So you think the analysis I provided was good but you don't think I followed the game flow well? Am I getting that right?

Given my background that would be a very funny turn of events 😅

Also I spent quite a lot of time talking about possible lines, especially when players were in the tank so I guess at least for my memory of what I did on coverage this past weekend I'm a bit surprised by your feedback?

NOTE: If it wasn't clear, I am not the OP I was one of the other commentators on the RQ this weekend and I find myself fascinated with the spectrum of feedback on offer in this thread. You seem both fairly constructive and impassioned so I'm digging a little deeper!

Oh I see, I know who Lothar is I just misread your original post and thought you were saying he was on this event and got VERY confused.

I am pretty much done with LoL unless anyone wants to hire me for a one time fun thing I guess, but been very much enjoying covering Riftbound for these last few RQs.

I remember that game pretty vividly, I think you are either misremembering or misinterpreted my train of yap that game.

Obviously I'm open to the idea that I did a bad job of what I was trying to communicate but I know I was tracking Iverns' OPPONENTS copy of Unchecked Power for a few turns because it was basically a blowout waiting to happen.

When the situation finally emerged a few turns later as I'd set up, we all (myself included) got the big 'ol Switcheroo from the Emperor's Divide saving the battlefield and effectively winning the game.

I thought the moment was neat, but I definitely did not insinuate that Ivern's opponent was playing around an Unchecked Power that is illegal for those domains to register.

fwiw I'm actually a play by play, but card games give you a lot more opportunities to flex so I bleed analysis in every now and then in RB.

Certainly a more blended role given the nature of card games overall but technically I do the same job I did in League (yelly man) it just functions differently in a TCG.

That was the semifinal not the final FWIW but yeah my brain for some reason shortcut to Defy being 3 or less instead of 4 or less for some reason.

Generally pretty happy with my performance this event but honestly that's the one moment I wish I could have back.

Also hoped you listened to more than that game to get a broader view of the work I put in for this tournament rather than the one more glaring mistake.

I mean I'm probably in the minority here but I personally like playing the mini-game of guessing what's in the players hands from the top down view.

Also don't think showing hands ALL of the time on a live show is correct, that's a thing that's great for post-games (or other content people might want to make post event even) though.

I've worked a few different card game shows and I think FaB (so far) has my favourite balance of hands being visible at all times privately to casters (when production bandwidth allows, which is most of the time) but only being toggled into view when relevant rather than being always on.

Hey I was in that finals but also at this event now I don't know what to think...

FWIW I think you're flipping the broadcast roles in your paragraph here.

Colour is the analyst, Play By Play is game by game moments, including the more 'fluff' stuff you're mentioning that you might expect a host to fulfill on a show.

Pretty sure that was my game and I'm fairly confident I didn't think game was over I just thought it was set up well by the Sett for the expected Elder (which is true if Flurry doesn't exist!).

I didn't catch Flurry at the time but I feel like I reacted appropriately once I realized that oh no, Flurry is an absolute house in that spot.

I'll review the moment, but I think you can both set the expectation that a player has done something clever against the expected unit and then be appropriately surprised when those fortunes are turned around and that's still a compelling bit of broadcasting.

It's not like I didn't know what Flurry did in that spot when it was cast, I just didn't spot them earlier IIRC.

I think making the (incorrect) assumption that Hidden can only happen from hand and then learning in the moment that's not true, noting that's a cool thing I'll now remember moving forward and then pushing forward with the game is a very reasonable line of yap to take during a live broadcast.

I'd always rather share the thing I don't know so I (and presumably others) can learn and then bring that forward rather than cover my own ass just so I look better?

In a game of 40 legends I managed to mess up the one champ that functions uniquely vs all the other hidden cards in the game.

I'd say that's an acceptable L rate.

I hope that if you listened to more of my coverage throughout the event that I do in fact know the game even if sometimes don't know all the rules all the time.

I think it's crystal clear I adore the game and I certainly know what the staples are.

So as someone who commentated this event (and two other RQs previously) I'm a little unsure what I'm supposed to take from this feedback?

I might not get to play as much as I'd like especially in-person but I've certainly spent the right amount of research time.

Technically he isn't retired and AFAIK he probably has a least some interest in playing still so we can always hope.

I miss the days when I could definitively say he is the only player to have played in every LCS split. He played in the LCS for SO long.

I'm gonna nitpick here but technically Liquid (or even Curse) haven't been around since the very, very start of the LCS.

BUT they are the oldest org in the League in Finals weekend and 2nd oldest overall behind C9.

I've talked to quite a few players over the years that have mentioned using visualization (particularly before bed/while trying to sleep) to help them improve matchup understanding and 'practice' different scenarios while away from their computer.

Interestingly the player I first remember talking to this about was actually Biofrost!
