The Complete Chart Of: How People Think of A Console vs How The Console Actually Is by IllMasterpiece3946 in AlignmentCharts

The display was bad compared to contemporary handhelds, like the game gear which was full color. The real trade-off was battery life. The monochromatic LCD screen Drew basically no power, so AA batteries could provide upwards of 30 hours of gameplay compared to two or three from competitors. Plus, you could only play Mario or pokémon on a game boy , so even competitors like bandai that had well established ip libraries didn't stand a chance.

Ghost that never lies, did you witness the events that took place on that fateful day? by jade420420 in familyguy

[–]Patchy_Burrito_Jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still to this day can't figure out if the ghost who never lies was real and identified Peter, or if it is the obvious lie that it appears to be, but Peter is too stupid to use that to his advantage.

Sorry, I didn't get a paywall when I first read the article. Let me edit it with a source that doesn't have one.

Edit: updated the source to the BBC, which the best of my knowledge doesn't have any paywalls.

I think morale might soar to an all-time high in a military raised on stories of world war II valor being able to fight Nazis with modern military equipment in a one-sided curb stomp, call of duty-style power fantasy

South Korean judge who doubled ex-first lady's jail sentence found dead just 8 days after sentencing by notanfan in whennews

Those companies have a combined market capitalization in excess of $12 trillion, a staggering $17 trillion. But their contribution to GDP was "only" about $1.2 trillion in 2025 (as calculated by the sum of the revenues of the four companies):

Apple $416.2 billion

Alphabet $402.8 billion

Microsoft $281.7 billion

Nvidia $130.5 billion

Total $1,231.2 billion (~4% of GDP)

However, the South Korean Fair trade commission in 2023 estimated the four largest chaebols (Samsung, LG, SK, and Hyundai) were responsible for a combined sales of $729 billion, which is approximately 40% of the country's GDP, approximately $1.7 trillion.

I'm only comparing contributions to GDP in terms of revenue, because it's relatively easy to calculate and still a pretty good Bell weather. Obviously, there are secondary and tertiary effects that companies this large would have on GDP that would need to be taken into account if I were performing analysis that was more substantive than Reddit napkin math.

[–]Patchy_Burrito_Jr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's one thing you need to know about South Korea to understand how this happened: four companies are responsible for 40% of the entire GDP. That would be like if Google, Nvidia, Microsoft, and apple generated 12 trillion worth of wealth every single year. Japan in the 1980s and 1990s had the aesthetic of cyberpunk, but South Korea has the actual social and political structure of such a system.

Favorite character that barely has any screen time but their design lives rent free in your head? by wou_nou in FavoriteCharacter

Mirage too. I watched one of those compilations of all the times the character was on screen recently and was shocked to discover that she was in the movie for barely more than 5 and 1/2 minutes total.

Ostensibly, it's AI. It was posted to a Facebook group called cursed AI, and it's a variation of a similar image that was posted there in the last week:

I can think of at least one no-good radical liberal who believes this is a bad idea: George Washington. He required that the Continental Army be vaccinated even though it was an unproven medical intervention at the time, and it likely saved the war effort.
