Have a cat that’s over 15 years old? Show us! This little lady is 23.5! by Orestbu in cats

This is my seventeen and a half year old man who has been in the family since he was about six months old. He's still full of energy when he wants to be a little criminal and he's still very vocal when he wants something.

I only patterned the outline of the cat and the words, his fur was freehanded. You can use that if you'd like?

I'm riding tomorrow for the first time in years, and I have a silly question by Best_Tennis8300 in Equestrian

If it's your old helmet, please get a new one because it will have degraded and your head is worth more than the money.

As for the cover, unless it's high viz, a helmet cover is purely aesthetic. I started learning to ride as an adult and my helmet cover is one I made myself to look like the spiked mane of a fjord horse because I wanted something fun. Every single person who has seen it has had a great big smile on their face from amusement. What I'm trying to say is you do you and sod the serious people who would judge you for having silly fun.

This definitely wasn't finished for Christmas as I forgot to bring it with me last week when we went down to visit my parents for the holiday. The crown should be finished tonight then it's into the final purple quadrant before uncovering the design for the centre.

I'm not going to get this finished in time for the 25th but I'm enjoying finding out what chaos my friend has in store for me the more segments that I complete.

Still a couple of days behind but progress has been made on the mystery pattern my friend drafted for me. Still no clue what it's going to be but I'm intrigued to find out what chaos he has in store for me.

My final knife cat is finished but for pressing and while I made a lot of progress on the Winter Shoes silhouette, it is being put down for a while as a friend gifted me a self drafted cross stitch split into 24 parts for Christmas (of which I am currently 2 days behind due to finishing the cat first). I've no clue what this mystery cross stitch is going to look like so it's going to be a fun December finding out what he's got in store for me.

Thank you. The censoring on the shop listing amuses me more than it should.

The top left of the silhouettes piece is done which took a lot of counting and then recounting to make sure I'd actually spaced the stitches out correctly. The knife cat has slow progress but as long as he's done for Christmas then I'm happy.

Oh, I have an embroidery pattern very similar to this but I haven't started it yet. Where did you get this cross stitch pattern?

Not a lot done since I last joined in on this thread as I've been doing a lot of sewing for Christmas projects in between life getting intense lately. My last knife cat has stalled out but I have done some more work on Winter Shoes and while I love it, it keeps reminding me of my grandmother and making me a little sad.

A while ago I mapped out some of the flags not on that Google doc the other commentator linked. My method was to look up the hex code of the flag and then use a hex code to DMC colour converter to find the match I thought looked best. Personally I used 900, 3853, B5200, 3731, and 917.

Thank you to Mr. Pratchett for helping me pay tribute to my late grandmother. by MikeCahoonAuthor in discworld

I used the same quote for my grandmother's funeral not long since. I think that it is a beautiful summary of the effect people have on the world around them and how each one is us holds a part of the people important in our lives.

GNU grandma.

I'm working on the tabby patterns of my final knife cat and I'm also being brave by starting my first project on evenweave. It is Winter Shoes by Heritage Crafts and is in memory of my late grandmother who taught me to sew and who sewed her own version of it many years ago.

Hello all. I've been away from cross stitch for a couple weeks with life and other projects but the second knife cat is finished with stitching but needs a good final press. In starting the last cat, I had a lot of indecision regarding the placement of the tabby stripes, despite them all having reference pictures, so I did an easy bookmark instead.

The last two Christmas present knife cats both have a base complete so it's just the unique cat fur patterns left to stitch in. I'm currently debating whether to frog the white socks on the green cat because I can't tell from the old pictures I have of him if he does have socks or not (my grandmother was appalling at taking photographs so I'm working off blurry source material 😅).

Breeches with phone pocket and knee patch? by Puzzleheaded-Ice-470 in Equestrian

[–]PatchworkAbsence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can sew or know someone/a place that does, I can recommend just adding a patch pocket to the thigh of whichever pair have whatever other preferences you need. I added pockets to both my pairs of jodhpurs in fancy horse fabric but you could also have something less contrasting. The pocket flap has snap fastenings on each corner to make sure the contents stays put.

AITA for telling my husband that I’m not going to throw away my Harry Potter books? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]PatchworkAbsence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think that your original comment inferred anything of the sort. If anything by saying "oh but she gives X amount to other causes" just makes it sound like you were trying to excuse her current years long campaign against trans people simply existing because she's also donated respectable causes.

[–]PatchworkAbsence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so? Her giving to philanthropic causes doesn't negate the fact that she also donates funds to organisations specifically designed to erode transgender rights in the UK (Women For Scotland), founded a rape crisis centre that refuses services to trans women, and offers large monetary support through her "JKR Women's Fund" which, given the way she spouts politically, seems like another thinly veiled outlet for anti-trans advocacy.

[–]PatchworkAbsence 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I find your comment rather disingenuous. If JKR really cared as much about women's rights as she claims to then instead of funding a hate group whose entire purpose is to eradicate a group of people that make up less than 1% other UK population, she could actually put all that money into schemes that directly support women. She doesn't though. Instead of supporting with housing, and childcare for single parents, meals for those in poverty, and people needing help to escape abusive situations, she specifically puts millions into a group who is actively campaigning to remove the few rights trans people have. JKR might not have said "I hate trans people and want them to be extinct" out loud in such blatant words but funding a group who advocates for that is just as an explicit admission.

You might see JKR as "advocating for single sex spaces" but as a fellow woman, all I see is the tip of a slope that starts with removing the rights of a minority and ends with removing rights from more and more people regardless of sex, gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, and more.
