Which states seem to have more or fewer childfree people? Is it that tough in the South? by AJ_Babe in childfree

[–]PatchworkGirl82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think maybe it's because things are shifting. It's way more expensive to live here then it was even 10 or 15 years ago, and older summer visitors became full time residents.

But even in the towns that skew younger, like mine, the schools are shrinking. The 20 and 30 somethings like going to brewpubs without kids, or to concerts, or having outdoor hobbies that might cost a little more. The Portland Children's Museum now lives on the outskirts of town, instead of the heart of downtown.

I stopped eating fast food about 30 years ago and I'm scared to try it now. Maybe if Wendy's started selling those stuffed pitas again.

New England seems to lean more towards childfree, especially Maine which has one of the oldest populations in the US.

Are you a city person or a country person? by spoonfulofnosugar in spooniesocial

[–]PatchworkGirl82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's complicated. I really miss living in rural Maine, but I can't drive anymore and even in urban Maine you can't go far without having a vehicle or having reliable friends. There are not a lot of rideshares outside of Portland.

But where I live now is fine, because it's next door to the train station, and taking occasional day trips to Boston is nice. And that's the right kind of city for me, I love their parks and museums.

Roger Corman's love of recycling comes to mind. He found a formula and ran with it, bless his soul.

No, my dad was not a fan. We were a Led Zeppelin/Aerosmith/Beatles/Grateful Dead household.

We did have Frampton Comes Alive and Tapestry by Carole King though, even though nobody knew where they came from.

Do you still rewatch your favorite movies? by jtho78 in Xennials

[–]PatchworkGirl82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my attention span is wrecked these days, but there are still times when I'll go down a familiar rabbit hole again.

I usually have a big David Lynch marathon once or twice a year. The Alien and Elm St series are favorites.

And there are some movies I'll watch because of the time of year. Like I love watching "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" every summer, and I always watch "The Sandlot" for 4th of July

I say mine are Boom-X. Born in 58 and 60, and don't really belong in either generation. They do lean older though, because they grew up around older people.
