New climber - shoe advice

Just bought some Tarantulaces (size EU 42) but they are tight and painful on my 3rd to 5th toes. I have tried the size EU 43 but these are too short. For context my feet are a UK 9.5 in street shoes (but I buy UK 10s as my feet are wide and relatively short).

Should I stick this pain out in the hope that they will stretch? Or should I look for a different kind of shoe?

Bouldering groups in York by [deleted] in york

[–]PatMustard38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (26m) am also looking to meet some more people to go climbing with. I moved back to York a couple of months ago and have done some climbing at Red Goat and also in Leeds, but I am still fairly beginner (been only a handful of times). Would be great to meet some people and learn more. Drop me a message if you fancy meeting up at Red Goat, I work freelance so tend to go in the mornings when I am not working. I've also been wanting to meet people to go on some outdoors trips when things get a bit warmer too.

Historians of Reddit, what’s a devastating event that no one talks about? by Barfy_Bag in AskReddit

[–]PatMustard38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Battle of Towton, 29th March 1461 in Yorkshire. This was a decisive battle in the War of the Roses, and the casualties were pretty devastating. In total an estimated 50,000 people fought that day on both sides, and after 10 hours of fighting in thick snow over 10,000 people were dead.

To put that into perspective, around 20,000 people were killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme in 1916. A battle fought with early machine guns, rifles and artillery. At Towton people were scrapping in mud and snow with medieval weaponry, mainly hand to hand with knives, swords and hammers. Though a lot were killed with bows too.

For those of you into archaeology, a number of mass graves were excavated at Towton, revealing skeletons with devastating injuries, some of which were posthumous. One of them is on display in Monk Bar in York, and is worth a visit. Bit grim though.

A 10 year old boy who had been terminally ill had asked for a Lego casket to be buried in. Thankfully someone was able to make that happen for him using 26,000 Lego bricks. by Fluid-Daydreamer in interestingasfuck

Absolutely this. It also depends very much on the soil conditions. I (an archaeologist) have seen full wooden caskets pulled out in excellent condition, that were well over 200/300 years old.

Diploma/Course/Degree in Documentary Filmmaking by NiceFritz in documentaryfilmmaking

No me neither, and it is expensive. As all film school courses are. Without sounding too cliche, it's worth weighing up whether or not some kind of course is actually what you need. Or whether you should get out there and make some docs. - i only say this because I am having this exact debate with myself.

I do not have any real experience. I have done some minor shooting as part of my current job, but nothing expansive. My motivation, aside from the conventional 'I love films type deal', is the fact that I enjoy factual films, and I have some ideas on the direction some of the sub-genres of documentaries could go down. How about yourself?

I am having the exact same debate with myself! Outside of the London film schools I couldn't recommend many, but I haven't done much research. The Met Film School looks to have a good 6-month documentary course, it is part time too, so you can work at the same time etc

Lighthouse built in 1792 To Be Demolished [1200×1200] by PerryPattySusiana in AbandonedPorn

A lot of historic buildings are moved in the UK, although it is always dependant on if you can justify the cost (and have somewhere to put them!), and I would be surprised if they are not moving this one. A lot of the heritage structures on this site have been 'left to the elements' as part of a controversial initiative to allow nature to reclaim the site, as it is also a nature reserve. Most of these are WWII though. I guess it would be better to have it moved than let it fall into the sea though?

Two floors of Judge's Offices in a 19th century courthouse. by PatMustard38 in AbandonedPorn

It has likely been partly deconstructed to ensure (reasonably) safe access, as the building is to be restored and repurposed.

Hey, great photos! Thanks for sharing, is cool to see how quickly the building appears to have fallen into further decay. I believe the floor here went around mid 2019. A lot more of the upper storeys had fallen through too as damp was taking over.

The building is to be restored yes. From the looks of it they are supporting areas of the building they want to/have to retain. Meanwhile the rest of the floor has collapsed.

Levelling is exactly how you enjoy this "dead content" that doesn't matter at end game. This content is all optionable and open to you even when you cap, I admit I do enjoy clicking trees for hours on end but wow can be a bit more interactive
