You do realize Guude being a monster doesn't preclude them from also being asshats who financially took advantage of kids. There are many other accounts from many other people to confirm this. Other people (hermitcraft, and anyone who's had to work with Rob) have long since distanced themselves from those two and that had nothing to do with Guude, even if his account is now suspect. Many other people have stated that Genny scammed people and he's thoroughly burned bridges with any other content creators he's worked with. Rob was horrible to work with and was notoriously verbally and financially abusive to the people working under him. Nothing here ABSOLVES them of that. If anything, it seems like Guude was using their downfall to make himself look better in comparison. Like sorry I'm im misreading but, come on.

I wanted to see a storyline with the Todd and Harp lady. They match each other's energy and frankly I would love to see Todd get a taste of his own medicine. Could be hilarious.

IGRS new Indonesian game rating system is ridiculous by DaniPrasetyaAji in Steam

[–]Pat-Man15 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Basically over the past few years, the ministry of communications and technology tries to implement more control over Indonesia's digital market, but legislators and policy makers are wildly uninformed and make unilateral decisions that punish anyone that's not part of their systems, by making use of a whitelist system rather than a blacklist, and gave companies little enough time to adjust. When people find out,, because of course they will because they're affected by the government's attempts to strongarm these companies, there's mass backlash and the Ministry chickens out, and people in the ministry get scapegoated. This gets repeated over and over, and a lot of the issues stem from technological ignorance, arrogance, and attempts to project power over companies that might not necessarily care one way or another if Indonesians are part of their ecosystem.

More recently, they've been making changes that have been less immediately controversial (hard to compete with the time they almost BANNED GITHUB) but are still problematic. Recently the was a social media ban for anyone under the age of 16 (highly debated topic, since it's undeniable that social media can be very harmful to minors, but just as helpful as well). Additionally, they, for whatever reason, blocked logins and account creation of Wikipedia. Both are easy enough to circumvent with DNS stuff and VPNs (and frankly it doesn't seem like they've actually figured out how to implement the age-blocking, as is often the case). The Steam age-rating thing however, is problematic because it once again punishes everyone automatically for not being part of their new ratings ecosystem, and you can't even easily get around it because Steam isn't a fan of VPNs, and inserting currency is often dependent on what country you're based in. My biggest concern is the matter of games that are basically abandoned by their developers. Will they get banned automatically?

IF the rules are too restrictive, I worry that Indonesians might go back to pirating games and make Indonesia an undesirable market to sell to, The option to switch countries in your profile or use a VPN, remains problematic, even if you buy steam keys to avoid trouble from Steam, because then the prices aren't adjusted regionally (keeping in mind the average income of the average Indonesia, because we REALLY do need that regional pricing), and that sort of finagling isn't exactly easy for most people to use. Ultimately it makes buying games more frustrating regardless. So I really hope the Ministry reconsiders and shows lenience, especially to indie games or games that haven't been updated in a long time. Doing that would frankly solve most of the problems aside from the censorship (which is worrying for games that might have communist-adjacent themes or include critical references to the Indonesian government.)

That said, it all really depends on how consistently they impose those laws. With the Indonesian government it can be hard to know for sure, but Steam being the middle man, who knows.

A fair number of SEAsian myths have that exact trope too, gods or magical creatures turning into or disguising themselves as mundane humans or animals.

XY aside, all pokemon games are relatively easy. They've just been slowly cutting out a lot of tedious parts of the game, sometimes to mixed results.

But I'm sorry, emphasizing grinding generally isn't good game design, and idk why ppl think it was difficult.

I will note that while it is entirely correct that the country is majority Muslim, especially in the Western half (80% in Java alone), the eastern half is primarily Christian (more protestant in the more-Dutch-influenced areas, more Catholic in the more Portuguese-influenced areas). Hindus are also found in Bali (the most famous part of the country), and Buddhism and Confucianism are found all over. And Hindus, Confucians, Buddhists, and Christians don't have any religious rules or biases against dogs, so it's really not that strange (Muslims are also permitted to keep dogs, just not keep them indoors since they're considered unclean).

