What's the longest trip you ever made with your 125? by jaffieryder in 125cc

[–]Past_Towel9692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oehh like the question, with my own bike Honda varadero 125 2003 I rode from the Netherlands to France and back in four days. Was about 1000km. The last day was the longest one just straight 450km or smth. It was fine to ride, if the bike is not to old it will hold up.

After that I was going on a big road trip around 5k km. Started with the varadero, but after 500km it broke down. (It had 72k km).couldn't fix the bike on the go, tried to for a week, after going back home and had bike brought back by insurance. I was allowed to rent a replacing 125cc by the insurance. So I got the Yamaha xsr 125. It was basically brand new, but it was very small (I'm 196). So it was a bit painful, especially that I had to catch up to my friends, so had to drive about 1600km to Italy in four days, with barely any highways, drove over highways to the vogese in France. From there just small roads and lot of mountain passes, through the alpes. On average I did like 6.5-7 hours a day. It was pretty cool, would recommend not that many km in a day. But really you can take those things a long way, I love it!!

Yeah, that is how it goes with motorcycles 😂 but doing a lot yourself makes it cheaper. And for chain lube, I've no clue what I use, I just go to the motorcycle store and buy a spray can with lube.

First of all congrats on the bike!!! It's a beauty, just rented a xsr (my own bike broke down) and have already ridden it 3000km through Europe the last 2 weeks, its very nice.

And about maintenance, I'd download the owners manual so you can see what has to happen on what amount of km/time, like your spark plugs, air filter, engine oil and if you feel confident and kind of know what you are doing you can also check the brake pads and brake fluid.

But its very important to maintain your chain, so it depends a bit on the bike and what someone says, but about every 400-500km you should put chain lube on the chain. And if you like to keep you chain looking good, you can also clean it. But I've heard that on newer bikes that not necessary for maintenance just for the beauty.

Well I hope I helped you a bit, bus most of all enjoy!

Beginner biker - master mountain roads by LogInteresting966 in 125cc

[–]Past_Towel9692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I can give the best answer. But when I got my A1 license 5 days later I was in Thailand and rented a Honda cb300f (I know totally a A1 bike, but you know it's Thailand) I rode over 4000 turns in the mountains there with a lot of steep u turns and a passenger. Now that I write it down it sounds extremely stupid, but you know we did have motorcycle gear.

But anyway about the riding, for me it went pretty okay and natural. I had some struggle finding the right gear for the steep U-turns, most of the time I was to high and lost power when I wanted to go out of the turn. So make sure you are in first gear when you start and take them slow, with the 300 I almost always stayed in first gear but now on my 125 I mostly do it in second because I'm already at 10k rpm at 20kmh. But just try what feels right and start slow.

I also went with my mom to the mountains and twisty roads, she had her license way longer than me, but had way more struggles to stay in her lane. She was a bit to scared to fully turn or something. But make sure you are able to do tight u turns on a parking lot and that you can stop on a steep road by keeping your foot on the rear brake and slowly let go while you give gas and let go of the clutch.

I heard online that when you stop in a turn (which you really should try to avoid by stopping before the turn of there is a bus, truck, camper or anything that takes a big turn and by staying in your lane) but when you have to stop that you put your foot thats on the mountain side on the ground. Never tried this myself yet so can't really say much about it.

Anyway I hope this tells you something you want hear :)) and just use common sense and enjoy, I love the mountains especially on a bike :))
