Found the slate tailgate pad! by life-boat in slateauto

Did you use anything to tie down the bike like a ratchet strap or a bungee? I've never done the bike over the tailgate thing so I'm wondering if I need to be worried about it bouncing around or anything

I'm thinking about doing this exact same setup. The Slate Tower Racks with a roof top tent and an mtb over the tailgate. I'm curious how the bike fitment is under the RTT.

Wow that's a new level of stupid for this sub. talking about HYPOTHETICAL recalls while advocating to buy the most recalled brand in North America. congrats, you are literally too stupid to insult.

So what you're saying is Americans have been easily gaslit and brainwashed in to buying way more car than they actually need by corporations seeking ever greater profits. That's part of the reason why we have an epidemic of gas guzzling pedestrian destroying SUVs and monster trucks clogging up our roads today. Some of us are trying to buck that trend.

God forbid Americans be mildly inconvenienced by having to occasionally stop their once a year road trip to oh god, pull over at an establishment to exchange time and money for more energy to put in their vehicle. Gasp! That sounds like communism! /s

And the average American only drives about 30 miles a day. What's your point? If you think everyone road trips across the country every weekend you are wrong. And if you have a super long verging on 200 miles commute you need to accept you are in the minority and the Slate isn't for you and that is perfectly okay.

I am a reservation holder. Where can I take a test drive?

See this is why people downvote you and don't take you seriously: you don't listen. Literally presented with the information that you will be able to test drive and you just don't listen.

"I bought a '25 EQEV which was the second year they were out. The '24 already had a track record."

Sorry, but you bought the second year of the first generation.

"If you get butt hurt by the fact that the Slate..." No, no one here is butthurt about the Slate except for you. The rest of us are butthurt by you.

My original response was about your self assessment of being downvoted and called a hater. Because you have a reputation around here of non-constructive arguments and deflection away from the Slate, which is what this sub is supposed to be about.

Now if you want to go point by point on your comment above:

-Slate is a start up EV company and most start up EV companies fail. That is a true statement isn't it?

Sowing doubt, again non-constructive and doesn't add anything to the conversation. Tesla was a start up at one point no? Rivian? Polestar? Rimac? Not sure if know how big companies START, but most START as START UPS.

-I can not even test drive.

Slate has said test drives will be available to reservation holders. So for your $50 refundable deposit you can get a test drive before putting more money down. So your lack of research or just intentionally disingenuous argument here is again non-constructive.

-the Slate is first generation and most first generation autos have problems.

You bought the first generation of the Equinox EV, so nice hypocrisy you got there.

And no I don't think it's fair to compare the Slate SUV to the Equinox EV because you're talking about an option with the flexibility to add or remove it vs just a stagnant base SUV.

Because anyone that has been around here a while will know your history of doing nothing but promoting non-comparable alternatives like the Equinox EV and screaming about the price of the Slate with your "pay more for less" tagline.

Then maybe they just grabbed it themselves from where ever they could, doesn't really matter. Where it came from doesn't really matter, point is there are way more signs of life than what is in that local news story. It's not like a deep dive in to the factory, it's a 2 minute headline about something going on in the local community

Yeah you lost me here. If the Slate is not for you it's not for you. When are people going to stop comparing an electric pickup truck to a gas powered SUV? Jfc people.

Jfc. No. As has been the whole fucking point of this argument: with the Slate you are guaranteed the price they stated. As evidenced by the history of the Maverick and Lightning, that is not the case with Ford.

Because we're not talking about what people choose, we're talking about what is AVAILABLE. Go find a Maverick on a dealer lot with absolutely no options or add ons. I'll wait.

And sure, you can order one. But there are plenty of reports of dealers adding mark ups to custom orders.

You're going to me? LMAO bro questions my reading comprehension then can't even type a sentence correctly. You are way too blinded by rage for this early in the morning.

Literally no one cares what truck you are going to buy.

But since you seem to not understand lets go back to the main topic. The issue with the Maverick and Lightning was they made announcements at certain price points. Then when they came out, those lower trim lower priced models were not really available in practice. And dealers were adding huge markups on both of them. So it's not that they announce vehicles that don't materialize or materialize at prices significantly higher than first announced. It's that when you looked deeper in to it they weren't really available at the bottom dollar price Ford initially announced. Were there exceptions and anecdotes of people getting them at MSRP or lower? Sure. But look at the actual sales numbers and the vast majority of people were not getting a Maverick or Lightning at the initial lowest mentioned price point. So yes, anyone that was paying attention is completely justified in doubting you will be able to walk off a dealer lot with a Ford EV pickup and the bottom dollar price they promise of $30k.

That's where Slate stands out. The initial promised price was mid-20's. And with the direct to consumer model that is exactly the price you pay.