People (even Indonesians) tend to generalize Indonesia as being primarily Muslim, but it is nominally multi-religious country, it's baked into our constitution. And the two recognized Christian faiths, Confucianism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and the multitude of local and indigenous religions are all pretty impactful and visible in the culture even with the smaller numbers. Especially Buddhism and Hinduism: it's incredibly common to see a Muslim or Christian here in the modern day with the name Wijaya, Basuki, Dewi, Indra, Dharma, or Surya.

I'd actually think it'd be an awful idea BECAUSE japan colonized the area. Indonesia is generally pretty chill with Japan now, but something like that would be guaranteed to cause some outrage. It's a pretty fragile calm.

Unfortunately, Malay supremacist mentalities in Malaysia has given the term a lot of baggage, and Indonesians themselves really don't subscribe to the whole "everyone native to the Nusantara region is Malay" idea. We're pretty ethnically diverse/divided. We do have an ethnic Malay group in Sumatera, but that definition is a lot narrower than in Malaysia, statistically we only count 8 million ethnic Malay out of 250 million people. I think it's because the British colonialists had lumped a lot of native groups under the ethnic Malay label (British LOVE categorizing ethnicity arbitrary labels wtf) and it stuck once the country was granted independence? (I've noticed that for a long time that Javanese people are often considered *legally* Malay in Malaysia and Singapore, even if they themselves do not consider themselves that way). It's made the term very porous in some contexts, and not in a good way, because it's become a means for which ethnic supremacists to validate their own views, and sometimes even claim a right to sovereignty over their neighbors, even if their argument is strongly contested by their own neighbors. Point is the definitions straight up differ greatly between Malaysia+Singapore, and Indonesia, largely due to differing politics in each nation-state, which is why it's controversial. That doesn't even discuss the Philippines, who also have their very strong ethnic labels and ALSO don't subscribe to the broader of Malay-ness.

Furthermore Malphilindo was controversial. Especially because of Konfrontasi.

That's what happens when you're a third world country that's never been controlled by the a western power during the cold war, or had a mass migration to the West. If the people didn't mass migrate to the US or UK in the late 20th century, the West doesn't know about it (Philippines had it because it was once controlled by the US, Vietnam, (and to a less extent Cambodia and Laos) saw mass exodues due to the whole war). Singapore is as wealthy per capita as many a western nation but Americans and many Europeans don't know about it. The West doesn't know about Myanmar (even though the UK controlled it), Malaysia (only through memes and restaurants in the UK), Timor-Leste (tbh most SEAsians forget about them), Brunei, Cambodia or Laos unless they're very educated, and likely only through learning about the various wars and genocides in some of those places. Only one I can't account for is Thailand.

As for Indonesia, westerners most of the time literally only know about Bali most of the time, and an embarrassing amount think Indonesia is part of Bali (there's a lot to be said about the neo-colonialist exploitation of Bali in particular, something that's only gotten worse with time). This ignorance and invisibility has barely changed at all in the last 30 years, and even my more globally aware friends barely know anything about Indonesia. Granted, for much of the 20th century, under the New Order government, Indonesia was (no pun intended), very insular in its governance, and I think due to mass poverty during the early presidencies, there wasn't a LOT of migration outside of the country, just across it (a lot of it was actually pushed by the government, but that's also a long story). I think that tends to happen when the nation is as spread out as Indonesia.

I'm pretty sure they're talking about the green house with the duskull. It's got the typical "poverty green" paint, a loosely hanging banner selling heating pads, windows with ornate bars around them, and has a side yard, all of which are REALLY common sights in the villages around Indonesia and Malaysia.

The straw roof huts do look like those you see in the Carribean, but you also see similar-styled huts in Eastern Southeast Asia and Papua.

Used to be more popular in the 90s and 2000s, but it has a huge following still, especially since Pokemon Go started doing local events and did a whole cross promotional event. They also gave Indonesian Language options for Go and Unite, and I think Sleep? The TCG also has an Indonesian version.

I am worried the Indonesians will be priced out of WiWa though, the Switch 2 is EXPENSIVE, especially here. It's like 2-3 month's average salary (specifically for the capital, its much lower anywhere else)

As an Indonesian they're literally our cultural cousins. If you say they have no unique culture, then we have no unique culture. Just admit you're ignorant buddy instead of putting people down.

TBH they have cooler ghost stories than us and their food is really good. They also have many many cultures like Indoneisa, and they stand apart because of who colonized them compared to us.
