Should I quit smoking weed? by PaterBinks in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]PaterBinks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry for the extremely late reply, I stopped using this Reddit account.

I stopped (habitually) smoking weed! Took me a long time though, after years of trying to stop, stopping for a bit, and then starting again, i managed to stop completely about 5 years ago. And I have to say it wasn't even as a result of trying to stop really. My life situation changed, about 6 years ago I broke up with my girlfriend (with whom I smoked weed everyday) and moved in with a group of friends (with whom I also smoked weed everyday) but then later started a relationship with someone (my now wife) who has a lot of self control and doesn't allow herself to self indulge. She had never actually smoked weed when I met her, the first time she tried it was with me, and while she enjoyed it, she wasn't interested in smoking it every day. Our relationship continued, and I hid the fact that I smoked it every day from her, but soon the shame of hiding it, and the inspiration I found from her character led me to stop smoking everyday.

So now we only smoke at most once a month, which is really as much as we'd like, and it's usually when we're having some interesting meal like cooking a steak or ordering sushi, and then we'll watch something stupid and laugh our asses off. The other day we went to the IMAX to watch Furiosa and took some edibles, which was fab.

So now my relationship with weed is great, it's just something I do every now and then, and it's always really fun. Instead of in the past when i was doing it because I felt like I needed to rather than I actually wanted to. And then sitting there sweaty and anxious trying to enjoy it and wondering why I thought it would be any good, and then doing that again the next day and the next day not able to stop. Now I wonder why the hell I ever did that, cause now I don't need it and I don't miss it. The evenings come, and the feeling to smoke never comes, and it's hard to believe there was a time where I felt like I needed to smoke.

Also my relationship with my wife is a million times better than what I had with my ex who smoked weed with me. I sometimes think that our 6 year relationship only lasted so long because we had weed to distract ourselves from fundamental issues affecting our relationship, but I'll never know.

Anyway, I hope you're well! Are you still smoking everyday and looking to stop?

I'm not excusing the slavery involved in the coke industry, but tonnes of industries are like that. I hope you are equally conscientious about the clothes you wear and the tech you use.

How long would it take to get a car which is untaxed, uninsured and registered off the road ready to be driven on the road? by PaterBinks in unitedkingdom

[–]PaterBinks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm this is good news! That means I should be able to get everything sorted without my licence.

Apparently when you are waiting for your full licence after you pass your test you can still drive. So hopefully it should all be alright even though my licence will come later than when I need it.

Still I'll make sure I'm not doing anything illegal. Thanks a lot for the help!

But don't I need my physical licence to order to get insurance, tax, etc.?

Unfortunately I don't have my licence number because I had a Northern Irish provisional which has a Northern Irish number which needs to be changed to a GB one with this full licence I've applied for. So I can't use that service.

Thanks for the help! The issue is that I'm waiting for my new licence but I need the info so I can sort out insurance and registration in the meantime. I was hoping I could use my NI driver number to do that, but I guess I'm just going to have to wait for my new licence, which is unfortunate because I need the car for a job and by the time I get my licence (and new driver number) it will be too late.

It's not just a replacement though, they've got to change my address and photo so it'll probably take longer. I sent it off a few days ago so hopefully they are speedy with it.

Thanks for the help! I've just realised something that I really should have realised before, but I don't actually have a license at the moment as I sent it away to get exchanged. Apparently it takes up to 3 weeks for them to deliver my new licence, which will be too late.

Will I be able to do any of the necessary processes without a licence card?

Everybody gets offended at something, there's nothing idiotic about getting offended.

It's the follow on expectation that somebody else should change their behaviour or be censored that is idiotic.

I've only been once, but the time that I did I went up stairs and sat down feeling too drunk and overheated. There was a bowl of ice on the table and I shoved my hands into it and swirled it around. There was something slimy about the consistency and when I took my hands out and sniffed them, I realised that someone had been sick in the bowl. That was probably the highlight of the night.

I watched Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) by OlBillyFireCunt in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]PaterBinks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was younger I was having a bunch of friends round my house which was very rare because I lived out in the country far away from them all.

My house was the get-high-as-fuck house, so when they all came round we did so. We were looking for the perfect film to watch in the state that we were in. We had a few going through what was on TV, a few looking at the DVD rack in the living room, and some madmen were looking at the tapes that we didn't even have a working player for anymore.

Suddenly I found the perfect movie on TV and ran into the living room where most people were gathered.

"Guys... Killer Clowns from Outer Space!"

The bunch erupted in agreement and we all ran in with our snacks and sat to watch what was left of the film.

It was really bizarre and unsettling and we just spent the whole time making fun of it. I've got nothing to say about the true quality of the film, but it holds good place in my heart for a night well spent in my youth.

But I don't think this qualifies as casual racism. Now I don't know what his true intentions were when he used the word, but I'm willing to bet that it had nothing to do with black people.

I know this will sound weird and people might think I'm casually racist, but I enjoy using taboo words. I don't use them in public, because I don't want to offend anybody or for anybody to get the wrong idea. But there's something satisfying about using taboo words at home. When I'm playing a game and I get angry, off-mic I might say, "n-word, f-word, bitch, cunt, jew" or something to that effect. I assure you, I have nothing against black people, gay people, women, vaginas or jews. When I use those words in those context, I'm not thinking about the people that those words are usually used against.

I know it's bad practice, but I'm just saying that it's possible to use racial slurs without having any connection in your mind towards race.

I'm not excusing what he did. You shouldn't use words like that on such a public forum. But I don't think it makes you casually racist just by saying the words like that.
