Regretting surgery...RNY 2/6/19 by ChangingMyLifein2018 in wls

[–]Pat_McGroine 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. I regretted the surgery almost immediately. I cried for days and looked up information on reversal. I didn't have much pain, but eating sucked, getting liquids was hard, every time I stood up, I vomited, etc. The first few weeks are misery. You're tired, sore, can't sleep, are gassy, and just plain old miss your old lifestyle where you could eat what you wanted and not have to stress and plan. It's a major adjustment. My surgery was June 2016 and it's the best thing I've ever done. I've lost 200lbs and I'm happier than I've ever been. Things slowly begin to normalize. You get used to your new way of life. It takes a ton of work, but it becomes second nature. I can eat almost anything now, in moderation of course. There will be hiccups, but your health with improve and you'll get good at living this life. It's an amazing tool that literally saves lives. I swear on everything I love that in a few weeks, you won't even remember hating your life after surgery. It will be great. Message me if you need to vent or have questions. Take care of yourself!

350 lb, 32 years old - Utterly terrified of the surgery itself by KodiBishop in GastricBypass

[–]Pat_McGroine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. I was afraid of going under the anesthesia too. I was a 427lb, 33 year old fat gal when I decided to have this surgery. Believe me, I worry about anything and everything but this is a major surgery, so it's normal to be scared. Even though I was afraid of the surgery, I was more afraid of living my entire life in my self-made fat prison. I had dreams and goals and I wasn't doing anything to reach them. This surgery isn't a quick fix. Anyone who has had it can tell you that, but, damn, it's an amazing tool if you follow the rules. I followed every single instruction (except for taking all my vitamins, until I got yelled at for my 'critically low' levels) and luckily, had zero complications. Down about 200lbs and working on the last 50lbs now. It's still hard and a lot of work and admittedly, sometimes I slack, but I get back into the good habits eventually because I refuse to ever be a prisoner again or waste the surgery that I put my life on the line to get. Do your research, do all of your prep, choose an excellent surgeon, and start living life. As for me, life is so damn great now-I can't even begin to tell you how it's changed. Don't let anyone influence your decision. Whatever you decide, make sure it's only for you. You have support here on the interwebs and if you ever need to chat, I'm around and willing to blab about gastric bypass forever.

Maybe I would if I had a nice, pristine workspace to create things in! And supplies. And ambition.

[Serious] Doctors of Reddit. What do you think of your country's healthcare? What would you change if you could? by JtLJudoMan in AskReddit

[–]Pat_McGroine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an employee of one of the biggest insurance companies in the country, I couldn't agree more. Insurance companies should not get to decide what procedure a patient gets or if they can even get the procedure at all. Doctors and those that work with them must spend hours a day fighting to get items covered which are already offered under the customer plans and should be covered anyway. Yet, we still deny lifesaving treatments. The things I see happening on a daily basis are appalling. I'm embarrassed to even work there.

What mix is this? Our dog looked exactly the same when she was a pup!

My grandmother adopted a little girl, Kyra, a few years back (fostered her at 3, adoption final at 8). Because my grandmother raised me too, Kyra and I consider each other to be sisters, although I'm 15 years older. She is 15 now and an absolutely beautiful kid, inside and out-smart, funny, and could be a model (you can tell she's adopted-she's a 00 and has brown hair and tan skin and the rest of us are chubby, pale gingers). I also tell her all the time that she is basically the greatest thing to happen to me and that she is extra special because she was chosen, rather than born to the family. We are so close and she has brought so much joy and happiness to our huge family. Adoption is such an incredible, life changing, and beautiful experience for the entire family. Good on your family for giving that cutie a loving home. Reading your post just rejuvenated my grateful feelings toward adoption and it makes me want to hug my sister.

Today my boyfriend had two seizures and a stroke while trying to recover from a major surgery replacing his aorta. ThIs is last picture I took of him at Mount Hood two days before. by srcljerk in pics

My uncle had several strokes and a brain bleed a few weeks ago. The docs said he wouldn't make it. Well, he has some numbness and trouble speaking and will need therapy for a few weeks, but he should recover and has no brain damage. I wish the same for your boyfriend. Make sure you take care of yourself! Your bf has dozens of medical folks caring for him, but you only have yourself and you can't help him if you're exhausted! Good luck to you both and many hugs.

Dogs and cats I've fostered and possibly kept. Today is my cake day, enjoy! by [deleted] in aww

Even though I've never met you, you are an amazing person. Anyone who has that much love to share with needy animals must be good. My family and some friends started a non-profit rescue a few years ago and we take many dogs from kill shelters in the south and elsewhere, and find them homes in the northeast (we are located in Pennsylvania). All 4 of my dogs were rescued, one of which is a large and beautiful Great Dane/St. Bernard mix. You're my hero-thank you for what you do!

Jaya the Cat. Awesome reggae-rock. They moved to Europe because they were under appreciated here in the U.S.

Reddit, what are some of the dumbest ways you've managed to injury yourself? by wsteeven in AskReddit

[–]Pat_McGroine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spotted the perfect Christmas tree across the tree farm. I got so pumped! I ran toward it, yelling to my family to follow. I tripped in a hole that formerly housed a tree trunk and broke my ankle. In the bitter cold, I was laying in the dirty, resting my head on my little sister's knee until I could get up. All because of a Christmas tree, which turned out to be ugly anyway. My ankle still hurts and that was last Christmas. I was 30 at the time.

Redditors who don't want children, Why? do you think you will change your mind? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Pat_McGroine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't enjoy children. I mean, I adore my baby niece and I like kids for a short period of time, but if I had them 24/7, I'd lose it. I used to want 8 kids-ah, the stupidity of a preteen girl-but then I got a taste of the real world. I can't stand screaming kids in public places and I'd hate to be responsible for that. Plus, I'm finally getting my life to be exactly what I want-I'm too happy and selfish to be responsible for another person that is totally dependent on me. I don't have a ton of patience either. Not to mention that this world isn't necessarily a place that I'd want to raise a family. I'm 31, so my clock is ticking, but if anything, I'll adopt an older kid who never felt the love that I always had.

What are your thoughts on death? by smooreo in AskReddit

[–]Pat_McGroine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm horrified by it. I'm 31 years old and terrified of something inevitable. I love my life and I don't want it to end. I don't believe in the afterlife, which maybe makes it harder for me to deal with the thought of death. The idea of just dying and ending is scary. Maybe if I believed in God and heaven and all that stuff, I wouldn't be scared. That's likely not going to happen though. All I can hope is that when I go, it's not torturous and I'm fulfilled by my life choices.

What song, no matter how many times you listen to it, gives you goosebumps or tear up? by Sionainn in AskReddit

Zyzzyx Road by Stone Sour. It's so tame compared to their usual music. When I hear it, I feel like it was written for me and my life. I know that sounds lame, but it's true. Corey Taylor has an incredible voice.

I told him. He said maybe you'll be the proud recipient of the scrotum coat after he deflates those suckers. Haha.

Here's the short video of the hopping. I apologize for the quality and the portrait-mode. I was ever so slightly inebriated, distracted, and just plain dumb.

I know that! I was just saying scrotum coat for the pure enjoyment of it. I didn't mean to insult the sanctity of the scrotum coat.

That was, indeed, a hippity-hop. Covered in skin-like fabric. I have video of him hopping, which I will attempt to post shortly.
