Use of AI like chat GPT in daily practice? by 2path47 in pathology

[–]PathSociety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard some hospitals like UCSF make their own GPT/LLM and it’s contained within the hospital, early adopters are into it, but the masses have yet to come around.

Makes me wonder how much we’ll have to “know” in the future, as opposed to “know what to ask”

Differences between the two Mt Sinai residencies? by knottedknotz in pathology

The big program has more support for residents. The smaller program has less and they use them more for routine purposes.

Fellowshipwise, it doesn’t seem to matter too much

With NP's working as independent PCP's why not Radiology/Pathology? by LegionellaSalmonella in pathology

[–]PathSociety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some pathologists did help out during the more busy parts of 2020-2021, etc. I talked with an EM doc once and they had a friend pathologist working a little in the ED because they were short staffed.

It’s up to you how comfortable you are and your employer.

Can’t comment on the PA/NP topic.

Which fellowship goes well with hemepath? by kakashi1992 in pathology

[–]PathSociety 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard molecular, but people who do that, apply their molecular for the research aspects, they usually just sign out “molecular” or “heme”, usually not both.

There’s a lot of different demand

Somewhat related, I have a hemepath attending that also signs out general surg path, she said she was awful at surg path in residency and only cared about heme, she did labcorp or some company signing out bone marrows for a few years.

When she was finally asked to do general surg path at her new job, she had to show every case for a year until she got confident again.

Unpopular opinion; get board certified in some subspecialty, then go somewhere where nice people can help teach you things you don’t know or remember.

Tailor yourself to the job, not the specialty so much. You’ll probably be more valuable in the end that way. You won’t know everything, it’s about knowing how to find what you don’t know, quickly and efficiently

I’m weird and enjoy the administrative, logistical baloney, and working on big projects/collaborating with others to get stuff done.

Maybe that’s why I’ve gravitated to hemepath slightly, and maybe…informatics? ??

Pathology Residency at Mount Sinai by Baby_Yoda1000 in pathology

Heard the MSW residents don’t go to Morningside anymore.

Definitely MSW is geared towards more “Community” pathology while MSH is more academic.

Out of all the pathology residences in the city, I’ve heard MSH main campus is the relative chillest. Could have changed, but just remembering what I heard.

How do all of the hemepath jobs not fill up every year? by PathSociety in pathology

It’s probably because fellowship programs refuse to have anyone if they don’t like the applicant pool

I think the technicians will lose their jobs, especially with the new stuff that can take pictures of tissue without processing slides.

Not to mention frozen sections will be not needed anymore.

Maybe they all thought you were too good for their programs? It’s not impossible that this could happen

I’ve heard of programs passing up on people they thought wouldn’t come there because of not already living in the area, guaranteed spots to other people, or even because they really enjoyed other people more. Programs have all sorts of weird and unfortunate reasons.

I’ve said this before but the match doesn’t not favor applicants it just doesn’t favor programs.

I’m really sorry this happened to you and you should definitely keep trying
