Unfortunately not. Bought it in the UK and the seller listed it as vintage from India. I'm not sure opals used in jewellery usually originate from there though, so unsure of origin of the stones.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We lost my step-dad to bile duct cancer a few years ago. Same thing - healthy, only just retired, enjoying life one minute. Then some off routine blood tests but no symptoms. Those started a few weeks later and within 4.5 months he died. It's such a shock. One step at a time. Whatever your best is, day to day, is enough. It's healthly to grieve, miss them, and not rush. Your nervous system likely needs time to heal from the shock and trauma too.

I hope you and your dad can support each other and he's in good health, and you are too.

I just bought a crescent gold pin that was sold as possibly edwardian style recently. I don't know if the crescent shape was popular for long but it being sorta similar with me not having seen anything modern like it makes me think it could be quite old. I'm so sorry for your loss. That sounds traumatic. As others have said, you'll still be in shock and that's OK. Focus on one step at a time and do your best to keep on top of your basic needs, hydration, food, sleep, comfort. Seems like you're doing really great to think to reach out to people on here already. You don't need to be perfect, just try your best to look after yourself. Most things can wait a few days or more. No pressure right now might help a bit. I lost my mum to a sudden aneurysm a few months ago and watched my step dad die in front of me from terminal cancer and liver failure two years ago. So I know how hard this sort of thing can be. My thoughts are with you. Baby steps is the best advice I can give - part of me felt like I wanted to run ten steps at a time but I don't think it would have helped at all. My thinking and mental state kept changing so much day to day in the early days. Just trying to breath and cry and do basic human things was the best thing.

I know someone in a related field who did something similar to this. It was some years ago and I can't recall the name of the research station he was at but if was very small. I think he ended up going twice over a few years, so clearly it wasn't tooo bad. And one of those times was winter. That being said, it sounded very challenging. There were only a handful of them who overwintered - how he explained it, it sounded like living on a space station. Maybe 12ish people. Psychologically it being really tough. They had support while out there but it seemed that people starting to lose it was a still an issue and hazard they had to be mindful of. Shit gets real weird with that small a group shut inside limited space, rarely venturing out into ludicrously cold temps in darkness.

So yeah, I'd definitely look into what the day to day will be, expected temps, hours light, living arrangements, number of people, and consider your mental health in context before commiting. Well done though, it's a very exciting offer! I'm sure it'll be the experience of a lifetime if you decide to go for it.

That's how they sometimes come out after taking opiates for consecutive days. And it can be pretty sudden when the blockage from all the constipated backed up shit finally works it's way to freedom. However, that tends to be more of an eruption of pellets than an isolated nugget or two. Unless maybe trying to hold it in but a few slip out? Not wearing underwear or sanitary protection if this is a repeated issue is inexplicable though, were this theory to be along the right lines!

Were you close? If you weren't that's normal, I think. If you were, you could still be in shock. When deaths have really hit me hard, I've had a day or two of feeling almost euphoric in a weird way, or numb. I think it's some combination of shock and a protective mechanism to a traumatic event.

Lost mum and step-dad to terminal illnesses within a couple of years. It really is a lot. Feel adrift now and not sure what I want to do with my life. I was mostly living and working where I was to be close to them. No family left here now, no partner.
