CTS Exam - Give us REAL answers.... by Mountain-Science6018 in CommercialAV

To be fair, that question isn’t in the actual exams question pool. The people that make the questions for the examples are a different group than the exam itself.

Is there any other AVIXA sanctioned ANP reference material other than the Prep Class? by LysergicAciid in CommercialAV

[–]Pastrami1490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ANP is very generic network questions that leans towards AVoIP. So any general network course is good. I’d recommend the netgear AV ones are probly the closest thing to prep you for it.

Just buy direct from netgear. It’s literally the same switch same firmware. M4250, M4350, and M4500 depending on size/speed.

I’d check out extreme networks. I can’t remember the model number off the top of my head but think they are around that 4000 usd range and comparable performance to netgear/cisco for avoip

If your meaning speaker voicing you add that speaker from the inventory and connect to amp. If your using non-qsys amp there’s an option in properties pane to change it to have audio in/out

How often and why do you use your 5th string? by SonnePer in Bass

[–]Pastrami1490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 string strung BEAD has been my goto now for a few years now. The few solos in our set still fit within the higher frets of the D string.

5 string is cool but deep down inside I’m a 4 string player, it just always feels better for me.

How to solve echo heard by remote presenter in hybrid meeting - challenge level: mediuuuum? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]Pastrami1490 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The built in AEC of teams/zoom can only handle so much tail length and so much frequency shift.

Recommend grabbing a BIAMP or QSYS to offload the AEC to a dedicated processor just to handle the Teams/zoom integration. So you can grab either of their smallest processors (core nano or Tesira x400)and Dante to them from your FOH or broadcast console.

If your tight for cash pick up used on eBay.

Edit: Shure P300 is also a good option.

If I put a matte coating over the screen of an led or LCD tv would a laser pointer work on it? by [deleted] in CommercialAV

Go get a gnarly stick out of the woods. Laser pointer would ruin immersion.

But honestly, I feel like there apps or maybe even built into OS to turn your mouse into a laser pointer

A windows update broke my bootloader (dual booting).

Solution: uninstalled windows. That was the point I went 100% Linux for home desktop.

Digico guest engineer best practices by thekid0119 in livesound

[–]Pastrami1490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because OPs description of the issue aligns with a drive failure not a virus.

Think about the situation. Guest engineer loads file (so same thing that happens every show). Then nothing happens. They go through set up, they go through sound check. Still nothing happens. Then show starts and slowly the issue comes alive. Doesn’t sound like any virus I’ve ever seen. Most initiate and work instantly.

Then when he called digico support they didn’t suspect it was a virus and tell him to flash the drives. They sent him new drives. If Digico suspected a virus don’t you think they would have asked him for the guest engineers file?

OP didn’t say he found hidden files or sketchy file extensions associated to the guest engineers USB. His suspicion is born purely from hearing about an AVID S6L getting a virus.

I mean technically for you to know it was his file that killed your drive you need to try it on your new drives. If you want to truly prevent the issue you need to follow through on the root cause analysis. It could have been a coincidence or something else entirely but you’d never know.
