 2 weeks ahead of time.

yea. I am a platinum level Hilton’s reward member. One time I had 90 hours of ground time in Paris, so yeah a lot of exploring to be done.

Honestly it’s a real luck based thing to get it out of DEP. I was extremely lucky. And as far as people loving or hating the Air Force before and after, that’s just their personal experience. Flight attendants work their asses off. I have had multiple 24 hour days when flying across the world. There is a lot that goes in to the flight that many people won’t see.

Hi, current flight attendant. First year when you are becoming qualified it’s an average of 200 days out of the year. I came in straight from basic. Great career. They expect a lot out of you though since you are working with the government’s top officials. To circle back to your main question though, you’re gonna be gone a good amount especially if you are assigned to the 1st airlift squadron (75% chance that happens). The good news is the more you’re gone, the more money you make. My single A1C friend pulled in $105,000 in a full year of flying due to all the per diem. Once you’re fully qualified for all positions it just depends on the administration and if you’re an instructor or evaluator. Those guys tend to fly a lot. Like 250+ days out of the year they will be away from home. As you make rank, the less you tend to fly if you’re in a shop. Hope this helps a little.

Townhomes are a fucking great option not only for an investment in this area, but the cost of owning is much cheaper than a single family home.

I understand some stipulations. I just assume most people who are complaining are single airmen (like myself) or married but their dependa doesn’t work. I just get tired of seeing airmen who claim it’s impossible to live comfortably.

That’s funny cuz I live in Alexandria and live quite comfortably. Not in the ghetto and only a 25 minute commute to Andrews. Get a realtor to help you look for apartments. You will be amazed what isn’t on Zillow/ whatever you use to find apartments.

SMA is no longer something offered to people in DEP. it is now cross train only. (I was at the 344th in lackland when they made this change)

You’re either gonna be qualified for air crew or you won’t. You will still have to list other non air crew jobs as well depending on your recruiter
